#pets #animalkingdom
Welcome to the final part in our series marking 25 years since the MV Treasure spill. This short film offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the challenges and triumphs of the most successful wildlife rescue in history.
The scale of the crisis was staggering: over 20,000 oiled African Penguins, 400 tons of fish, and a sprawling emergency response facility. 56 organizations coordinated thousands of volunteers. More African Penguins were cared for during this spill than exist in the world today. Through ingenuity, large-scale collaboration, and tireless dedication, the team achieved an unprecedented 90 percent release rate! This effort was only possible because people united around a common goal.
25 years later, we remain committed to rescuing waterbirds in crisis and carrying these lessons forward in a changing world.
Watch now to see what happened when the world showed up for penguins.
