Taisho Pond is located in the upper reaches of the Azusa River, in the southern part of the Hida Mountains in western Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It was formed in 1915 when lava from the eruption of Mount Yake blocked the river, creating a natural dam lake. Taisho Pond is one of the most iconic scenic spots in Kamikochi. The silhouettes of old trees along the pond, along with the reflections of the Hotaka Mountains and Mount Yake on the water’s surface, create a mesmerizing landscape. Under the vast blue sky, the lush greenery brims with charm and vitality. That pool of fresh green has amazed the passing years and captured the beauty of time.
