The latest from London
You know, Chums, it's absolutely humid here in the very heart of London right now.
A wonderful, wonderful day.
Just incredibly warm, like a summer's day should be.
And of course, everything's gearing up to a splendid summer over here in the United Kingdom.
We've got Wimbledon to look forward to, and the strawberries and cream, if you can afford them.
You know what I'm saying, Chums.
But of course, there's many other different aspects of royal life that we all enjoy.
Including this week, of course, Royal Ascot. Have you ever been?
Oh, I've been lucky enough to attend, all thanks to news channels and stuff.
It's a marvellous place, let me tell you.
It's one of those places where you feel money, do you know what I mean?
No, not your own, because you haven't got any, you know.
But the thing is, you can just smell wealth, you know.
It's champagne, it's strawberries, it's fruit, it's Pimms.
And it's just an electric atmosphere, all thanks to the arrival every day of the procession of the royals.
Did you hear about, of course, the Princess Anne's carriage breaking down?
Not a problem for her at one point. I thought she might get out and fix it herself.
You know what I'm saying? That's why I love that particular lady.
But it's this story I wanted to highlight to you today.
Because obviously, certain people around the world are escalating this too.
Well, let me explain.
Morning, good to see you, Chums. Thank you so much, as ever, for joining me today.
In the very heart of London, as I said.
A wonderful, humid day today.
But nonetheless, you know, we should be grateful.
Because I know, at some point later on in the year, I'll be stood in this very same spot.
It's very cold, it's freezing.
And that's the thing about life, isn't it? An ever-evolving circle.
Now, what's interesting, and I wanted to point this out to you, is simply this.
At Royal Ascot today, everybody was down.
Most of the senior royals, including, of course, His Majesty the King, Queen Camilla.
And as I told you now, he's such a fan of Royal Ascot, he now wants to attend all the days.
Which is wonderful for them, because great for business, absolutely.
But down on the list today was none other than the Prince and Princess of Wales.
And then, at the 11th hour, like sort of 30 minutes before her arrival,
it was announced that, in fact, she now wouldn't be attending.
And a lot of people are very upset.
There's a bigger reason for that.
This twofold, really.
People love her and they like to see her.
Of course, we like to see what she's wearing, how she lopes.
And her interacting with the crowd, that sort of stuff.
For the snappers, the photographers, she's big business, you know.
Her picture is the one that truly sells.
That's what they've told me.
If you want to get the right picture of Catherine, it can sell for a lot, a lot, a lot of money.
But sadly, 30 minutes before the event, as I say, she was unable to attend.
Now, I believe that Kensington Palace Communications kind of really botched this a little bit.
Because really, by announcing 30 minutes before, it created something of a problem.
Particularly in the media.
Now, the official line is that, you know, she was never down to attend.
But as you can see, she was down on the printed list.
In her place was none other than Carol Middleton.
The matriarch, of course, of the Middleton clan.
And one who's a great support to the British monarchy.
And indeed, the Prince of Wales, Prince William.
So, what was the true story behind her disappearance?
And is it to do with ill health?
Well, what I can tell you, from my excellent sources, is simply this.
Catherine, I'm going to put this nicely, you know.
She's just in two big events on the trot.
Order of the Garter and Troop in the Collar.
Imagine the immense pressure on that.
I mean, I know you might say, well, she's just attending.
She's in a carriage. She's waving.
It's not that hard.
The world is looking at you.
Scrutinizing in every single aspect.
And you're still a little bit wobbly from time to time, coming back on the world stage.
The other story that's come out is the fact that apparently Catherine has an allergy
to horses and does keep a distance from them.
And it's the reason she's in a carriage and not too close at the Trooping of the Collar.
The other side of it is simply this.
I was told from an excellent source that Catherine has still good and bad days.
And some days she feels really perky, pecker, up, all of that sort of stuff.
And then out of nowhere, and if anybody's going through the same thing, you'll know what I mean,
that you just literally have a zap of energy.
You don't want to let people down, but you have to look after your health.
So that there's nothing to worry about from that excellent source.
It's just simply, you know, go and steady as and when.
But of course, sometimes in the media,
these particular stories can escalate into something more.
Catherine will be back, literally, within moments, dare we say.
But the bottom line is today, on a very hot day, when she probably just didn't feel her best,
she decided, rightly so, to step back.
And we're grateful for her doing that,
because we do want her to get back to full throttle, as we say in the North.
So whatever you're thinking, Mum, don't bother.
We're all with you.
And everybody, of course, let's just go and wish her all the very best.
And to everybody out there who's going through a similar situation,
moving forward, you've all got, of course, our full support.
Neil Sean, in the very heart of London.
