John Brown's Blues ft. Christian McBride
#americanmusic #music #revolutionmusic
Originally recorded by saxophonist Oliver Nelson, "John Brown's Blues" is actually a small group jazz setting of "John Brown's Body," a Civil War-era tune about the abolitionist John Brown. You may also recognize the melody as Julia Ward Howe's "Battle Hymn of the Republic," which actually came afterward.
We were absolutely honored to collaborate with the multi-Grammy winning bassist and composer Christian McBride on this performance, which is an excerpt from the U.S. Army Field Band's PBS program "Salute to Service."
