Parking Overnight at The Kelpies | MOTORHOME Roadtrip Scotland

So we're just about to enter Scotland now. We're currently in England but not very long until we're in Scotland there's the big blue and white sign. It's a beautiful part of the country around here though. It's a beautiful part of the UK. There you go. Hi we're in Scotland. I suddenly feel the need for a whiskey. What a great excuse. So we're having a right weird conversation. I said to Gary what about you know he should get married if anything happens to me. He should get married again but he was like he doesn't want to get married again. He doesn't want to meet anyone. He's not interested. I said well you know you might be lonely and everything. He's like I won't be lonely. I don't want to meet anyone. He said anyway I'll just bring you in the van with me. So I don't know if he's got plans to taxidermy me. I said we're going to do that. Taxidermy me with my mouth open or something like that. I'm sitting in the van like this. Like some sort of like fat sex doll. You know what I mean. Like the worst sex doll ever. I'm just not going anywhere near that. You were the one suggesting it. I didn't mention anything about you being stuck with your mouth open. No it's all on you. So if anything happens to me you're not going to know about it because he's not telling anyone. But if you see me looking very stiff on camera these days like yeah yeah looking very like last side. Wave to everybody Julia. See the conversations we have they're so weird. So we've just seen a sign on the road that says yellow warning high winds forecast. So tomorrow is supposed to be really bad weather isn't it. Starting early in the morning and then going through pretty much a 48 hour period. Christ I don't know what we're thinking coming over here instead of staying in southern Spain. But anyway we're here now and we really want to see family that's why we're here really. We're going to go and stay at the Kelpies tonight and I've been dying to see these. They're just absolutely beautiful and if you do watch us regularly you'll know what a massive fan I am of giant sculptures. So this hits all the marks for us. So the weather definitely looks like it's turning. Look at those black clouds. Starting to rain a little isn't it Gary. The birds are rushing home to their nest. Oh crikey I think it's going to be really terrible weather. We've got a couple of nights before we head to where we're actually going but my goodness we're going right up right up to Inverness Way. Glimpse of them. You're right near the road though. Have you ever seen anything more spectacular than these? Aren't they beautiful? They're ginormous as well. Wow they're 30 meters or 98 feet as well Babs. Did you know they each have names? No I didn't know they've got a name have they? So the one on the right looking up is called Baron and the one on the left looking straight ahead is called Duke. Oh I love that and they were designed by a Scottish sculptor called Andy Scott and they were completed in October 2013 but the unveiling ceremony took place in 2014 in April but they cost five million to make. And the myth of the legend is also really interesting. Now a kelpie is a shape-changing aquatic spirit from Scottish legend. Now its name apparently derives from the Scottish Gaelic work Caelpeach or Colpach which means heifer or colt. Now kelpies are said to haunt rivers and streams and whilst they are malevolent spirits they're actually trying to entice you to ride their back down to your watery grave. Well that sounds bloody awful. Well to be honest I think the modern day sculptures and the intention is to really praise those horses that helped to build Scottish industry. Those really strong horses because these kelpies are supposed to have the strength of 10 horses I read somewhere. It's a magnificent place to come you've got to come here. So we've woken up this morning to a right old gale. There's a yellow weather warning in place. Fantastic. Gary's trying to get the silver screen off but it was blowing a hoolie last night. Oh I mean these are magnificent seeing these. We've got those gorgeous kelpies there but this is a rainy old day. Morning. Right well that was a bit of a mare last night wasn't it? Yes well we're right in the middle of a yellow weather warning at the moment and boy are we. Yeah you're not wrong. The wind is strong. Well the van was really rocking you know what I mean and it was one of them situations where you could have come and knocked it even though it was rocky. It's now going on but the guy comes around so this is what happens because we couldn't work out what happened could we? So the guy comes around he gives you a knock about 8 30 at night. Yeah it was about that time. About that time we were like oh god who's there who's there and it was him coming around with like um what do you call it one of those card payment things wasn't it? £12.50 for the night which we thought was brilliant but get this the guy was 82 right? I'm not kidding you he told us he was 82 and he looked the same age as Gary. I'm not even joking you know 73. No he looked in his 50s. We were really shocked weren't we? I wanted the moisturizer he was using. Yeah well there was something well he reckoned it's the Scottish wind and then you said it was the whisky. I don't have a whisky. He could have had a whisky but he didn't want to open his Christmas present early so it was it was all his fault if he didn't get a whisky last night. I was like open it it's fine. Anyway we're heading off now this morning and we're gonna we're probably going to stay in a hotel tonight mainly because the weather is really bad. It is and it's not continuing it's not sort of due to stop until tomorrow well tomorrow late evening so. Yeah so you know rather than take any chances we're just gonna have a stop in a hotel maybe make the most of it before we finally reach our destination because it's quite far up into Scotland that we're going. Anyway right let's go. That's right. That's us off it's pouring with rain they're magnificent. It's well worth coming here isn't it. Once we left the magnificent Kelpies there was a big yellow weather warning in place in Scotland especially where we were heading towards Inverness so we thought right what we'll do is we'll stay in a hotel for the night so we stayed in the McDonald's just outside of Inverness not the McDonald's I love a big mac and fries please you know chocolate milkshake on the side not that kind of McDonald's quite a nice fancy hotel. To be honest it was a real nice little treat for Gary and I and we had a like an evening meal and a breakfast and a beautiful room. The evening meal was delicious but there were like really sort of small portions so Gary and I were still hungry really to be honest but that's because we're quite greedy. Anyway we headed off the next morning and stayed at Lossiemouth overnight. We didn't catch much footage I'll be honest with you because we're spending a lot of time with family at this point but here's a little snippet of us at Lossie. How's this for a gorgeous view this morning girls? So isn't this lovely this is our little view from Lossiemouth found a little park up we'll the what three words on but uh yeah it was nice and uh quiet but windy wasn't it last night? Bit windy bit chilly. It was freezing. So those of you who watch our channel regularly will probably know that we sometimes supplement our travels with some house sitting and what we do is we effectively go and stay at people's houses and look after their pets while they're away. Well we did a little bit of that over Christmas we took a four-day house sit over the Christmas period and looked after three gorgeous dogs. Here's Gary with them and it really helped us to be able to visit family and also they were so kind they let us let my other son come up and stay so we had extra room and it gave us an opportunity to be together. Anyway so we spent a little bit of time with our gorgeous grandson Blake and we looked after him for the night and that was just magic for us. He's such a good baby aren't you? He's such a good baby. Are you having a lovely time? He's such a good papa. Look how happy he is he's just relaxed and he's just having a really lovely time. He's just spent 45 minutes playing with me in the bedroom and look it's just lovely. He's happy it's Larry. Like the Lion King. Oh isn't he gorgeous and squidgy? Oh we love him so much but after a fabulous Christmas we had to start heading back to Spain. So we started heading south in Scotland towards England and we took a pub stop quite near Gretna Green and this is where I asked Gary for his advice on my hair. Now I've cut my hair short I can't really like put me bows in anymore so I'm gonna see what Gary thinks of this and he will tell me the truth I know he will he's just about hang on Gary Gary yeah can I get an honest opinion what do you think of my hair like this last night we stayed overnight in a lovely like pub stop didn't we did yeah the old stables yeah we didn't do much filming here I'll show you what it's like and I'll show you the location map and it's only about I think it's about 30 30 miles tops isn't it to Gretna for me so we stayed in the old stables last night it's a really good stop we had a spot here there was another motorhome right next to us here there's no other facilities you know other than you can just park for the night and we had a lovely meal so highly recommended actually so that's it for this week but join us next week when we do go to Gretna Green and Gary makes a proposal to me that I cannot refuse
