What the U.S Air Force just Did Is a Big Solution for SpaceX & Elon after Cali's Gov…
While California state agencies still seem unwilling to accept SpaceX's proposal to increase Falcon 9 rocket launches from 36 to 50 times per year at Vandenberg Air Force Base, the U.S. Air Force - the agency directly managing the launch pads in California - has recently done something astonishing for SpaceX that neither the California government nor anyone else could have anticipated.
They have authorized SpaceX to proceed with expansion plans at Vandenberg Space Force Base, which will double the launch frequency on the West Coast and allow Falcon Heavy rockets to fly from California.
This truly came as a bucket of cold water poured on the California state government, leaving them speechless.
So, why did the US Air Force make such a surprising decision?
How will the California government react to this decision? Keep in mind that they have no fondness for Elon Musk whatsoever.
Let's find out on today's episode of Alpha Tech.

Last week, the U.S. Air Force issued a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), reviewing SpaceX’s proposed modifications to Space Launch Complex 6 (SLC-6) at Vandenberg.
The main points of this request include three key items:
1. Modifying the launch pad to support launches of both Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.
2. Constructing two new landing pads near SLC-6.
3. Increasing SpaceX’s permitted launch frequency from Vandenberg from 50 to 100 launches annually.
Yes, you heard that right not an increase from 36 to 50 Falcon rocket launches, but all the way up to 100 launches. California officials are probably fuming right now, realizing their attempts to restrict SpaceX were not only ineffective but actually backfired SpaceX is now allowed to launch even more than originally proposed.

The conflict between the state of California and SpaceX erupted back in October 2024, when the California Coastal Commission (CCC) rejected a proposal from the U.S. Air Force to increase the annual Falcon 9 launches by SpaceX from 36 to 50 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County. The CCC cited environmental concerns such as sonic booms affecting wildlife and public access to the coastline. They also questioned whether SpaceX's launches mostly commercial Starlink satellites (80–87% being non-military payloads) qualified as federal activities exempt from state permits.
