Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans Talk ‘Materialists’ and Matchmaking

We're back it is 8.42 we're back with the stars of the new movie materialists Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans Dakota plays a matchmaker good at finding love for others, not so much for herself but that is when she finds herself in a bit of a love triangle with Pedro Pascal's character and her ex played by another handsome fellow Chris take a look. So we were talking about this in the commercial break. I'm not a rom-com guy don't like a lot of rom-coms I find them to be a bit formulaic in the predictable. This is not that this is not a rom-com it's like a of a romantic dramedy of of sorts you play this matchmaker how would you describe your character, how would you describe her journey and in this film. Lucy is an extremely focused very professional very good at her job, she's she's very focused on other people's hearts and not her own so the journey of her throughout the movie is sort of realizing what is genuinely important in life. But it also seems like it is there's a there's a sort of modern. Exploration of the things we we value in relationships and and life as well materialism versus true love, whatever that might be there's this complicated dynamic that you have with Chris and also Pedro Pascal a lot of a lot of themes that have been woven into this film as well because. Yes, sure well, it's more about how some of the social norms that may have kept marriages together and our parents generations have kind of eroded over time so now love is kind of devolved into this more. A calculation, you know it's more about your head than your heart. And you play this guy in the film, you've got some some pretty horrible roommates, you're struggling actor was was it a bit of a stretch for you or were the were these things that you could relate to look. I know that guy and I know that time we first shot the scene in my apartment John's apartment is a very recognizable to any struggling actor and the roommates as well. I feel like you're going to make it with it eventually you just got to have you know good luck to you yes, thanks. It's going to work out well for you to leave my resume on the way if if if either of you were to ever engage with the real life matchmaker we what would be one non negotiable for you. With the non negotiable. I would say must love dogs. Got to love dogs, not a dog person what we do OK, well the code you check that box and I like not an. That's that's concise.
