This is PART 1 of our Texas road trip with a travel trailer! We had the best time going to Buc-ee's for the first time, frolicking in bluebonnet fields, bar hopping through Austin, and camping at an incredible olive ranch through Harvest Hosts!
So it wouldn't be a proper Texas road trip without hitting up a Buc-ee's.
If you're from Texas or have been here before, you know all about this infamous travel stop,
gas station, convenience store, it's kind of all of the above.
They have tons of locations all throughout Texas and they're finally expanding out to
like Alabama and Georgia.
Literally this is kind of like a destination in and of itself.
People come to Texas and immediately are like, I need to go to Buc-ee's.
And going in there, it literally is like its own destination.
They have branded everything from the snacks to apparel to bathing suits and sippy cups
for babies.
I mean, it's crazy.
They're known for their beef jerky, their Buc-ee's nuggets, and their gummies.
Dylan's in his happy place.
Gummies.
They look like everything.
Dylan got the brisket sandwich and really loved it because they actually pull the brisket
in front of you.
They homemake their fudge.
It's just, it's so cool.
It's such an experience and if you're in Texas, you cannot not go to a Buc-ee's.
We've been here twice.
There's one about halfway between San Antonio and Austin that is the biggest convenience
store in the world.
I think it's over 50,000 square feet.
It's insane.
And we actually picked up some, oh, they're called beaver nuggets, not Buc-ee's nuggets.
Beaver nuggets.
And they're basically like, well, I haven't tried them yet, but I'm going to try them.
So yeah, we got these.
We got some gummies.
Um, I don't eat meat, but Dylan is eating the meat from there.
We're going to do a little taste test of the Intimus beaver nuggets.
I've heard they're super sweet.
Alright.
That's what they look like.
They feel like a very light, crunchy cornflake.
Oh, that's actually so good.
Oh!
I have one.
It's so sugary!
Oh, it's like, um, it's like kettle popcorn.
It's kind of like Captain Crunch a little.
That's exactly what it tastes like.
I want to eat this like cereal.
It's Captain Crunch without the milk.
It's really good.
Mmm!
I approve.
This is dessert.
I second this.
Yeah.
It's so good.
Alright.
We need to be conservative with these.
I know.
What's the verdict?
I would say, uh, it's not bad.
10 out of 10 for road style brisket, beef brisket.
True.
It's actually really good.
So we hadn't left Buc-ee's for more than 5 minutes and we were driving along and we see
all of these cars parked on the side of the highway and this beautiful flower field and
all of these people are like frolicking around in the flowers so we're like, we're stopping
and we're exploring.
So, let's go see what this place has got.
Oh!
Do it, do it, do it!
These are thorns.
Do not go that side.
That's thorns.
Where?
I don't know why she's attempting to do this.
Because I'm awesome.
K?
No harm, no foul.
Here we go.
What do you think?
This way.
Ha!
Flicking!
Oh, they smell really good.
Oh my gosh!
Okay, they actually smell so good.
Am I allowed to pick them?
Well, there's a lot of them.
Is that allowed?
They're wildflowers.
And we...
Our basil died.
We need some color in the RV.
This is so pretty!
Morning.
Morning, Del.
Good.
Oh my god, it's so pretty.
So we're at Del's Favorite, which is an olive ranch right outside of Austin, Texas.
It's in Elgin, Texas.
And we got here last night.
We booked it through Harvest Host again.
And Frank, who is the owner, greeted us.
He was so sweet, so hospitable, and he showed us all around the olive ranch.
So he took us through the orchard.
So the name Del's Favorite actually came from Renee's grandma, whose name was Del.
Apparently, Frank was her favorite.
And so she kept calling him Del's Favorite, and so when they bought the ranch, they named
it after that.
Well, I definitely want one.
And I want one of these.
Is this...
So you put it in a bowl, and then you put the spice in first, then put the oil on top.
And then that way there, you dip the bread through the oil to the spice.
Be careful how much you put.
Yeah.
Is it...
Okay, is it very salty?
I always...
I love doing bread with olive oil, balsamic, and salt.
Did you design this yourself?
Yes.
You did.
It looks so good.
So they actually planted all of these trees in 2014, and there's about three and a half
acres and over 1,000 olive trees here.
It's really incredible.
Obviously, it's not in season right now.
They harvest in the fall typically, so they should start blooming soon-ish.
It's April right now, so soon they'll probably start.
But yeah, we spent the night here and woke up this morning to a beautiful sunrise.
I went on a walk, and I came across a bunch of cows, and it was so cool.
This is insane.
I was just on a walk, and they're all here.
And yeah, we're leaving now, sadly.
With Harvest Host, you can only stay 24 hours.
But we were able to hook up to Electric for five bucks and supported their local business.
So definitely check them out.
I'm pretty sure they do ship throughout the US.
So if you want to order some of their olive oil, it's so good.
And yeah, I'll put the link to their website below.
So definitely go support them.
So now we are going to head into Austin for a fun Sunday-Funday day of brunch and canoeing.
So I'm very excited about that.
So yeah, let's go.
All right, we're at Cracker Barrel, and we're literally getting the last spot.
It's so busy because it's a Sunday, and we need to park here because we're going to Austin.
You're good.
Keep coming.
Turn a little more.
All right, straighten it out.
All right, successful.
Trailer is secured.
Now we're off to Austin, baby.
All right.
Yeah, we decided we both wanted the dirt, so let's try it.
Yeah.
It's so good.
