Aryna Sabalenka's 2025 Season (So Far)

A routine yet still impressive week for the world number one, Irina Sabalenka, who missed out 12 months ago, beaten in the final by Elena Rybakina. She is yet to drop a set this week and is the overwhelming favourite in this final. Stunning return, that one's even better. What a way to bring up championship point. The world number one triumphs yet again. She did it the hard way this time. Fantastic performance from her opponent, but Irina Sabalenka claims the title in Brisbane. The one that got away in 2024 is hers in 2025 from a set down. Oh, what a point from both players. Fantastic stuff. Oh, well done from Sabalenka. Alexandrova almost into the crowd after that, running all over the place. Oh, that's too good from Sabalenka. Oh, unbelievable stuff. She liked that, the smile's back now. And the coaches off their seat. Spectacular shot. I mean, you feel sorry for Guda Medvedeva here, she's a great serve, a brilliant shot, and then you run out of superlatives. Closing out the match in style, Irina Sabalenka. Audacious and perfectly weighted that time. What a way to seal it. Saving the best till last, Irina Sabalenka. A Sabalenka masterclass in tennis paradise, Irina Sabalenka is a finalist. A set away from claiming the title in tennis paradise, Irina Sabalenka. A teenage triumph in tennis paradise. Won't miss that, what a rally, what a point. A fast appearance in the showpiece in Miami as well for Irina Sabalenka, but she will take so much confidence from the way she's got here this week. What is going on out there? Crazy point, but maybe a massive one. Miami belongs to Irina Sabalenka for the first time in her career. The world number one, a champion again for the 19th time against a familiar foe. Jessica Begula had a marathon stint here this week to get to a first final in Florida for her, but there was no way past this woman. A sublime performance from her from start to finish. Didn't see much of that, but committed to the drop shot, pulled it off nicely. How about that? An awesome finish, an awesome match played by the Latvian, Jelena Ostapenko gets her first ever win against Irina Sabalenka, the world number one, very much second best today. Oh, clever, that is what we call a late adjustment and a confident start from the top seed. Oh, goodness me, so effortless, a little flick of the wrist. Oh, and then she finds an angle and that draws a smile. That's a lovely volley. Well done, each on their horse to try to outmaneuver the other and Sabalenka gets the last word. And Irina enters the arena as Sabalenka attempts to pick up her third ever title, where she fell short just three match points a year ago. Oh, Sabalenka, she almost lost her footing and in the process did lose a racket. And I believe that's a blushing Sabalenka. Just got stuck. Yeah, well, she tried to change her momentum off and the racket slipped out of her hand. A second match point. And Irina Sabalenka is campeon de Madrid. The world number one reigns supreme for a third time in the Spanish capital as champion of the Madrid Open. Oh, come on. This is a joke. Oh, you gotta love it. Definitely one of the best match of the tournament. We've had some, but this one has got everything. The world number one wins a late night thrill up in Rome. What a match. They both played magnificent tennis.
