Beauty of calligrapher Wang Xizhi's script endures for over 1,600 years
In 353 AD, the ninth year of the first reign of Emperor Mu in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, known as the "Yonghe era," calligrapher Wang Xizhi wrote the "Lantingji Xu," or the "Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion." It was considered by later generations to be the "Number One Running Script in the World." Since then, calligraphers from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties have greatly admired the work and repeatedly copied, studied and pondered it. In this episode of China Media Group's series "Whispers of the Brush: Classics of Chinese Calligraphy," we take a look at Wang's ancient masterpiece, and savor the beauty of this time-honored #Chineseart form.
