today's video, I go netting in a tiny creek FILLED with exotic aquarium fish that have escaped captivity! After a recent flood a bunch of koi fish were released into the wild so I tried catching them out! We ended up finding a dead koi
Comments are disabled for this video.
He said upwards of like 10 Koi got out.
What could cause that?
He might've got attacked by something.
Oh, oh, he juked you out.
Oh my God!
Oh!
Oh, that was perfect.
He's gorgeous!
Look at this, you guys.
We literally got a Koi.
So cool.
What is up, BFB Nation?
Welcome back to another awesome video, guys.
Today, we are here at the Exotic Hub,
a chain of canals filled with exotic aquarium fish
we've been coming to for years now.
We've caught so many cool stuff here.
So yeah, guys,
this canal is actually filled with so many fish
and that is because all the houses here
usually have ponds in them.
And when there's ponds, people put fish in their ponds.
And a lot of times during floods and hurricanes,
a lot of the fish get out into these canals
and they don't really connect to anything main,
like a main canal or a pond.
It's just these canals that literally go on forever
down this road.
Yeah, guys, today we got a lot of rain recently.
You guys know that.
You've seen the flooding videos.
And we are back today
because there has been some Koi that escaped
someone's pond here.
We know that because it's happened before.
And they let us know again this time.
They say, hey,
more of our Koi got out through this pipe when it flooded.
And we need you guys to go
and try and catch them out and save them
because they're not gonna last in this canal.
They're big, colorful Koi
and they're gonna get attacked.
They're gonna be targeted.
We had no idea where they are.
I mean, these canals go on for miles, like I said,
but they are Koi.
So they're gonna be colorful, guys.
We've done this before.
We've caught Goldie, my massive gold Koi.
And we caught her here during a flood
and there was more Koi.
We haven't caught any of the other ones.
But this time she said a lot got through
because this whole pipe right here, check it out.
This whole thing was underwater.
You could see where the water line was.
It was about right here.
And all the Koi could literally just go from the pond,
which is across the street,
through this pipe and into the canal.
She said upwards of like 10 Koi got out.
So we shouldn't have too big of a problem finding a couple.
Maybe not all 10 today,
but we'll just have to come back and do a part two.
But I'm sure we'll find some.
We got a cast net here, a dip net,
and we're gonna walk down these canals
and see if we can spot them.
Check it out.
This is the pond where they escaped from.
Check it, guys.
This is right across the street from that pipe.
And this is their Koi pond.
It's a gorgeous pond.
This is literally my dream, okay?
Oh, one's right there.
Oh yeah.
One just came up right there.
Oh, that's so cool.
The pipe I think is right around this area.
You can see it's actually underwater still.
I don't know if they blocked it off yet.
I told them that that would be a smart idea,
but we don't know for sure.
There could be Koi escaping as we speak.
To help us with this little excursion today
is a six foot cast net.
And we're gonna have to break her open
to get these Koi in.
There we go.
Oh, that's a cool one.
Yeah, it's a blue one.
All right, guys, we are ready to go after these Koi.
Look how big this net is.
We're gonna get to it.
We're gonna start driving down, walking down,
and seeing if we can spot these guys.
And yeah, it's gonna be an adventure, dude.
We might come out with some really cool Koi.
Last time, it was a big, beefy, gold one.
She said if we catch any of them, we could keep them
because they're actually working on getting rid of some.
They have a lot and they wanna give us some.
So any of the Koi we catch today,
we're gonna be able to bring back to my ponds.
Let's get to it, guys, and see if we can find any.
All right, guys, now to help us catch these fish,
this is actually like a prevention.
If any Koi do get through the pipe as this is going on,
because it's still in the water,
they are still able to navigate through.
We're actually gonna place our rodent trap
right in front of it.
Okay, we might get lucky and get one in here.
We might not.
If they go through that pipe,
they might be dumb enough to go straight into the trap,
and then it will close and trap them in it.
That's just prevention, okay?
We don't actually think we're gonna get one in that,
but in case more escape, let's go down the canal, guys,
and see if we can find any.
We've just driven down the whole entire canal.
Now, this is where it gets interesting,
because if you look here, there's a giant pipe.
This is the canal where they first escaped out of,
and then if you follow this across the street,
it gets a little more dicey, because look at this.
This canal's a lot bigger, and it goes two ways.
It goes that way, and it goes that way.
Actually, it goes three ways.
It goes over there, too.
Look at all the lily pads here.
Keep your eyes peeled for something colorful.
Oh my God.
Oh.
Oh, I could see it from here.
No, it's dead.
No, it's a little guy, too.
Look, he's not as big as the first one we caught
that one time.
It's not as big as Goldie was.
It's just a little guy.
No.
Oh, that really, he's beautiful, too.
He's got the big mirror scales.
And he's dead, he's dead.
Oh, wow.
That sucks, you guys.
I was not expecting to see him dead.
He was pretty, though.
Yeah, look how gorgeous that koi was.
Why did he die?
What could cause that?
He might've got attacked by something.
There's a lot of aggressive fish in this water.
And also, with fish that are in captivity,
like it was in their pond.
Once they go out to the real world,
they're not the same fish.
They don't know how to hunt for food.
They're just not the same.
I mean, there's a lot of snakeheads in the canal, though.
Yeah, this one is really small.
So now we know that there could be smaller ones.
So they could have definitely got eaten by a snakehead,
but that really sucks to see, dude.
But that really sucks, you guys.
We're just gonna let nature take its course here.
Something will eat it.
We were just a little too late.
That really, really makes me sad, dude.
I was expecting to catch him alive
and bring him back to my house.
Well, we've seen one.
Okay, that was one in this canal.
Let's keep walking.
And hopefully we find that one that's alive.
And hopefully we don't find any more dead ones.
Is that a koi?
Where?
You see the orange thing on the bank right there?
I can't really see.
I can't tell if that is a koi or not.
Let's get closer.
Oh, here, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
We gotta be careful,
because if we push it that way,
we're not gonna be able to catch it.
Okay, let's go around.
Did you see it?
I saw, it looked like a little guy.
Yeah, look at this, look at this.
It's right under that pipe right there.
That is so crazy, guys.
There's a koi.
We have already spotted one,
and it hasn't even been that long.
Oh, God.
Oh, yeah, you could see him clear as day.
Ready?
Yeah.
Oh, did he get him?
Oh, he juked you out, he's over there.
Oh, my God, the net's bent.
No, come back.
Okay, yeah, at least he's going this way.
No, no, no.
Come back.
Oh.
I got him.
Nice.
Look at this, dude.
That's a nice koi.
Is that a butterfly?
I can't tell.
He's got a long tail on him.
Oh, dude, she's gorgeous.
Oh, I like this one.
Okay, where's the bucket?
Here, let's get the bucket filled up.
We got a live koi, dude.
That's two we've spotted already.
Both in this canal.
There might be more.
We literally got one.
Oh, my God.
He had no idea I was even there.
All right, in the bucket.
We have a cooler in the back of the truck
we're gonna put him in,
but that's awesome, you guys.
We literally got one.
An escaped koi is now in our possession.
We have taken him back.
Like I said, there's upwards of 10.
We know one died.
We just caught one.
There's a lot more to go.
Let's see if we can find them.
We got an aerator ready to go
to keep her nice and healthy.
They get a lot bigger than that.
This is not even that big of a koi.
I think they do grow pretty slow,
but look at that.
Nice.
Beautiful.
I love koi like this,
where it's like the white, the orange, the black,
all just mixed in together.
Beautiful.
Let's get her in the cooler.
And there she goes.
Soon she will be in our pond.
That is awesome, you guys.
Let's keep going down the canal.
Maybe we can search this big main one,
because I feel like if any of the big koi got out,
they're definitely gonna be in this one,
because it's the biggest canal.
Now, the good thing about this main canal, guys,
is it's very clear and not too deep.
It's very wide, though,
so the chances of me getting in there
and netting one of these koi that we see is very low.
We're gonna have to cast net them.
We're gonna walk down with a cast net
and see if we can spot any.
Rob, see something.
Let's see.
You might've gotten an african or something.
Nothing.
Oh, oh, what is that?
It's a Mayan cichlid.
Hey, let go.
We're gonna feed this to our Abba Abba knifefish.
Right there.
Right under the tree.
Oh, I see it.
That is a monster koi.
Get him, Rob.
Oh, he's far back there.
No!
I see him!
Guys, we have spotted a koi.
He's actually perched up right now under this tree,
and it's big and white.
We're gonna try and cast net it,
but it's all the way on the other side of the bank.
It's gonna be really difficult.
There it goes.
Rob, I see it.
He's going to the right now.
He's going to the right.
Oh my God, that was perfect.
That was right on him.
I don't feel anything.
No way.
Where did the koi go?
He's disappeared.
What are these?
Oh my God, dude.
Oh, you got bluegills.
You're going to jail.
No, there was something bigger flopping around.
Oh, there he is!
Under it!
Is that an African?
Yes, that's an African.
Yeah!
It's blue just like the net.
Yeah, that is a nice African.
Oh, that is nice.
You're looking at it.
Well, we didn't get that koi.
I don't even know where it went, guys.
We saw a giant white koi,
but we did get an African cichlid.
That is still cool.
Oh, there he is.
There he is.
Beautiful.
Check it, guys.
This is a beautiful Mabuna cichlid right here.
We catch these guys a lot.
Not the koi,
but if we're going to be catching African cichlids
along the way,
I got no problem with that.
This is going to be our African cichlid bucket.
There you go.
We got one so far.
Let's keep walking down.
We're going to see if we can find that koi again, guys.
I don't know if I got a good shot of them,
but we saw them clear as day
and Rob threw it right on.
I don't know how he got that.
That was actually like a money throw.
They're smart fish,
so it's going to be difficult,
but we're going to try.
Oh, dude, I see one!
Ah!
Hey.
You said you saw one, where?
Let's walk on foot.
Oh, Rob, get the cast net.
Detour, there's a jaguar right here.
Oh wait, he's going in that,
he's going in the bin.
Where was the koi?
I saw it while we were driving by,
and then you almost killed me.
So is he that way?
Oh, he's in the trash can!
He's in it.
We might've just caught this big jaguar here.
Use it to cover the bin.
Oh.
Oh, we might've gotten him.
This is so awkward.
Oh, I got him!
Oh!
Dude, you got both of them.
What?
That was like a million IQ, Rob.
Dude, those are beautiful.
That's a breeding pair of jaguar cichlids.
That's so cool, you guys.
Dude, that was honestly genius.
They're in that trash can.
All right, where's the koi?
Forget the koi, we just caught a jaguar.
Look at this, you guys.
We just caught a breeding pair of jaguar guapote cichlids.
Beautiful fish.
I love these guys.
So we're going to bring them both back,
and hopefully they'll breed in one of my ponds,
and then we got jag babies.
Yeah, I was about to say,
they're like low-key pond worthy.
Throw them in the cooler,
and we'll take them home later.
All right, let's get them in.
That's the female, that's the male.
Let's go see if we can get that koi now.
Then it would be like a trifecta.
Oh my God, I see him, I do see him, I see him, I see him.
Oh yeah, that's the one I saw.
How do you know you can see him on camera?
I don't know, we're going to have to get on it.
Look.
Oh, he's moving.
That's a gold one, that's really gold.
Is that the one you saw?
I don't, honestly, I don't think so.
You just saw color?
Oh, you got that.
Oh, that was perfect.
Oh, it's on the tree.
Oh, he escaped.
Oh no.
Caught on a tree.
Do you see him still?
Oh, I see him, he's right there.
Yeah, he's just chilling.
Okay, hopefully I don't sink in this canal, you guys.
Oh, come here, buddy.
Come on, we're trying to bring you home.
Oh, oh no, no, no, no, no, no.
Oh, he's on the run.
Oh, he's fast.
This one's a lot smarter than the first one.
Go in the trash can.
Oh.
I got him.
Nice.
Oh, he's full of mud, too.
Look at this.
Look at that one.
Oh, he's gorgeous.
That is so nice.
Oh my God.
It's like baby Matt.
We're getting so lucky right now, dude.
Oh, look how beautiful.
That's pretty.
Okay, you see that right there?
That is where he got through the pipe for sure.
See how he got rubbed there?
Yeah.
He's got a little marking.
That's from when he got out of the pipe probably.
Look at the big mirror scales.
Yeah, that's a really nice fish.
All right, let's get him in the cooler.
Oh my God.
I love this one.
Ew.
I'm gonna add him in.
There you go.
Check this out, guys.
Look at our haul so far.
We have two jaguars, a Mayan,
which is, that's an Abbey snack right there,
and then two beautiful koi, dude.
This is so sick.
We're actually catching a lot of cool fish.
So we're gonna keep driving down this one
and see where that leads us, guys.
We've just caught two massive jags
and a really beautiful koi in this one.
So, hey, maybe there's more.
All right, we're making our way down the canal, guys.
We have come across this culvert pipe here.
It's very deep water.
Rob's gonna throw the cast net.
That may be a koi's right there.
Oh, what the heck is that?
I feel something.
What is that?
What was, did you see that cichlid?
You got something in the net.
Oh yeah, I did.
Oh, it's one of you.
So guys, as you can see behind me,
all these houses have their own ponds pretty much,
and most of them do connect through pipes
to the main canal here.
So that's why a lot of these canals do have aquarium fish,
like abrogate cichlids, even koi.
So you really never know what we're gonna catch in here,
and that's why it is just so fun.
Where was it?
I don't see anything, guys.
Rob said he just saw another koi.
You 100% sure?
I'm like very, very sure.
Are you sure, guys?
I mean, Rob, are you taking your meds?
What color was it?
I think, oh, oh, it's right there.
It's right there, it's right there.
Look at it.
Oh, I see it, I see it, yeah.
Yeah, there it is.
Yeah, he was under, oh, oh, easy.
He's going sicko mode.
Oh, he's very skittish.
Oh, wow.
Dude, he's so fast.
Oh my, that one's pretty small, guys.
Is it?
Oh, oh, he's coming.
Come on, get in my net.
Get in my net.
Oh.
Come here.
Oh, that's him.
No, I almost had him.
Come on.
Oh, he just juked you out so hard.
He just, yeah, he just broke my ankle.
Where'd he go?
He disappeared.
Well, guys, that koi eluded me.
Oh, okay, I don't see the koi,
but I see one of the koi's predators now.
There's a giant gar right here.
Oh.
Yeah, that koi would be a gar snack in a second.
Whoa, whoa, he's big.
Oh.
Oh, that is a big gar.
I'm worried.
I'm worried for that koi now, dude.
Okay, guys.
Well, it's been like 20, 30 minutes
of us just searching around,
trying to find that koi that, you know, evaded me.
We can't find him.
We don't know where he went,
but he could be down that way,
could be the other way.
So we're gonna keep driving,
see if we can see him, maybe his friends.
There's a lot in here, supposedly.
So yeah, guys, that sucks that now we know
that there's one in this area,
but we couldn't catch him.
Yeah, guys, we're gonna keep moving forward
and see if we can get another one.
All right, guys, we've made it to this part
where it opens up a little bit
and connects to these shallow areas.
There definitely could be some koi here.
So if we don't see him,
Rob's still gonna throw the cast net
and we might get lucky.
Let's see what we can get.
Smells like fish.
Let's see it.
Oh, nice.
You gotta like, let it sit.
Anything?
I don't feel anything,
but that doesn't mean there's nothing there.
What the heck is that?
What?
What is that?
I don't know.
You should catch it.
Oh, no.
That sucked.
Dude, you should try a cast net that.
Nice.
Oh, oh, you got a fish.
I see something.
Oh, really?
What is that?
Oh, there was something in there.
I saw it for sure.
Yeah, pull her on it.
Oh, oh, it's a Mayan, dude.
Are you kidding?
Oh my God.
Bro.
Is that an African?
Oh my God, it's gorgeous.
Dude.
Oh my God.
That is so cool.
That's an Obi, dude.
We've not caught a lot of these here.
Usually it's the blue ones.
That is an Obi, a little orange, a little blue.
Very cool cichlid.
Let's get them in the African cichlid bucket.
We're going to add them in here.
There he goes with the blue one.
We got two Africans now.
When we go home and put these coy in our pond,
we're also going to put these cichlids in the same pond.
It's going to be really cool guys.
But I think now, honestly,
I think we're just going to go
and check our fish trap there.
It's getting late.
If you guys want to see a part two,
we know there's a lot more coy in here,
but we did successfully catch two already.
So we're going to go check our fish trap
and see where they got out and see if we got any there.
If not, we'll come back and make a part two, you guys.
So let's go see if we got anything in that.
All right, guys, we're back at the trap.
I'm trying to use my see-through night vision goggles
here to see, but the door looks like it is actually closed.
Can you see that?
Oh, that's a leaf in it.
I thought the orange thing was actually a fish.
The door's closed.
Yeah, it's definitely closed.
Yeah.
I don't see anything though.
I'll just pull it up.
That's weird though.
The trap is literally closed.
The only way it'll close is if that pressure plate
gets hit by something.
Might've been a little fish.
We'll see.
Oh!
Hello?
Oh, that is a coy!
Really?
Dude, I'm not even kidding.
This actually worked.
Are you kidding me?
Wow.
He's right by the plate.
Yeah.
Oh, it literally worked, dude.
Oh my God.
That's hilarious.
I honestly, I didn't think this would actually work.
That means they don't have this blocked off with anything.
That's so weird.
Let's go look over there.
I got to call them right now and tell them
that they got to block that off.
I think it's right down there where that plumbing is.
Yeah.
Yeah, it could be.
That's crazy though.
Let's get this coy out of the trap.
Not sure how I want to do this
because I don't want him flopping around,
damaging his scales, his fins.
Look at this, you guys.
We literally got a coy.
Oh my God.
Yeah, it's a butterfly.
All right, here.
I'm just going to open it and see if I can grab him
out of it.
Gotcha.
Nice and easy.
No.
Nice and easy.
Got him.
Look at this little guy.
Oh, he's beautiful.
That's pretty.
That's nice.
I like that one.
What a beautiful coy.
All right, let's get you in the cooler with your friends.
Wow, look at her.
That's a nice one.
What is that?
Three coy that we managed to get.
We found a dead one earlier, which was really sad.
Very pretty one.
And then one eluded us down the canal a little bit,
but we did come out winners.
We got three of these coy out, which is big.
Okay, that's a really, really big success in my books.
I think this gold one actually is my favorite.
Look at her.
She's beautiful.
Wow.
Imagine her when she gets older.
Yeah, that's nice.
Insane day.
Catching coy that have escaped their pond in the wild, guys.
Definitely gonna have to do a part two soon
because we know there's more in here
and we gotta act fast.
We gotta get them out as soon as possible
just to make sure, you know, they don't die like that one
did for whatever reason, a snake could have killed them.
Yeah, guys, for now, we're gonna head back to my house now
and put these guys in my pond
because she actually gave me permission to do that.
She said, hey, if you managed to get these coy out,
you know, you could thank them.
So that's awesome, guys.
We're gonna add these to my ponds now,
as well as those African cichlids and the jags.
We'll see you guys there.
All right, you guys, we've made it back to my house.
Check it out.
We're here at the black tub now.
We actually added some fish in yesterday from the dumpster.
Actually in there, all right here,
look at the little turtles, guys.
All three are doing amazing.
Oh, look at these little guppies Rob put in here.
The mystery pond is coming along.
We got a dumpy in here, a bunch of really cool fish.
And now, guys, I think we're gonna add
the first coy in here.
We have some goldfish and now we're gonna add coy.
We got three.
This one is my favorite by far.
You can see right there is where it got scraped up
on that little pipe.
Probably going into the canal.
We're gonna add them in here to the pond.
Sick.
That's really cool.
That's cool, dude.
They look good.
We got this guy.
This is the first one we caught.
Beautiful coy, beautiful.
Last one.
This is the one we actually caught in the fish trap.
I was not expecting to,
but we texted the people that live there
and we told them, hey, you should probably block it off
because we caught one trying to escape again.
There he goes.
Hopefully they blocked that off and no more escape.
All right.
And now guys, we have some African cichlids here,
which we're also gonna add to the black tub.
Black tub's getting a lot of love recently.
You got a little Mabuna here.
In you go, buddy.
And Obi.
This guy's really cool.
Very pretty Obi.
See ya.
A breeding pair of jaguars.
Now, I think we're actually gonna move them
into this black tub.
This is where we're gonna put them
because if they are a breeding pair
and they do spawn in there,
the baby jaguars are gonna flourish
and that's gonna be really cool.
So we're gonna add the male.
The big old male.
Dude, that is so cool.
Oh my God.
I love jaguars.
They are so awesome.
Then we got his wife here.
Hey, relax.
We're gonna add her right where her husband is.
Perfect.
Hopefully they spawn, you guys.
That's gonna be really cool.
Yeah, the black pond is coming along, guys.
If you want a part two where we try to catch more of the koi
that escaped their pond,
go down there and leave a like, leave a comment,
subscribe down below if you guys haven't already.
I will see you guys in the next one.
Peace out.
