How to Purchase and Install a Sim Local eSIM on iPhone

Before we get started, let's quickly check a few things to help the installation go smoothly. Firstly, make sure your phone is eSIM compatible. The quickest way to check this is to use our compatibility checker linked in the description below. Next, make sure your phone is unlocked from your network. This just means your phone is able to accept SIMs from other networks as well as your own. If you need to unlock your phone first, give your network provider a call and ask them to do it for you. It's simple and free. Lastly, make sure you have access to a stable internet or Wi-Fi connection while we go through the installation process in slow motion. Let's get started. First, let's download the SimLocal app from the App Store. Open it and create a new account. Creating your account straight away will give you the best possible experience when using your SimLocal eSIM. You can also do this using your Apple ID. Once you've created your account, you'll need to confirm your email with the verification code we've sent you. Now that your account is confirmed, let's find the right eSIM plan for you. To start, tap My eSIM, then see our plans. Here, you can enter your destination to see our range of available plans. But if you're not sure how much data you might need on your trip, just use our quick and easy data calculator, which we've linked in the description below. Once you've found the right plan for you, tap Buy Now and don't worry, if you happen to use your data sooner than expected, you can simply top up your allowance using our app. Next, check your order and make sure the plan details are correct before tapping Continue to Payment. You can then enter your card details or, alternatively, choose to pay with PayPal. When you're ready, tap Place Order to buy your eSIM plan. You'll then be given two options. You can either download your plan automatically or scan a QR code. If you choose to scan the QR code, you'll need a second device or someone to help you. To keep things simple, we recommend you simply tap Download Plan. Once it's downloaded, tap Install Plan. You should only do this near the time of travel, as your plan will start from the moment it's activated. When you're asked to activate the new eSIM, tap Allow and then Continue. Your screen will then say Connecting to Network. This part can take a couple of minutes, but when it's done, it'll either say Mobile Plan Setup Complete or Cellular Plan Setup Complete. Next, you'll need to select your default line. To do this, simply select the option that isn't named Primary. This is usually called Secondary or Travel. Once that's done, you'll be asked about your iMessages and FaceTime preferences. Make sure you select Primary to keep these on. Then, in your Mobile Data Settings, make sure you select Secondary to allow data to be used on your eSIM. Finally, let's make sure that Allow Mobile Data Switching is turned off. Great. We're nearly done. Now we need to rename your eSIM, so that when you're back home from your travels and want to delete it, you'll know exactly which one it is. Go to Settings, select Mobile Service or Cellular Service, and under SIMS, tap on your new eSIM. Next, tap Mobile Plan Label, and under Custom Label, change the name of your eSIM. We recommend calling it SIM Local or naming it after the country you're planning to visit. Once that's done, return to Secondary and toggle Data Roaming on. And that's it. You've successfully installed and activated your new SIM Local eSIM Ink and Absolute Pro. If you want to quickly double-check that it's installed correctly, just go to Mobile Data or Cellular Data in your settings. Here, you'll be able to make sure that your new eSIM or secondary SIM is selected. And for anyone using one of SIM Local's Smart Roam plans, you can check your data usage anytime in the app by tapping on the My eSIM tab. If you find that you're using more data than expected on your trip, don't worry. Many of our eSIMs can be topped up using the SIM Local app. To top up your eSIM, just open up the app, tap the My eSIM tab, and then tap Buy Top-Up. You'll then be able to select the amount of additional data you'd like to add to your eSIM plan so you can stay connected worry-free for the rest of your trip. Finally, when you're back home, you'll need to switch back to your home SIM. To do this, go to your iPhone's settings, select Mobile Service or Cellular Service, then go to Mobile Data or Cellular Data. Then simply select Primary SIM and you're done. So there you have it.
