Coast Guard MSRT: The Special Forces of Maritime Security
Lieutenant Junior Grade Matthew Chambers. I'm part of MSRT East out of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Behind me today we're at the James River Reserve Fleet doing some training out here.
So today we did a limited mission profile exercise utilizing multiple service assets.
We were out here training today with two of our direct action section teams as well as
some EOD counterparts training on one of the ships behind me.
Later in the afternoon we did some joint training with the Army Rangers.
They were in Navy helicopters participating with our Coast Guard Precision Marksmen.
Teamwork's very critical to everything we do at MSRT. When we come out on missions like these
we're often, you know, far away from shore, don't have backup, that sort of thing. So we are the
only people out there as ourselves, the guy next to you and behind you and whatnot. So
being able to rely on those guys is key when we're in this environment and that's trained
into you through the whole experience and training pipeline that we have at MSRT is
being able to rely on the squad member next to you to be able to get the job done.
The best part of the job is getting to come out and do exciting training events like this and
work with interagency partners. So today we were out here with Army, Navy, you know, it's just a
great time to be out here and working with the sister services and getting the job done.
