Protecting the Central Arctic Ocean Through Indigenous Knowledge and Science

Ocean Conservancy and ‪@oceansnorth1841‬ are proud to announce that more than 1,000 scientists and prominent Arctic experts from around the world have joined together to call for protection of the Central Arctic Ocean through an approach that formally recognizes the role Indigenous knowledge should play alongside science.

If we are to protect the Central Arctic Ocean, which is crucial to help regulate the climate, stabilize the jet stream and so much more, we must recognize the role of Indigenous knowledge.

Our global community must prioritize protection over exploitation. And to do that, science and Indigenous knowledge must work hand-in-hand so we can make informed decisions to safeguard the Arctic’s future.
