I have a 9am but I was actually quite happy to have a 9am today because I've been having
back to back 8am's every single day.
I honestly never thought I'd see the day where I'm happy to have a 9am but today is that
day.
My outfit today is quite green so I wanted to wear these greenish contact lenses from
Moody to complete my look and also to help me see my viewfinder because I can't even
see what I look like right now.
I've never worn a green lens before.
I really love how my makeup turned out today and I think the lenses really match my top.
I'm gonna head to class now, I'll see you in a bit.
Thank you.
I feel so bad.
Is the swelling in both knees left or right?
Would you like to say something?
We're gonna go get some food.
I think we need to talk.
There we go.
What?
I got the daydream nacho.
I'm supposed to dig in.
Panorama shot.
First bite.
Taste test.
The inside is nice but the outside is impenetrable.
It's a fracture.
Nice.
I just had three hours of teaching so I had a couple of teaching sessions back to back
and I also got a lunch break in between so me and my friends just went out to go grab
a sweet treat and a matcha.
I'm also scheduled for clinics today but I decided not to go because I'm kind of not
dressed appropriately for clinics but I wanted to wear a cute outfit today so I ended up
getting a buns from home.
I got the mixed berry cheesecake bun which is my favorite one but after eating this one
I think that it's a little bit too sweet so I think I actually prefer the vanilla.
And I also got, I think this was like a matcha dream latte?
I can't remember what this was but it literally just tastes like oat milk so I really don't
think it was worth it.
But basically this morning I had some rheumatology teaching.
It was just on how to take a history of a patient presenting with joint pain.
I also had a teaching session on orthopedic emergencies so that was septic arthritis,
necrotizing fasciitis which I think is quite rare.
Even though in all of the medical tv shows I've seen there's always a patient with
necrotizing fasciitis so you'd think that it's more common than it actually is.
I also read the book by Atul Gawande that every medical student reads before writing
their personal statement.
I based most of my medical interview on the chapter with necrotizing fasciitis and I basically
just waffled about that case.
So I think necrotizing fasciitis has always been kind of a staple in my medical student
career.
But for the history taking presentation she wrote all of the notes onto this huge A3 size
poster paper and she asked if anyone wanted to take it home and of course me being me
I volunteered myself.
I think I'm going to put it on my wall because it's kind of cute.
It has everything on here.
We've even got an antibody here.
There's also some bits at the end here that are on labs.
ESLR, CRP, white blood cell count, whether neutrophils are raged which is a sign of
infection.
And I think these are anti-extranuclear antibodies.
I've never heard of those in my life.
I think that this would be a good reference sheet to go through at the end of my rheumatology
placement and check that I actually know everything.
But for now I'm going to put this on my wall and I'm going to quiz myself every morning.
That's my plan.
Anyway, I'm at my university's dance studio.
I actually have a dance performance coming up with K-pop society.
I figured I would just come here and do 45 minutes of practice and that will count as
my exercise for the day.
I really love a big open space with a mirror.
There's so much potential.
I just finished practicing.
I'm just going to take a break now.
I think I ran through it about three times.
It only took like 15 minutes to do it three times through.
The piece we're doing actually requires some props.
So once we get our elastics it will start looking less goofy than I was doing it just now.
I'm going to go to the library.
I don't know whether I want to go to IOE which is where I usually study or if I want to spice
things up a bit and go to the senate house because I haven't been to senate house in a while.
But also none of my friends go to senate house.
I know I won't see anyone there.
Is that a good thing?
Will I get more work done if I go to senate house?
Probably.
I bet you guys thought I wouldn't actually put it up but I did.
There's no space in my wall so it's just chilling on my wardrobe for now.
So the biceps tendon is from the shoulder.
I'm wearing my scrubs so that I can actually go to clinics today.
It's 10 minutes past 7.
I'm heading to my 8am class.
I have orthopedic teaching today on the shoulder and elbow.
So I just downloaded some YouTube videos to recap myself on the anatomy of the shoulder and elbow.
And I'm going to watch those on the tube.
We're currently at the sport and exercise clinic.
I haven't been to this building before but it's really fancy inside.
We're just waiting for the doctor to arrive so that we can start our clinic.
I just finished my clinic placement.
It was actually pretty good.
I did like the consultant.
I think that he was a really great doctor.
But was he a great human being?
Questionable.
There was just me and another visiting doctor from abroad.
And the consultant and the doctor were just having a conversation over my head
about how rubbish medical students are nowadays
because they're too focused on getting people's pronouns right.
And I was literally there sat in between them
and they were talking as if I didn't exist.
So that was kind of traumatic.
The consultant said that back in his day
if they were late to a placement
the consultants would make them inject themselves with saline as a punishment.
So I'm glad those days are over.
But anyway, it's a Thursday today
which means that the Bloomsbury Farmers Market was open.
So I managed to get some food from there.
I picked up a chicken tikka masala.
It was amazing the first time I had it.
I asked for extra coriander
but he actually didn't give me that much
which is a bit disappointing.
But it looks good.
It smells good as well.
I'm just going to relax for a bit now.
I need my lunch.
I've got my iPad here just so I can finish off the sign-off for that clinic.
So then at least those four hours that I stayed there
wasn't a complete waste of time.
Who made this?
For confidentiality reasons I'll probably blur this screen
but for every sign-off that you get
you have to write a student reflection.
So what I do is I just put it into ChatGBT
and I basically list all of the things that I did
and some key points of what I learned
and I get ChatGBT to just write me an essay
which I then copy and paste to my portfolio.
And it looks like I've done a lot of reflection
when I really haven't
because I honestly just don't have the time on top of studying
to be reflecting on every clinical placement that I've had.
I just came down to use my locker to change my clothes
because I'm going to go to the gym now.
As you can tell I don't usually go to the gym
because you guys have a full face of makeup.
My cousin is a personal trainer
so he gave me some free gym passes.
So I'm going to use them today.
Ollie!
This is my friend Ollie.
Hi, I'm so happy to see Jess.
It's been like so many months.
How have you been?
I'm alright.
Busy hospital, right?
Yeah. Wait, why are you here?
See you guys!
Bye!
Gotta listen to TWICE.
This is the perfect opportunity to listen to TWICE.
Can't see you.
This one doesn't tell you how many calories you're burning.
But that's good in a way.
They'll walk on their treadmill for so long
and burn up a biscuit worth.
I tried going to the student centre
to study for a bit of a change of scenery
but it was so packed
which was so weird because it's reading week this week.
So I came back to IOE.
I haven't been to Whitty Wing in a while
so I didn't realise that they added these new
padded cell-like sofas.
They're actually really comfortable
so I'm going to sit here and do my last bit of revision.
Honestly I'm quite tired today
so instead of doing any active studying
I'm going to be doing a bit of reading
which I know is the worst way you can revise
but it kind of doesn't take a lot of effort.
The rheumatology consultants at UCL
compile together a textbook
and they say that it's everything that
a fourth year medical student needs to know
for the rheumatology placement.
And it's only around 40 pages
so I reckon that's pretty doable
in one sitting.
Fortunately I get 10 pages in and then I just pass out
but I'm going to try and read as much of this
as I can and annotate it
so that when I go into my rheumatology teaching
it won't be the first time that I'm learning everything.
Guys my popcorn just blew up on this desk.
I'm going to clean it up.
