The EU and China are marking the 50th anniversary of this week's diplomatic relations.
But the EU leaders warn that China is posing a greater risk to the economy and the security of the continent.
David Fives, an international NTD correspondent, reports from Paris.
After marking the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations between the EU and China,
the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reflects on the relationship.
She started by praising China, which for the last 50 years has been the main global power.
Although she said she wanted to start a new relationship with China, she criticized Beijing's recent diplomacy.
On June 3, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated in Berlin that China could not accept the defeat of Russia in Ukraine,
which could make it possible for the United States to fully focus on China.
China's persistent support for Russia has created increasing instability and insecurity for Europe.
We can say that China has de facto made possible the economy of the Russian war,
and we cannot accept this.
And I always say that how China continues to interact with Putin's war
will be a determining factor for the future relations between the EU and China.
In the field of economy, von der Leyen emphasized that the dependence of the EU on China's raw materials has increased.
She also pointed out that Beijing's practices of constantly flooding the global market
while ignoring international trade agreements as a major risk.
China is running the largest trade surplus in human history.
Its trade surplus with the United States exceeded 300 billion euros last year.
And this is becoming increasingly difficult for European companies to do business in China.
Several EU countries in recent months have asked the United States to protect them from the flood of goods from China.
Since the Trump administration imposed a new tariff of up to 55% for China's imports,
the European Central Bank has reported an increase in China's goods exports to Europe of 2-3%.
Although the amount seems small, the trend is getting faster,
threatening industries in the EU bloc.
French Finance Minister Eric Lembar said on Monday,
we must protect our industry.
If not, China's policy of having a production capacity of more than 50% of the global market in each sector
will kill our industry.
At the J7 Summit in Canada in June, Ursula von der Leyen blamed Beijing's trade practices
since joining the World Trade Organization in 2001.
She accused China of using a model of domination, dependence,
and prejudice against its trade partners.
