48 hours in Santiago de Compostela SPAIN

For the next three nights we'll be staying in Santiago de Compostela and the Alba Avenida. And we are quite happy with this lovely little room because it is not that little. That could be interesting. Okay that's never a good thing when Katie says interesting. Yeah, but it's not too bad. Ah, we'll be fine. But look at this view. Desk, closet, a really beautiful view. And then like the last sweat box we were in, an air conditioner. We're gonna get showered because... Hold on, you are right on your face and it's We're gonna get showered because we stink like the Camino. We begin to explore Santiago de Compostela. We gotta hit the cafe. Hoops Donuts. Oh, it's a good donut. This is Dulce Cafe. Recommended by our hotel right next door and that was a good recommendation. This is just stunning. That is also stunning because that is all the line to get in there. I'll take a rain check. I'll take a rain check. Early the next morning. It's a rainy day so we came back to Dulce Cafe. The coffee here was amazing and we heard the breakfast was really good too. That is the scrambled eggs with jamon serrano. Those are perfect. We're gonna go out and get a little bit of a tour of these beautiful cities on today. See how far we get. Tomorrow's supposed to be really rainy. Most of the stuff we want to see today I think is inside anyways. This town is super charming. I agree with you 100% on that. Well yesterday the line to get into the cathedral was all the way down here into the courtyard so it's like it's a little shorter today thankfully. I think he's just seeing the wrong direction. Wow. All right Katie has a point. It's like three blocks over now. What do you think? That seems like a long line. We're gonna see how long it takes us to go from here to the corner. This line is vicious stupid. The line's moving pretty quickly and it's getting longer by the minute. It already wraps around the quarterback behind us up there so say you know what um just go. It's not gonna get better and it continues. The line moves really fast. It's only been 10 minutes and we've covered half. Yeah and that line was a couple blocks long. It goes fast until that happens. And until a tour group like that one cuts in front of everybody. And they close during mass and there's a mass started at noon so oh well it'll be a bit. You might want to plan your trip around those mass times where it greatly increases your line standing time. All right we should be able to get in here shortly. Mass is out. They're getting ready to rock and roll. We just had a great conversation with a family from Mexico. Everybody's coming in with backpacks even though it says no backpacks. So unless you have just an absolutely giant one you don't have to worry. We can still smell the incense from the mass that just ended. I love that smell. This is beautiful. Oh my goodness. For impressive cathedrals we've been in. We've been in quite a few cathedrals. This place is ancient and gorgeous. All of a sudden it's sunny not rainy. The cathedral was absolutely beautiful. It's one of the most ornate that I've ever seen. It's pretty special. The line was worth it. We just stood around. It was fun. Yeah we got to meet some nice people from Mexico. Had a great chat with the family from Mexico. That was fun. And uh now we're off to look for ice cream and see whatever else we can find around here. Yeah. Now we're just randomly exploring the city. Our favorite part. Katie hurt her knee. It's a little crowded. A couple blocks that way. Not the case. Of course everything's closed here too so. I can't help but think. I'm Arthur king of the Britons. Whose castle is that? And somewhere along the way we tripped and fell into ice cream. And coffee. Snickers. So what about dinner? My best buddy left said he wanted to take us out to a nice dinner. Reputation of the Camino. So we are coming to Panzava. They have the best steak ratings they've found in town. But they're also missionalistic. So let's get this in the shot. I can't wait to see the menu. You've already looked at the menu. We know you better than that. Yeah but it was very confusing. So the meats come by kilo. You get to choose the veal, beef, ox, or lamb. And we chose beef. And we chose uh one kilo. So it's in here. And it comes with the bone too. So it is to share. And thank you so much. Less than a second. Crabs and bread. Grilled peppers. They look amazing. They're warm. They're on a knife. The beef has come. We got the one kilo cut to split. Oh yeah we still have vegetables coming. Yes. We got the vegetables and other people's ramen. Now they're ordering. The steak is amazing. But the vegetables might actually be better than the steak. I don't know what they did. It's amazing. They're insane. Gonzava is living up to their high ratings. So if you want a really nice steak experience, Gonzava. They were really nice. The people were incredible. Definitely get the vegetables. Oh wow. Ten. I've never had vegetables that amazing. Those were the best vegetables I've ever had. Yeah. And the meat was really amazing too. So great experience. Thanks again Les and Missy. And before we can start to get dark, we're going home. Time for us to bid farewell to the absolutely adorable city of Santiago de Compostela. I really like this town. It's really charming. Even if you don't arrive by way of pilgrimage, there's tons to do here for foodies, history lovers, and even just regular tourists. This town has something to offer for everybody. Right now we're headed to the train station, which is about a 10 minute walk from Old Town. Very accessible. Today we're heading to the historical port town of Acaruña up in the far northwest corner of Spain. About a 20 to 30 minute train ride from Compostela. Got our tickets on Omeo. And then we have a 40 minute walk to the Italian hotel. That's our train right there. Now we gotta go through door B. Once you get up, it'll tell you where to go. Platform B. Not a ton of seating at the train station, but there's a really nice little cafe here with good food offerings, good coffee, and we even got a Go Ducks. So, you know, hey. Not bad. It looks like the train gets here five minutes before it departs and they depart on time. The Compostela train station is gorgeous. All digitized. So, very nice. We're going to track four.
