Before the Centennial School Board introduced its finalist for superintendent on Thursday night, community members protested the choice of Dr. Abram Lucabaugh.
"We are simply here trying to do the best and make the best decisions for all of the students of Centennial School District," said Nancy Pontius, of the Concerned Citizens of Centennial School District group.
Pontius was one of several community members to express concerns about Dr. Lucabaugh before Thursday's meeting at Log College Middle School.
In Bucks County, the Centennial School
District is a step closer to officially
naming its next superintendent, but not
without push back. Tonight, community
members raised their concerns about the
candidates's past. Action News reporter
Caroline Gagan joins us live from
Warminster with more. And Caroline, a
final vote is expected next week.
Yeah, Rick, that final vote is expected
next Tuesday on the hiring of Dr. Abram
Lucab. Community members who came to to
tonight's meeting say they're concerned
about his past with the Central Bucks
School District. But he said during this
meeting tonight that any problems that
happened during his reign there were not
his fault, but instead were the fault of
the school board. Inside Log College
Middle School tonight, this sign
welcomed Dr. Abram Lucab to the
Centennial School District. Just outside
of the building, parents held these
signs as they voiced their concerns. We
are simply here trying to do the best
and make the best decisions for all of
the students. These parents don't
believe Luca is the right person to lead
the district. Tonight, he was introduced
as the finalist for the job. He was then
asked questions submitted by community
members who were curious about his
departure from the superintendent job at
Central Bucks just days after the school
board there changed hands from
Republican to Democrat. They were so dug
in and so entrenched in their political
beliefs that I found it almost
impossible to effectively work in a
role. During his reign at Central Bucks,
the ACLU filed a federal complaint
against the district alleging
discrimination against LGBTQ plus
students. When asked tonight, Lucab
placed blame on the Central Bucks School
Board, saying there would be no
discrimination at Centennial. when
policy was passed in Central Bucks and
it was my responsibility to implement
policy, I did become the face of that
policy. Everything that um Dr.
Lucabal needed to get out, he did. But
some in the crowd, including at least
two school board members, say they were
concerned about the fact Dr. Lucabal was
given the questions before tonight's
meeting, giving him time to prepare.
That's not an open forum. You go for an
interview, you sit there, they ask the
questions, you don't know what they are.
Those two school board members tell me
at this point they believe the school
board is divided on this topic. Again, a
vote on this issue is set for next
Tuesday. We are live tonight in Warman,
Caroline Gogan, Channel 6 Action News.
Rick. All right, Caroline, thank
