REAL MADRID ✦ Road to Victory - 2014

It was a long, it was a frustrating night, they had to wait until the 93rd minute to rescue the game. But in extra time, Real Madrid have pulled away to beat their city rivals. I think his went in. There's Isco, in space, Isco deflected! And Real Madrid hit the front, they have silenced Galatasaray. And it's Isco, the jewel in the crown, Galatasaray. And it's Karim Benzema who is in for the kill. Galatasaray were opened up, and Real Madrid took full advantage. Di Maria is in, Angel Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo is in the centre, likewise Isco. Cristiano Ronaldo, they got there in the end. 3-0 to Real Madrid. Plenty forward here, kept up by Muslera, Ronaldo! It's a foul for Real Madrid, this is how to make a statement in the Champions League. What can you say, what a delivery. My fancy is hat-trick here, Ronaldo, sees up Benzema. Real Madrid are making plenty of noise on the opening night of the Champions League. Amrabat. Galatasaray looking for a consolation, and they have a consolation. Umit Bullock with the goal, and they make their presence felt, finally, in Istanbul. Cristiano Ronaldo, great feet. Cristiano Ronaldo, that is stunning! Absolutely stunning. He is still the man, Cristiano Ronaldo, for Real Madrid. What a goal that was, there was still a lot of work to be done. Goals. Super play, this is a place to play now, it's a lovely combination between... Ronaldo in the way! Contribution to Ronaldo's second goal. Look at this run, Cristiano Ronaldo's offside, and as he comes inside the defender... For the fourth goal. The defence has gone to sleep. There is goal four. Second of the night for the excellent Di Maria. Group stages, knockout stages from the group stages. Quedera inside. Little teaser looking for Di Maria. Di Maria cuts it in. Ronaldo... Cuts it in! Time seems to stand still as Cristiano Ronaldo bobbled Real Madrid into a fifth-minute lead. It's a dream start, it really is a dream start. Plenty of space on the right-hand side. Got the header on goal, and yes! The scrap is put away by Llorente. The Spanish international scores against the Spanish giants. Ramos looks at the assistant behind the goal, claiming that he had been pulled back, and the referee... It's Cristiano Ronaldo, who's at it again. Ronaldo 2, Real Madrid 2, Juventus 1. 57 Champions League goals, but more importantly, Llorente. To Tevez. Tevez feeding Pogba. Ooh, it's a big goal for Howard Webb. Penalty. I'm not sure about that one. In the Champions League season, he keeps his nerve. And nicks Juventus ahead. Now bends him up. Alonso with him. Ronaldo is the better option. Ronaldo! Makes Juventus pay for their mistake. Oh, that's a poor mistake by Martin Cathares. Goodness me, we said about the mistakes in the first half. Little tease of a bail. Bail onto that left foot, brilliant! Brilliant bail! He's more than settling into Real Madrid life. He's creating goals, he's scoring goals, he's making them for Ronaldo. Ronaldo's made that one for him. Between defenders and goalkeeper. Oh, dreadful defending. And Llorente picks up the pieces. The Spanish international striker scores against the Spanish giants. Di Maria passes to Arbiloa. Alvaro Arbiloa, who jumped out of the back of the defenders, leads his team forward for the second time. He passes the ball to Isco. Isco! 4-1. Of course, there was a bit of luck here, but Isco did a great job in the penalty area. Let's see what Modric is asking for. There's a bit more in the back. There's Modric. Good cross from Modric. He shoots with his right foot. Marcelo, Pepe, Pepe, Cristiano. Isco! Cristiano Ronaldo! Real Madrid's second goal. There he is in his fluorescent yellow boots. Cutting inside. Plays the 1-2. Chance for Benzema. Brilliantly taken. Concise. And to the point from Real Madrid. Gareth Bale picking it up, coming inside. Lovely combination of 1-2s. Left foot. We know what could come next if they don't close him down. Bale enters the area. Bale! Brilliant. Living up to his reputation as the world's costliest player. And then this clever little outside hook passed to Gareth Bale. And he goes to shape the shoot. Cuts inside. Santana. Ronaldo dazzles the defender. And deceives the keeper. And gets his goal. Arrogance personified. Denberry put to bed. Lovely ball from Gareth Bale. 1-1 Ronaldo. You don't want that. In 15 games. There's Benzema. There's another goal. My goodness. It's so easy for Real Madrid. They're just picking Schalke apart. Plays it to Ronaldo. Gets it back again. Tight angle. Sticks in the bottom corner. That's his 20th goal of the season. He's playing really well. We're both saying how sharp he's looked. Ramos hits it early. Goalkeeper's committed himself. Big mistake. It's five. And it's Gareth Bale again. Double trouble from Gareth Bale. Takes control. Looks for up. And then bang. Sends the pass. He's onside. Super pass for Gareth Bale. Left foot. There you go. This is easy. Giving it away cheaply. There they go. It's Ronaldo. Into the area. Around the goalkeeper. Unstoppable. For the second time this season, Real Madrid be very, very afraid of this team. Oh, I still think they haven't picked yet. But great play from Karim Benzema to win the ball back. In the closing few seconds here. Oh, do they? The best goal of the night. Wow. Close your eyes and pretend that Real haven't scored the six, because Hunter-Lars... I think the buzzword these days is group of players. It's a good skill. This is Morata. Beautiful. Bale, Bale in. And they walk in another one. Another for the Cristiano collection. And another assist for Gareth Bale. Well played, Morata. Super piece of skill on the edge of the box. And then he found that pass. Lukac thinks about the shot. Took a deflection. And Casillas can only stand and stare. Massive deflection, Rob. Brilliant run this from Ronaldo. Touched the game beyond doubt. Individually brilliant. A class above Cristiano Ronaldo. They're seeking another goal. It's Morata, it's Ronaldo! Oh, dear. It's not over yet. Morata, yes, he gets his goal. And off goes Morata. Save from the keeper. Great save. Then Ronaldo off the underside of the bar. And Bale, so himself, he squares it. Another assist for him. What a save from Ralph Farman. Gets the right hand, though. He makes a save, then off. Real Madrid looking good. Cristiano Ronaldo in scintillating form. Two goals tonight, taking his Champions League title. Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo. Testing Weidenfeller. And it was a tester, bouncing just in front of him. Getting a little bit of stick off their own fans. This is looking good. It's looking very good. And that is an ideal start. Gareth Bale scies through the Dortmund defence. And gives Carlo Ancelotti's side the lead. Well, that's great quick feed from Gareth Bale. Because he takes the touch. And before the keeper, Weidenfeller's out. He's just so poked it past him. It is a Ronaldo free kick. It's dipping, but it's touched over by Weidenfeller. Well, there's a decent stop. It's a perfect range, really, to get the pace and the dip. Contrao. Ronaldo. Well, it's looking like it's going to be a long evening. They had a chance to run it out there. But they're giving it to Isco, who rolls in number two. Dortmund paying a heavy price for failing to clear. And Isco extending Real Madrid's superiority. Bale gets a chance. And Weidenfeller's able to deny him. Just as he did a little earlier. Cristiano Ronaldo. He's going to go himself in across. Isco, it's... Macias always had the measure of that. Gareth Bale. Gareth Bale tried one with the outside of his boot. Nearly sneaked it past Weidenfeller. Looking a good run. This is Aubameyang. I've got to be honest. That's not the best of strikes from Aubameyang. Ruiz sets him up really well. He doesn't have to break stride. Near post. Isco's in there, too. Benzema. It's over. Right to that dead ball line, you can see. Ronaldo, look. Just a little step over. Gets to the dead ball line. Tries to pick out the pass. Oh, a slip. Capitalised by Modric. Ronaldo. It's three on the night for Real Madrid. It's 14 in the season for Cristiano Ronaldo in this season's Champions League. He's broken through. Ruiz trying to pick out a slip. Mkhitaryan. What's a block? That was by Pepe. Cavanaugh. Benzema. Tipped over by Weidenfeller. Still going, Bale. And he just scoops it over. What an individual goal that would have been. He'll be one of the favourites for the tournament. The talk before the match was of revenge for last season's semifinal defeat. Bale. Benzema. Isco Proud. Blocked by Piszczek. And he's given the penalty. Well, what a huge decision. And that might be the decision that takes this tie away from Dortmund for good. And it's saved by Weidenfeller. Hope still remains for Borussia Dortmund. Do you know what? That might just spur them on. It's a fantastic save because it's a well-struck penalty. Kept it in Lewandowski. Here's Reus. Superb work. Mkhitaryan. A wide, beautiful build-up. Inexplicable finish. Here's Reus. Reus can score. Reus does score. Still work to do. But Borussia Dortmund are on the road to recovery. Well, he takes it ever so well, Reus. Macias is in no man's land. He's really dropped in it by the back pass. And Reus comes in. And can they keep the likes of Gareth Bale out Weidenfeller saves? Reus strikes looking to tee it up for Hummels. What a great ball. Great disguise as well. Mendy giving it straight to Reus. Here's Reus. Chuds it out. Oh, back off the post from Lewandowski. But right-footed by Reus. If the first had them hoping, the second has got them believing. Dortmund 2, Real Madrid 0. The lead is down to just one. Incredible stuff. It's great, great football. He's done superbly well here, Gareth Bale. I do believe he was going for the far post there. He was trying to roll that in the back of the net. But this is what he's got in the locker. Now Benzema could be away here. Weidenfeller in no man's land. Hummels got back and got enough of the ball. Lewandowski. Chuds! Mkhitaryan is saved by Macias. Well, we remember this one. Mkhitaryan, that's three great chances. Benzema. Now Gareth Bale with a chance to finish it. Weidenfeller smothers. Another chance for Mkhitaryan perhaps. Go on, go on, go on. And Casillas is keeping them alive at the moment. Weidenfeller still provides the barrier. Well, the night has been Borussia Dortmund's, but the tie is Real Madrid. A scintillating night of Champions League football in the rain in the Ruhr Valley. Having a lack of character. It's good for him, I'd judge. An early ball in. Ronaldo! That just shows he is human. He knows it. What a miss. Again, incisive from Real Madrid. Robben gets his shot away. He's going to be behind. A block in. And that has managed to get him behind. Boateng. Here's a chance. Here's a shot. His side and Real Madrid steal a mark on their rivals. Cross with a corner. And a header from Bastian Schweinsteiger. Straight at Casillas. Di Maria in towards Ronaldo. And the header is straight at Neuer. He got too much on it, Ronaldo. Ronaldo climbs all the way across to Angel Di Maria. Just see how they're wilting at one end. Di Maria, Ronaldo have had two brilliant chances to make it 2-0 and 3-0. And in these moments you get... Not really cut out by Alaba. And Ronaldo testing Manuel Neuer. He had to get down quickly to deal with that. Goethe. And Moller! Ronaldo looking to get away from Boateng and does. Shovel round by Neuer. He's really testing Neuer. It's that pass in behind Boateng. Went back by Moller. Götze! Triple save from Casillas who hasn't had a great deal to do all night. But does what a good goalkeeper should. Bearing down on them again. Suarez from the angle. Dante beats him. Dante doesn't want to go towards him. Defending his back post. And there goes the final whistle. And there will be plenty of work still for Real Madrid to do. But they've got the advantage. And there we saw Hanchard go. Hanchard's forward ball. That'll be by Neuer after a fashion. Now Gareth Bale's got an opportunity here. Can't hit the target. But he had time to think about it and said himself. Modric with the corner. It's a great header from Sergio Ramos! And Real Madrid take the lead in Munich. And Bayern, they need three goals to keep their hands on the trophy. Invaluable away goal. Ribery trying to turn. It's an effortless goal. It's something for Bayern. Di Maria. Pepe got a flick. And it's in! He's scored twice in four minutes. First Champions League final for 12 years. He may go to loan. Ronaldo! This is far away. He's just going to love this now. Real Madrid counter on Bayern at will. Here's Robben. It's a curling shot. Just very far away. We've seen him score from that kind of position. That kind of range many times before. For attack spells. Trouble here for Bayern Munich. Benzema finding Bale. Gareth Bale. Cristiano Ronaldo. A three-nil Real Madrid. Wow. Unstoppable. Another record falls to Cristiano Ronaldo. 15 goals in a Champions League season. And not even Lionel Messi has managed that. Gives himself a little bit of space here. From Ribery. It's no try. Well handled by Iker Casillas. But that's better. I needed more of that. Good, sir. That's great skill. Very nearly a great goal. Very good skill, wasn't it? Love that. Just dropped it onto his thigh. Then dragged it back. Cross towards Ronaldo. Ronaldo did pretty well against him, actually. Yeah. Kroos. Striking from range. Fairly comfortable for Casillas. That's well hit. It wasn't too far away. Lucky. It was a good hit. Shaved with his right foot, Toni Kroos. It's Ronaldo. Under it. It is the perfect ending to the perfect night. Two for Ronaldo. Four for Real Madrid. Bayern Munich blown away. The European Cup moves back within the reach of Real Madrid. Champions League finalists again after 12 long years. Having already had UEFA Champions League finals between teams from the same country, the 2014 final brought together two teams from the same city as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid went head-to-head in Lisbon. Real were going in search of La Decima. He's still Bale. And he's that close to making Atletico and Thiago pay. Swing it in. Back in by Juan Fran. Godin won the header. And I think that's in. I think that crossed the line. It's a goal. Thiago Godin with the goal for Atletico Madrid. Well, Iker Casillas came for this and didn't get there. Cristiano Ronaldo deflected and Courtois watched that well to punch it over early. Real Garcia. Ronaldo. The frustration so far for... Not really dealt with. Adrian Lopez. Easily could have been two. His cross in. Oh, wonderful chance for Ronaldo. And he could not finish it. Well, Cristiano Ronaldo has to be odds on here, doesn't he? He can use his speed here. He's got the better of Godin. Couldn't find the angle. And that's how it's gone for Real Madrid so far. Modric to swing it in. And Sergio Ramos in the 93rd minute saves Real Madrid. Talk about last gasp. Atletico can scarcely believe it. They had one hand on the trophy. But Sergio Ramos, who got two in the semi-final, second leg against Bayern Munich, has come up with one of the goals of his life there. He's lethal with this sort of thing. He all did his job. Di Maria. Tremendous run from Di Maria. And Gareth Bale! Carlo Ancelotti is the coolest man in Lisbon. Well, it's been some season for Gareth Bale, hasn't it? Di Maria did brilliantly. And Bale. So, look at Marcelo going on and on and on. And this time, scoring. And that surely is it. 3-1. Real Madrid out of the condemned cell. They're on wooden legs now here. Atletico, dispirited, demoralised. And to round it off, there is going to be a penalty for that challenge. Atletico wounds. He does exactly that. It's 4-1. Cristiano Ronaldo has his goal. In the final. Sarcastic applause from Diego Simeone. And you'd have to say Atletico have just lost the plot a little since that Real equaliser. Brilliant. It's over. Real Madrid, on a night of drama in Lisbon, have won the Champions League for a record tenth time. It was a long, it was a frustrating night. They had to wait till the 93rd minute. To rescue the game. But in extra time, Real Madrid have pulled away to beat their city rivals. It looks emphatic.
