So it can be a little bit challenging to figure out how to decorate your house
in January after all of the holidays and I don't know about y'all but to me
January always feels like a dull month. To top it off this year I got a little
bit sick but in today's video I am going to be
adding some decor staples that I can use in the winter
as well as all year round. So if you're here looking for some ideas
on how to style your home for this time of year
then this video is for you. But before I get started I wanted to share with y'all
one of my new favorite products. So I suffer from really dry skin and this
cold weather is making my skin even extra dry and flaky. So to help with
this I decided to try out the Foreo UFO3 and thank you to Foreo for
sponsoring today's video. So let me tell you a little bit about the
UFO3 and why it is my new favorite device.
It is a deep facial hydration device that gives you the benefits of
five spa facials and it increases your skin's
moisture levels by 126% in just two minutes.
It is like no other device that I have seen before and
here is why I love it so much. All right so the first thing is that it has this
t-sonic massage which are like gentle pulsations
that help deliver a soothing facial massage
and it helps boost your skin's radiance. I also love that it has a full
led light spectrum so you can customize your
in-home facial. When you link it to the Foreo app you can take full advantage of
its features and customize your facial to your
personal liking. A part of that customization you can
choose between using it with heat which helps soften the skin and infuse
the mask ingredients into the deep skin layers or you can
choose the chirotherapy or cooling feature
which is great for inflammation and shrinking the appearance of pores
and it provides a firmer looking complexion.
So here because it is so cold outside I am going to choose
the heat feature which y'all I didn't want to take off my skin
because it was so soothing. But let me show you how easy it is to use. The first
thing you're going to do is apply the mask. I went with the
Bulgarian Rose mask. You just insert it into the device and
seal it and then you're going to turn on the
device. You can select one of the eight preset treatments or you can select the
pre-programmed treatment for your Foreo sheet mask on the
app. You can literally already see how much
brighter my skin is. So the Foreo UF3 rarely goes on discount
but if you click the link in my description box below
you will get a 30% discount plus an additional 10%
off for the first 50 people to use the coupon code
MICHELLE10. So right now is the best time to get it
and make your skin look amazing. So the first thing I'm going to do
is try to style this cabinet. I have taken down
all of the Christmas stuff that was in it and the Christmas pictures
next to it. Now I ordered these lights off of Amazon.
They're called picture lights and I actually meant to put them
up above our Christmas pictures but I never got around to doing it. I love
adding little picture lights above either
photos, frames. I've also even seen them above
cabinets but they give the space like such an
architectural cool light element that you can get at an
affordable price. So these are from Amazon and they are
battery operated meaning that I would just have to take
the light off the wall and charge it and put it back on the wall.
These are the easiest opposed to hardwired lights. So I was
looking on Amazon and there was one that was longer. It was a prettier gold
but they were all hardwired lights. So hardwired basically means you can like
add it on to a light switch but you have to have the wiring
already set up in place or you'd have to go and get an electrician to get
the either the light the wires run to the lights unless you're like very handy
and can do it yourself. But anyway I looked for a long time for
these because I wanted the picture lights to have a curved
light. See how like where it actually hangs the light it's curved?
We've had we had some of these in our old house but they were a little bit
more modern looking because everything was completely straight edge. So I
searched a lot to find these and I really like them.
You can turn them on and off through a remote control
and you can have a timer set on them and you can also dim them. So they are
dimmable lights as well. But the first thing I'm going to do is
go ahead and charge them and because it came with chargers
that we have like a hundred million chargers and
next week I'm going to have to go through all of our chargers and organize
them or in the next couple of weeks. So what
I'm also trying to do with my chargers is I found my little Dymo label cutter.
I'm just going to create a quick label real quick and tie
that around the cord so I know what cords go with what
all the stuff that we have. But before I actually hang these up I need to hang up
the pictures first and I need to charge these.
So here are the frames that I'm going to be using to place
on either side of the black shelf. I got these frames at Target and I like
that they are matted. They are size 20 by 30
and the picture insert is an 11 by 14. I initially wanted artwork to go on
either side but I couldn't find any kind of pretty artwork and then I
thought about ordering frames from Smallwoods which I do have our
Smallwood frames in the entryway and I really like
those but they only come in three different frame colors and they're a lot
thicker frames and for this area I wanted some thinner frames. So I'm going
to put hang these up on either side of
this black cabinet and then I'm going to hang
the picture lights above those. So I got a new microphone and I keep
re-recording myself. It's like a podcasting microphone so it's
supposed to sound better but I'm not sure if it if you guys can
even tell at all. But I'm kind of playing around with
decorating the outside of the cabinet first where I'm going to have the
pictures and adding a couple pictures. Those top two pictures are from
Walmart. I have them in our laundry room but I'm just not sure
which route I'm going to go. So what we're going to do next
is rearrange our couch. So we had our couch
set up where the L shape was going like away from the window that way
we would have like the whole window sliding glass doors to feel open
and we thought about keeping it this way but I feel like with the cabinet over
there and then we have our console table
it feels a little crowded. So we're going to
move it back but before we move it back I'm also kind of playing around with
possibly getting a new couch that's not a sectional
that would fit the space better. So we thought about like what if we
just did two long couches along either side and
then we just got two chairs in the middle and then I
decided I didn't like it that way so I don't know we'll have to figure it
out later. This was the way that I was talking
about. I don't know if I like that because we have the table behind there.
I don't know you guys can let me know what you think I should do for the space
or if I should just keep this space with a sectional. So we're
going to move it back to the original way we had it when we moved
in and that kind of helps the lopsidedness
of the room a bit. So moving the couch back in front of the window or the
slider door helps feel like there's more space
over here that's freed up. So the next thing we're going to do
is align the picture lights and the picture frames and go ahead and
hang them. With the picture light it just has this
little metal piece that you screw into the wall
and then that's what you're going to use to
hook the light on. The back of that light right there
it just slides into the wall and then whenever you need to charge it
you just pull it out of the wall again and then
that's how you you take them off to charge them.
But height-wise I wanted them to be exactly
the same height as the cabinet not above or below
so that everything looks even when you're looking at it.
We did mark out the space of the pictures but I couldn't figure out
what height level to hang the pictures so when in doubt just google it it does
say to hang it between six and seven inches above the
picture frame. So we'll just measure about six to seven
inches he'll hold it up I'll take a look at it and then
say yes or no right about that height. So while he is getting all of that set
up I'm kind of playing around a little bit
with adding some height to the cabinet by
adding some decorative pieces above. I could not figure out if I wanted to add
more pictures above or to add pots or other kind of sculptural
decorative pieces so I actually take this off camera
and I play around with it a lot before I figure out
exactly what I want to do. I first use what I already have and I think that I'm
liking putting pots up there opposed to
pictures because I will have the pictures on the side. But you guys
let me know in the comments what you think.
I do have the picture set up pretty close to the cabinet and the reason for
this is because the pantry door I do not want
it to swing open and knock the light down so
that's why I have them a little closer together.
All right so here's what it looks like so
far. The next thing I need to do is get some pictures in here and I was
going through my favorite magazine and I became obsessed with these
plants. I did not realize that if you have an
iPhone you can take a picture of a plant and it'll tell you
exactly what kind of plant it is. So our house doesn't sell these plants it was
just like a background decoration. So it our app well one of my friends
actually did this for me said that it was a yucca plant and
Chris ended up going to Lowe's and was like here's your yucca
plants do you want these? He took a picture of them and he sent them to me
and I'm like yes I want these. It doesn't have the
cool swirly tree trunk design. I have no idea where they got these
in that picture. If you know then leave me a comment let me know
if you have ever seen those plants before that has the cool swirly trunk.
But anyway these are real plants. I know that I
have a fake olive tree in my living room that I love. It's 10
feet tall but I get comments that are like I
can't believe you have a fake plant in your house and I'm like well I don't
have a 10 foot tree in my house. I don't think I'd be able to keep it
alive but these are real plants and I am going to
put them in these pots. I need to get different pots. I need to
raise them up and get different pots but for now
just note that those are going to go in there and I need to adjust them.
My goal is to add more real plants in our house
and that's also something that is always trending
is house plants. It never goes out of style and
they look super cool. Next I headed over to Walgreens and I'm going to
fill in some pictures. Now I purposely for our Christmas photos I purposely
dressed us all in like a sage green color to go with the theme of our house
so that I could hang these pictures and they would match our green decor.
So a couple of weeks ago I took a class on Skillshare about
styling your home and the difference between
styling your home opposed to decorating your home
is that or at least what she said was that decorating
is more about functionality whereas styling
is more about feeling and the way that the space makes you feel.
She said that the space should tell a story
about you or whatever story you want it to tell.
So when decorating this space I wanted it to be
full of like little intricate items that really told a story about our
family. So when styling the bookshelf which
bookshelves can be so hard I mean some people make it look so
easy but it's like I don't know what groups together that
makes it look good together. So whenever I was picking out things
I'll show you guys in a minute what I went shopping for and what I got.
I thought about it a bit differently. I just thought about it
as far as when I looked at this item how did it make me feel
and does it really go with my earthy theme of the home. So now I have both of
the pictures hung. I have our family photos in them. I have
the picture lights hung and charged and lit up and
I think that it turned out really good. Let me know what you guys
think in the comments. I also headed over to HomeGoods
and I found a set of these three picture frames.
I wasn't one of them was broke so I asked if
they had a different one. They didn't have a different one so she marked it
down for me. So I got all three of those picture frames
and I was actually going to hang these
in the kitchen cabinets but instead I think that I might use them in
the actual bookshelf. I don't see people put like a bunch of
flat frames in their bookshelf so we'll see how this looks.
sounds coming up like the day before you're like a stone on my pillow
don't make a sound when i shut the door
enough to wake up yeah we can spend all day
with the tv in the room
we'll order in a bunch of food i'll put your favorite
music on all the way
eat one single thing you don't know how much i want you
just looking at you makes my whole world spin
all right so i have the whole cabinet cleaned out
i made a couple of trips to the store and i'm going to show you guys
what i'm going to use to fill the cabinets so first obviously
are the picture frames that i just got and filled
with the kids photos and i'm going to use
a couple of books that i got on amazon i've had these and they're basically
just blank books i like that they have paper
in them in case i ever want to use them later
on as a journal i also have been seeing a lot
like bowls i actually got this at cole's
it reminds me of like a shape of a flower
and i also got the idea to fill it up with
a bunch of different rocks so i got these rocks
at hobby lobby and i will use that to fill it up
i got this cool seashell sculpture like object at one of our
local garden stores and along with that i also got
this air plant so this is a real plant that is just grows in the air
i have to figure out how to um take care of it
next at home goods i loved like emerald green
anything earthy and green anything stone like
are items that i'm going for uh this item is from
hobby lobby i mean the owl is from hobby lobby
i thought he was super cute owls represent wisdom
so i just wanted to kind of bring that in and
this beautiful decorative bowl i love the flowery shape
of it again i'm going for short objects that i can use uh taller
objects i can use and anything that has any type of cool
sculpture like so i went for a lot of stone items as well as like marbly items
and anything that that felt earthy to me these like little
chain things i had those in my old house so i just
pulled them out of um my my this dash i already had
this is one of my other air plants um again i think you just scored it with
water but i'm gonna have to figure out or if you know how to take
care of air plants then leave me a comment
let me know what you do do you put them in water or do you just squirt them with
water and then this container here is from
home goods it was taller so it gave me some hype
and it had like a marble texture so i really
liked that because my cabinet is also black
i noticed that i needed a bit of some lighter objects to go in the cabinet so
that you can easily see them next i am adding to that wood
kind of earthy theme with a smaller picture frame
i have this really pretty earthy crystal and then i'm going to use these books
that i got from hobby lobby to either stack things on top in case i
do need to create some more height or i can
have them upright which also gives it some hype
and then the last thing that i bought were these
cute frames that just have pictures of greenery like i keep saying i'm adding
more plants more earth tones because we just
have this beautiful view outside that is all green
i whenever we moved into this house i just wanted to bring
all of that inside so it's almost like you're not
leaving the outdoors these pots and these
stems those i already had but that pot is from
home goods the stem was from hobby lobby and i'm just going to incorporate a
couple little items i already had in here so
lots of pots lots of plants some architectural items
some books and then anything that just caught my eye
so the first thing we're going to do is decorate
the top here and then i'll work my way into the cabinets
if you like pots like i do don't forget to look at your local garden
store because they have some really cool pots i
assume they would have some really cool pots
like i got this one at our local garden store so it's like
unique different and they also can be pretty affordable than if you're trying
to find like a more decorative pot so just something to remember but let's get
started styling this cabinet
because i've been running around in circles screaming out your name
take me to a different place
just the two of us and we can stay up all night
kissing under street lights doing what we want to
do what we need to do staying up all night
everything is all right i want to be with you
i want to be with you let me be that someone who can hold your hand
so it's a little hard to see with the glare and i was a little hesitant
because this the top shelf is the only shelf
that would fit these picture frames the other bottom
shelves are a bit shorter so but i think that it looks good
because it all kind of ties in together
i didn't think i'd make it without you by my side
let me feel your love again just the two of us and we could stay up
all night kissing under street lights
doing what we want to do what we need to do
staying up all night everything is all right
oh i want to be with you i want to be with you
let me be that someone who can hold your hand
so my key here is to make sure that everything is not
like all stacked on to one another so from the first shelf to the next
shelf i have the items a bit staggered so they don't look like
they're all on top of each other and i also have different heights so if
i have something that is a bit taller the next to it i'm going to do have
something that is a little bit less tall now
whenever i was taking the styling class one of the things she addressed
was what are some of the things that you should
be splurging on and what are some of the items that you should save money on
she said that a lot of people think that oh because you use your couch the most
then you should really be splurging on that but she said that's
not really true that that shouldn't be the
case unless you want to so i kind of agree
with her on that but what she recommended was you
should be splurging on items that will really be a conversational piece
and this could be different for everyone so for some people who are
really into like extravagant artwork it could be
a piece of artwork that is people are going to walk in
and be like really start up a conversation
so i did think that was a good piece of advice
but now i'm going to add some of these rocks
into this bowl just to make it a little bit more unique than
just having like a bunch of empty bowls around
so i think that i love the way that this
shelf turned out it feels like i can use it for
every season and it definitely is the look that i was going for
you know me better than anyone that's how i know
this is forever
regrets
so the next empty space that i need to work on is filling
in all of these empty glass cabinets on our kitchen
once i took all of the christmas decor down i really had nothing to replace it
with so on my home goods and hobby lobby trip
trip i picked up a couple items again to go with my earthy theme so
anything that looks kind of stone distressed if there's greens in it
pots and pictures and anything that i could just work with
all of the pots are actually from hobby lobby
i wished that they were a little bit taller so
i do have to get a couple magazines and raise them up
but the picture frame is from home goods and then the horse heads and
horse sculptures i had that in my other cabinet
but you couldn't see it because it was black on black so
i'm going to put it in the kitchen cabinets
and i'm just going to see what i come up with
anything if i decide not to use well i have some magazines so i can raise up a
couple of things this actually came from my dad it was my
grandfather's picture so i'm going to have that up there as well but anything
i decide not to use i'll just use in my office
cabinets which my office video is coming in
the next two weeks i just have to finish decorating it and then i will release it
so make sure you're subscribed if you're
hey i've been dreaming about you every night i see your clearest day
it's just something about the way you make me feel
because i can't concentrate anytime you're beside me
i can barely breathe i've been thinking about you
and all the words that i'm gonna say the next time that i see your pretty face
because i can't concentrate anytime you're beside me
it's what you, it's what you do to me
making my skin in circles
so just quit my job, stop wasting time spending my days with you
it's what you do, it's what you do
i can see you in front of me for my inside cabinets i wanted to
incorporate some more like smaller house plants in
here but because i don't know the season i
feel like i can't find a ton of house plants and i haven't really
looked to be honest with you but this cool
little plant i got from target it was just
sitting out and i thought the vase was just super unique
so i didn't really mean to put it up here but for now i'm just going to
set it up here and see what it looks like
but here's the kitchen styled so far thank you guys
so much for watching i hope that you enjoyed today's video
and got a few ideas but if you're not subscribed already i would
love for you to subscribe and i will see y'all in next week's video
