Hi friends, it's me, Silly Miss Lily,
and I'm so excited to play with you today
because today we're gonna be playing with drums.
Drums are so cool, and there's many different parts.
You wanna take a look with me?
Let's see, there's this one on the floor,
and I use my foot to kick it,
and it's called a kick drum.
As I step on the pedal, it makes that sound.
The kick drum, yay!
Whoa, we have these ones over here called tom-tom.
This one's on the floor, so it's called a floor tom-tom.
And this one right here,
that's the one that makes that marching sound,
that's the snare drum.
On the bottom are little snares hooked up,
creating that little vibration marching sound.
Whoa, this one over here.
Whoa, these are different cymbals.
This one's called the ride cymbal.
Because you can use it for the rhythm,
you kind of ride it along as you're drumming.
These are called the crash cymbals.
Whoa!
This one's over here, it's called the hi-hat.
And when we drum them together at different times,
we can create a rhythm, and drums are so important
for musicians or a band.
As the drummer keeps drumming,
they can keep the beat,
helping the other musicians stay along
and keep the rhythm together.
Isn't that cool?
I'm just learning my drum,
so I'm learning how to do the beat.
So let's see if we can do it together.
I'm using the kick drum, with my foot.
Four, one, two, three, four.
One, two, three, four.
So do this for a little practice.
Okay.
And then, once you get familiar with that,
you sit on the throne here.
This is the throne.
Remember, it's not a real throne,
it's called the throne.
Oh, okay.
So you go.
Whoa!
Wow, there's so many moving parts,
but it's so exciting to learn.
And you know what?
Let's make our own drums together.
Come on!
Now let's make some of our own drums.
And you can make drums at home,
and all you need is a can,
and then some construction colored paper
you can put on top.
You can make them one color.
You can use double colors.
You can do any color you want.
You can do colored paper.
You can paint them.
You can use markers.
You can use glue.
Let's see, I have some glue sticks.
What else we've got?
Cotton.
Oh, I wanna see.
I have some stickers.
Oh, I even have jewels.
So you can make it a sparkly, shiny drum.
Cotton, look at this.
I even have a picture of you.
Whoa, I love my own drum.
Hey, how about this?
We can put you on,
have a little cotton drum.
We can even glue on some pom poms
and make it really fun.
You wanna do it together?
Come on!
And for your drums,
you can use something like spatulas
or little chopsticks or straws
to drum along.
Yay!
Do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
Hey!
Let's use some glue
for our buddy, Cotton.
Wow, I love it!
Let's see, we'll add some stickers.
I have a cute octopus
and a turtle,
a snail and a monkey.
Let's add those.
And a little snail here.
Hello!
Yay!
That's it!
First, we're gonna decorate some drums.
You can pick this pink and purple one
or blue one.
And there's stickers, jewels, markers, paint.
Cotton was working on this one.
Cotton, how is it going?
Hello!
Hey, Cotton.
Hey, what's going on, Pepe?
I'm making one.
Are you really?
I'm excited to see what you all come up with.
You want me to get you a few more stickers?
Yes.
Yeah, I'll be right back.
Cotton, you wanna stay here with Pepe?
Sweet!
I'll do, all right,
I'll glue the back of the picture.
Then I'm sticking, look.
That's perfect.
Then, I'm doing two.
Put all of the cotton at the back.
Put it all the way at the back.
Then I'm making a stitch.
Cotton, Cotton, Cotton.
Hey, what's going on?
I have this fresh.
Oh, we're going this way.
What's in it?
Pop on there.
I'll put some, I'll put a zebra on mine.
Very cute.
Mine will be so cute.
I got a little pink.
That's gonna be cute.
Mommy and Cotton will work on the same one.
And me.
Okay.
And I will work on my own.
That's on Skye.
There's a little otter and a little bear
that are kind of peeled for you.
Would you go to the whale and stuff?
Yeah.
Cotton, do you remember this room?
I love this room.
I love playing in it.
I was learning earlier.
I was doing bunny school.
That's gonna be so cute on there.
Okay.
Two pups.
Drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
Drum on the floor.
Drum, drum, drum.
That's great.
What do you think of our drums?
Great.
I love them.
Yay!
You wanna do some more learning
that Cotton was doing?
Yeah.
For bunny school?
Wow, I love this drum so much.
Drum, drum, drum, drum.
Yay, Cotton, I'm so happy.
You know what?
Let's learn how to write and read the word drum.
I have it right here.
Let's look at the letters together.
I have D, R, U, and M.
D-R-U-M.
Let's write it together, all right?
Let's see.
So first letter, D, will go.
Hello, marker.
For the D, we'll go around
and then bring our line down.
D-R, we'll do a line down
and then a little curve.
For U, let's bring it down and around
and a line down.
And M, we'll do a line down
and a hump over and a hump over,
making it an M.
D-R-U-M.
Drum, drum, drum, whoa.
Okay, so around first and then a line down.
Yes.
Okay, then what about the letter R?
Nice.
Okay, what about the U?
Is it around and around and then a line down?
And then M is like a line down
and then around and around.
You know what's kind of silly?
That these first two letters in the front, D-R,
together they make a letter blend
that almost has a j sound to it.
Drum, drum, when we say it fast.
So the letters are D-R-U-M,
but when you read it fast, it goes drum.
Let's think of some more words
that begin with the letter blend D-R.
D-R-D-R, drum.
Drum, drum, drum.
D-R-D-R, drink.
Drink, when we drink something.
D-R-D-R, dragonfly.
Can you buzz around like a dragonfly?
Bzz, dragonfly.
D-R-D-R, dragonfly.
Let's think of some more D-R words together.
Let's see what pops up.
Ooh, drink.
Drink, when we drink something.
D-R-D-R, drink.
Let's see another word.
Drive.
Let's come up with a fun movement for drive.
How about like we're holding a steering wheel?
Drive, drive, drive.
Can you hold the steering wheel with me?
Beep, beep.
Drive, drive, drive.
Yay, let's look at some more D-R words.
Ooh, draw.
What about drawing?
Oh, I love arts and crafts
and drawing a beautiful picture, a beautiful card.
Draw, draw, yay.
Let's see what other D-R words.
Oh, beautiful dress.
Dress, dress, dress.
Beautiful.
Ooh, what about dream?
Dream, like when you lay down for a good snooze.
Shoo, shoo, dream.
Can you pretend to dream with me?
Dream, dream, dream.
Yeah, dream is another great D-R, D-R word.
Dream.
Let's see what else we've got.
Oh look, a dragonfly.
Can you get your wings out like a dragonfly?
Psst, they fly so fast.
Dragonfly, dragonfly.
Great job.
Let's see another D-R, D-R word.
Ooh, dragon.
Dragon, they like to breathe their fire like this.
Rawr, rawr.
You wanna breathe like a dragon with me?
Rawr, dragon, rawr.
Good one.
Oh, how about the word drop?
Drop, like when the rain starts to drip, drop, drip, drop.
Actually, both drip and drop.
Start with a D and the D-R.
Drop, drip, drip, drop, drip, drop.
Let's make some rain together.
Get your fingers out, ready?
Drip, drop, drip, drop, drip, drip, drop.
Great job.
Let's look at some more D-R words.
Oh, we already know this word, right?
Can you help me read it?
Drum.
Yay, great reading.
Drum, drum, wonderful job.
There's so many great D-R, D-R words.
Thanks for reading with me.
And you know how we like to learn counting
like one, two, three, and four?
That becomes super important in music and drumming
as you count out the rhythm of the notes.
So a whole note would be drumming once,
but counting to four.
So one, two, three, four.
One, two, three, four.
Now, if you wanna do a half note,
one, two, three, four.
One, two, three, four.
And if you want to divide it into quarters,
it would be one, two, three, four.
One, two, three, four.
Drumming four times, right?
Because in quarters, there's four parts.
So we're counting each one.
And then in eighths, we would double it up
and we would have to drum eight times in a full beat.
So it'd be one, and two, and three, and four,
and one, and two, and three, and four, and.
Wow, let's see if we can try it on the drum.
So one would be one, two, three, four.
This would be a whole note, right?
One, two, three, four.
Half would be doing it twice in the four count.
So one, two, three, four.
One, two, three, four.
And then a quarter would be one, two, three, four.
One, two, three, four.
Then eighths, we get really fast
because we'll have to hit it eight times
in the one, four count.
So one, and two, and three, and four,
and one, and two, and three, and four,
and one and two and three and four.
Wow!
So if you're really good at counting at four,
I bet you'd be a really great drummer.
Let's do some fun drumming together.
Now that we have our drum.
Can you drum with me?
Drum, drum, drum.
Can you drum again?
Drum, drum, drum.
Can you drum to three?
One, two, three.
Can you drum to four?
One, two, three, four.
Wow!
Okay, can you drum really fast?
Drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
Can you drum really slow?
Drum, drum, drum, drum.
Can you drum on your head?
Drum, drum, drum.
Can you drum on again?
Drum, drum, drum.
Should we drum again?
Drum, drum, drum.
Can you drum with me?
Drum, drum, drum.
You did a great job.
Drum, drum, drum.
Thanks for drumming with me.
Drum, drum, drum, yay, great job, I love it.
Can you drum with me?
Drum, drum, drum, can you drum again?
Drum, drum, drum, I love to drum.
Drum, drum, drum, let's drum again.
Drum, drum, drum, yay, great job, Cotton.
Hey, silly Miss Lily, what's going on, Cotton?
Sometimes I get confused with the letters D and B.
They look so similar, what's the difference?
Oh, what a great question.
Let's take a look together at some letters
and we'll find out the difference
between the letter D and B.
Are you talking about their little letters?
Yeah, they look so similar.
They really do, so let's take a look at them together.
Come on.
When we look at the little letters,
we have Mama, Papa Bear, big letters, D and B, right?
But the little D and little B look so similar.
And here's a little fun way that I like to remember them
that helps me think, okay, is this D or is this D?
I'd love to show it to you.
So let's see, for a letter D, let's draw a big letter D.
We'll do a line down and a line around.
And for the little letter D, I like to think of it as,
cause letter D is the first letter
in the word door and doorknob.
And before you open the door, what do you need to find?
A doorknob, right?
So this is a little doorknob that goes around
and then the beginning of the door, right?
Similarly, the letter D, you can remember,
it's the little doorknob first and then the door.
So D for doorknob, D for door.
Now how about letter B, right?
For a big one, it's line down and then around and around.
And then for the little letter B, I like to think of it as,
first, we need a baseball bat, right?
So that's the line and then the baseball.
And so here, right, we need the baseball bat first,
that's the line, and then the B for baseball,
B for baseball bat and B for baseball, right?
And so for little D, doorknob first, then the door.
For a letter B, it's the baseball bat first,
then the baseball.
Isn't that interesting?
Another fun way to remember it is the word bed.
The word bed has both the letter B and D in it.
And if you think about the way we write it,
it'd be first the letter B, then E,
and then the letter D, right?
And if you were to draw a line right here,
that would look like our bed.
So first the B, the E, and then the D,
making it a bed, starting with the first line
and then ending with the D line.
Isn't that cool?
Another fun way to remember it
is the way we pronounce letters B and D.
Because when we say B, B, B,
we first start out with our mouth closed.
B has a line, B.
So the line goes first in B, B.
When we say the letter D, D, D, our mouth is open.
And so we have to have the open circle first, D,
open then the line, B, B, line, B.
Then we draw it.
Wow, that's so cool, yeah.
So now we have D and B.
And you know what?
Why don't we practice writing letter D together
since we're talking about the drums
so we can get used to it.
Let's do it together, come on.
The doorknob around and then the line.
So D for doorknob, D for door.
And B is first baseball bat, then the ball.
And then you can outline it here as the doorknob.
So first the doorknob, then the door.
Okay, will you teach me?
Yes, I'll teach you the difference between B and D.
Sometimes I like to explain it to D has a leg like a diaper.
Oh, whoa, okay, I like that.
And then B has a belly.
Ah, I see that here now, B with a belly.
And then see, also D has a little D for doorknob,
D for baseball bat too.
Wow, let's practice our letter D together
and all of the printable I'll have available for you
in the description so you can print them
and play along at home and practice your writing, okay?
So for the letter D, let's see,
for big papa letter D, right?
Big mom and papa letter D, we're gonna do line down
and then all the way from the top,
bring it all the way around to the bottom.
Let's do it again together.
Line down from the top to the bottom.
Line down from the top all the way around to the bottom.
From the top, we make a line.
And then we go all the way from the top,
around, around, around, around, around.
Yay, yay, look at this great letter D.
Now, do you remember how we write the little letter D?
Yeah, let's think of our doorknob, right?
We have first is the doorknob, then is the door.
First we have a doorknob, then we have the door.
First is the doorknob, then we have a door.
Another kind of silly fun way to remember it is
when we say our alphabet, right?
It goes A, B, C, and D.
So C goes right before the D.
And to write our letter D,
you would write the letter C almost first, right?
And then you would complete it with the D.
Or you can think of it as the doorknob and the door.
Look at this great writing.
Thank you for writing with me.
Now let's play a really fun game.
And all you need is some colored paper
and you can tape it to the floor with some painter's tape.
And we're gonna need the colors red, blue, yellow,
and purple, and let's look up there.
Whichever color comes up,
that's the one we'll jump to, all right?
So if it's a red, we'll jump on red.
When it's blue, we'll jump on blue.
When it's purple, we'll jump to purple.
And when it's yellow, we'll hop on over to yellow.
And you know what?
Since we're learning so many different D words,
how about we'll do drum, drive, dragonfly, and dream.
Let's think of some fun moves we can do to it.
So how about for drum, we'll go drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
So when we jump on the red, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
On the blue, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive.
On the purple, dragonfly, dragonfly, fly, fly, fly,
like a dragonfly.
And on the yellow, we'll go like this, dream, dream,
dream, dream.
So it's gonna be a hop and dance,
and I'll face this way
and we'll look at the colors together, are you ready?
Okay, let's see which colors first.
Oh, jump on the red, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum,
drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
Blue, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive,
drive, drive, drive, drive, drive.
Purple, dragonfly, dragonfly, dragon, dragonfly.
Yellow, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream,
dream, dream, dream, dream, dream.
Yay, let's keep going.
You ready?
Let's see what colors we have.
Drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum,
drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum,
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream.
Drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive,
woo!
Drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
Drag and slide, drag and slide, drag and drag and slide.
Drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive.
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream.
Whoa! Drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
Dragonfly, dragonfly, dragon, dragonfly.
Drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive.
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream.
Whoa, so many great drrr words, yay!
Thanks for hopping around with me.
Here's another activity you can print and play at home.
And here we're gonna go through these words
and circle all the words that begin
with that letter blend drrr at the beginning, okay?
So let's do it together.
We'll listen, and if you hear it or you can read it,
we'll circle that word, okay?
Let's do it together.
We have first word, drum, drum.
Yeah, that's got that D-R in it, right?
Drr, drum.
Let's circle the whole word, great job.
What about dance, dance?
Right, no D-R on that one.
All right, let's keep going.
What about dress, dress?
Yeah, that's got the D-R in it for sure, for sure.
Right, let's circle it.
Dress, all right, what about this word?
Oh, we already did dance.
Okay, what about the word dog, dog?
Does that have a D-R in it?
No, that's right, it doesn't.
Good job, Khan, we won't even circle it.
What about the word dragon, dragon?
Yeah, it's got the D-R in it, dragon.
Let's circle it.
Okay, what about the word drive, drive?
Yeah, you're right, D-R, drive, drive.
All right, what about the word dig, dig?
Nope, no D-R in it, we won't circle that one.
What about the word drop, drop?
Yeah, here's the D-R, drr, up, drop.
We'll circle it.
Okay, what about the word doll, doll?
D-O, no D-R, we'll keep going.
What about the word dream, dream?
Yeah, you got a D-R in it, drr, we'll circle it.
What about this word drink, drink?
Yeah, drr, you heard that in the beginning, drr, drr, drink.
That's the D-R letter blend, drr, drr.
Hey, great job, we found all of the words
that begin with the letter blend D-R, drr, drr,
drink, dream, drop, drum, dress, drive,
dragon, dragonfly.
Great job, thank you so much for learning with me.
Yay!
You wanna do another fun one?
Yeah, this one.
Okay, this one we need to find
and circle all the words that start with a D-R,
like drum, shh, shh, and then you can circle them.
Correct.
All right, tell me, what word is that?
Dress.
Dress, all right, let's find another word.
Drive.
Drive, good word, okay, let's find another one.
What word's that?
Drink.
Wow, drop.
Drum.
The bottom one, you can step on.
Well, how are you doing that?
See the little foot.
Let me peek at there, here I come.
Step.
Here comes Clawden.
Foot.
Oh, wow.
Okay, so when you step on it.
D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R.
D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R, D-R.
Wow, we've done such a great job
learning all the drr sound words.
Why don't we read a book together about Drake the Dragon?
Let's jump in the book and read it together.
Come on.
Boom, wow, now we're in a book.
Let's read this book together and then when you see a word
that starts with that drr sound,
we'll point it out and we'll circle it together, all right?
Come on, let's see what this first page says.
Drake the Dragon wakes up.
Wow, hi, Drake the Dragon.
Drake had a dream.
Wow, did you hear any drr sounds in there?
Yeah, let's go through and circle them together.
You ready?
Drake, yeah, that's a D-R word.
Let's circle it.
Circle Drake the Dragon.
Good one, another D-R word.
Dragon wakes up.
It says Drake.
Yeah, let's circle it again.
Had a dream, another one, yay.
Let's see what happens on the next page.
Come on, wow, this says Drake takes a drink.
Slurp, slurp, wow, he's slurping it away.
Let's look and find D-R words, ready?
Drake, that's one, let's circle it, takes a drink.
Drink is another one, let's circle it.
He said slurp, slurp, slurp, slurp, little thirsty dragon.
Let's see what happens on the next page, come on.
Wow, look at this, this says Drake drives his car.
Vroom, vroom, let's find some D-R, drr words.
Drake, good one, drives, yeah, that's right, drives.
We've got two D-R words in this one.
Drake drives his car, vroom, vroom.
Great job driving, Drake.
I'm sure he was made sure to buckle up, right?
It's so important to buckle up before we drive.
Let's see what happens on the next page, come on.
Let's read this together.
This says Drake plays his drum, drum, drum.
He's drawing on a drum, drum.
Wow, let's find all the D-R words hiding on this page,
ready, Drake, yeah, good one, plays his drum.
Yeah, drum's another one, let's circle it.
Then he said drum, drum, wow, two more, drum, drum.
So many great D-R words on this page.
Let's see what happens on the next page, come on.
Oh, look, this says Drake sees a dragonfly, oh, zoom, zoom.
Wow, he's really so excited to see that dragonfly
and maybe they're gonna fly around together.
Let's find all the drr words on this page.
All right, I see Drake, we'll circle that one.
Sees a dragonfly, that's another one,
we'll circle that one too, great, fine, good job.
Let's see what happens on the next page, come on.
Oh, look, let's read some words together.
This says Drake picks up a drill, whoa, bzz, bzz.
Maybe he's gonna do some work
and build something with his drill.
Drill, let's circle all the D-R words.
We got Drake picks up a drill.
Drill is another one, great, can you pretend to hold a drill?
Let's go bzz, bzz, look, we're about to drill something,
bzz, bzz, good job, let's see what happens on the next page.
Okay, let's see what this says.
Drake is tired, whoa, he's probably worked so hard today.
Let's see what this one says.
Drake goes to sleep, okay, Drake, you have a good nap.
The next page, because Drake is sleeping,
let's read this together, it says Drake dreams of drums.
Wow, and the next line says Drake dreams of dragonflies.
Whoa, let's see if we can circle
all of the D-R words together, let's look.
Drake, yeah, dreams, good one, of drums.
Let's circle it, yay, and then what about the next line?
Drake, yeah, dreams of dragonflies.
So many D-R words on this one, whoa.
And that's the end of this book.
Let's tiptoe out really quiet, shh,
so we don't wake up Drake the dragon.
Do you know how to be quiet, yeah, shh, let's tiptoe.
Wow, great job learning all the D-R sounds today.
Let's give ourself a big drum roll, drrr, whoa.
Now you're all drrr experts, great job, drrr.
One, two, three, four.
Wow, this was so much fun.
Thank you so much for learning with me
and spending your time with me.
I love playing with you and I'm really proud of you.
