You are not a person. Or said in another way — the self is an illusion. The questioner, after reading 'I Am That' by Nisargadatta Maharaj, always thought that there was a 'someone' who would awaken to their true nature. She now realises that there is no one here that is 'that' — and that there is only 'that.'

Rupert agrees and says that no one has being, no one experiences being. There is no person for whom being is their deepest experience. Statements like that are just concessions to the person that thinks they are a person. If you think you are a person — being is your deepest experience. That is just the early stages. After a while we don't need to start there anymore.

One of the Mahavakyas — great sayings in the Vedantic tradition — is 'I am Brahman' or 'I am that' but 'I am' is even higher than that. Instead of 'I am that', 'I am that I am' is the highest. I am I — I am always I. I am only I — there is not 'one' to be 'that'.

Only being is being. Being is being being.
