Getting the Message Through | Marine Faculty Advisor

When I originally joined the Marine Corps, I was a public affairs Marine.
I was a combat correspondent.
So now I teach at the Staff Academy.
I'm a faculty advisor for a career school.
We facilitate war fighting, administrative and communications,
leadership, and training packages for staff sergeants.
One of the things I like the most about being a faculty advisor
is the impact that I'm able to make here.
So the Marine Corps has different SDAs, right?
You've got recruiters that turn civilians into recruits,
and you've got drill instructors that turn recruits into Marines.
But at this level, at the staff sergeant level,
being a faculty advisor gives me the opportunity to impact these staff sergeants
who will then go back to their units and impact all the Marines under their charge
and some of their superiors and peers alike.
And this is the only place in the Marine Corps where you can have that kind of impact.
Like, even if I don't meet a Marine,
there's a chance that I have taught or exposed their staff sergeant
to something that is going to help them in their careers or in their life,
and that's a great feeling.
