Why is this Roman fort in the middle of nowhere? - Hardknott Roman Fort

Getting to this fort was tough: ascending a 30% incline with sharp 90 degree bends. It holds the title as the most isolated Roman fort in Britain which raises the question.... why is Hardknott Roman fort in the middle of nowhere?

A note on the name of this fort: although many have called Hardknott Roman fort 'Mediobogdum' but this relies on faulty logic. To quote page 68 from the above book "If Ravenglass is not Glannoventa, then the identification of Hardknott as Mediobogdum fails."
