A tour of what we are growing in a Regenerative Agroforestry System (R.A.S.), after three years since it was started on a dry and empty field. In this episode we look at some of the fruits and vegetables that we are growing between the lines of trees. we also look at how the fruits and vegetables produce enough bio-mass to create topsoil to therefor feed the trees and help the forest to grow. Ecosystem restoration through food production.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you will see, the emphasis is on ´perennial´ vegetables, but, Why? Well, for example, they live for many years and they are low maintenance, they are often higher in mineral content because of their deep roots, they develop habitats for wildlife and long term microbial relationships that improve soil health, they can create permanent ground-covers, and they are normally easy to reproduce which inspires sharing. so plant them once and enjoy!
CORRECTION AT 12:42 I mention that plantain (Plantago spp.) and the plaintain banana (Musa × paradisiaca) are in the same family, but they are not! they only share the same name of plantain. But bananas are herbs! we can eat plantago leaves but not banana leaves!
