Five Little Ducks and Curious Little Rat-Rat
A rhyming story for kids
Down by a pond where the tall grasses grow
Lived five little ducks who moved in a row
They splashed in the water, they waddled on land
With Mama Duck guiding her wings in command
They played every day in the sunshine so bright
Flapping and quacking from morning to night
But not far away by a small flower pot
Lived a curious rat in a cozy warm spot
He wasn't a pest or a grump or a sneak
He just liked to giggle and play hide-and-seek
With tiny pink paws and a soft furry back
He watched those five ducklings go quackity-quack
One sunny morning the ducklings all cheered
Let's go exploring, there's nothing to fear
They waddled off laughing without looking back
While Mama Duck called them with a worried quack
But only four little ducks came home that day
The smallest had wandered and strayed far away
He'd followed a butterfly over a hill
Then paused by a mushroom and sat very still
The rat saw the duckling and gave a small cheer
Let's play hide-and-seek, you stay right here
The duckling just giggled and joined in the fun
While Mama Duck searched in me every sun
The next day four ducklings went out to explore
But after their games there were only three more
One had gone missing, just vanished from view
While chasing a frog through the flowers and dew
And guess who was hiding behind a big hat
The giggly, mischievous, whiskery rat
He showed the duckling a tunnel of sticks
Where they danced and they balanced on the long leafy bricks
Each day they went out, and each day they lost
Another small duckling to fun at a cost
Two went up, then one, then none at all
Till Mama Duck cried with a loud worried call
No little ducks by the reeds or the rocks
No tiny wet footprints, no splashes, no flocks
She waddled and flapped and looked all around
But not one little duckling was to be found
Just then from the bushes came squeaks and a cheer
And out popped the rat with his ears up like deer
Behind him came waddling one, two, three, four
Then the fifth duckling who'd wandered before
We were playing, they laughed, we weren't lost or stuck
We made a new friend, a kind little rat named Rock
Mama Duck smiled, her wings full of hugs
She kissed all her ducklings and gave little tugs
Now every day by the soft lily mat
Five little ducks play with one clever rat
They cuddle and giggle, they splash and they squeak
And play hide and seek at least once every week
So if you hear quacks and a squeaky hooray
You'll know where the ducks and the rat go to play
