This chicken compost system is a great method for making extra food for chickens and creating great finished compost with less work.

Zone 1: In this area, we add the ingredients. This includes food scraps, weeds, animal bedding and any organic matter. The chickens eat what they like and scratch around the rest, breaking it down.

Zone 2: We move zone 1 into zone 2 every few weeks. Here, the chickens scratch around for bugs and break down the compost even more. This helps the microbes break down the compost as it has been smashed into smaller particles.

Zone 3: We move the compost from zone 2 to zone 3 after another few weeks, where it is left to finish. It is ready for harvest within one week.
