My first ride in SAND did NOT go well. | S1E19

So, I have absolutely zero sand riding experience Oh god! My journey around the planet begins at North America's most northern drivable point The plan is to ride through Canada and America before crossing over to Europe From there, I'll make my way through the Middle East and Asia After island hopping through Indonesia The end of my journey will be marked by the southernmost point of the South Island I'm calling it the Big Spiral And this is Act 2 to an Alaskan beginning Good morning! Ah, it's a nice day for a motorcycle ride So, I want to do a bit of a trip to Carcross Ah, there they have like a... They call it the desert, but it's just a bit of sand And I'm a bit worried about riding in sand to be honest Because I've never really done it and I'm really kind of, you know, afraid to crash The other thing I want to do is to go to Montana Mountain Which is, it's just a gorgeous, beautiful mountain in Carcross And it's covered in like these old, I think it's silver mines And yeah, it's just like a really interesting place to visit A lot of history there And, it's just a beautiful place So, let's go and do it! Alright, just about ready to go I just wanted to point out my tire So, this is a tire with 5000 kilometers on it And it's not looking so hot And I want to do a bunch of off road stuff today Ah, so we'll see how that goes with the sand and all that, but Ah, I don't know It's not totally done yet, right? Okay, so as you can see, I I moved, I just moved down the road to another little cabin Ah, because the other one was booked out for the day after Got some work done But, uh, yeah, what a beautiful day Yeah, what an amazing day It's much better than when I first arrived in the area And, uh, I kind of waited for this day To do this ride, because, uh I know how beautiful is that top of the mountain And I just wanted to have the weather to match Cause obviously, if it's so cloudy, it's just going to be All, you know, socked in, so Yeah, it's been two days just sitting behind the computer So, I'm pretty keen to get back out on the bike here And left to Carcross Look at all that gravel on the road Oh, I'm going on the wrong side of this median Oops That would explain the gravel Oh, there's all the sands Uh oh I'm a bit worried about the sand It did rain recently, so it should help, but Alright guys, so I have absolutely zero sand riding experience I have no idea how this is going to go And, uh, I don't want to get too far out there and Have to get Get stuck, you know, so Let's see how this goes Okay, not so bad so far Definitely squirming around Oh, god Maybe I should stand up Oh, the front is moving around so much Oh, god I think I gotta relax Oh, god Oh, my god The big hill here Well, not even a big hill, small hill Okay Okay, I'm glad it's rained recently Cause I kind of dug in and got to the more moist stuff, but I feel really out of my comfort zone right now Part of me wants to go back But, uh Let's just go a little more Oh, god Yeah, I'm not making straight lines Other people are making straight lines I have a feeling it's a bit about speed But, oh my god, it's scary Alright, I'm gonna try to do a loop And then I'll see how I feel No bumps Oh, god Almost dropped it Okay I'm a little over my head here guys Okay I'm gonna watch a YouTube video There's gotta be a video about how to ride in the sand, right? Oh, man, I feel like it's a speed thing, but oh, man The front is just going woo woo I might have too much weight in the back How to ride Motorcycle In sand Okay Moto Trek Alright, Dusty says I need to stand up And he says Uh, second gear could be better I've been just using first And just be smooth, be relaxed And steer the bike with the pegs and not the bars A bit like riding in gravel, but Harder Okay, I'm just gonna get down Just go easy on the downhill here Oh, it's still already? Okay Okay, standing up Relaxed Okay I so wanna sit, I so wanna sit Oh, god Yeah, when the front When the front starts to push I'm just like, okay, sit down But you have to get enough speed to keep the front Floating above the surface Shall I try one more lap of this area? Oh, god I feel like it's going better already Oh, god Yeah Okay, that was better for sure Oh, my god Dusty's got the advice Okay Try a little faster Okay Still go easy on the downhill here The bike's just taking me for a ride! The bike is moving so slow, but working so hard, so it's like It's just, you know, not getting enough air to the radiator You can hear the fan going before it stalls It's good practice though, this is really good practice Maybe I'm just gonna back up Oh, god Bike doesn't want to roll so easy I don't have much grip Oh, yeah, my front tire just went through the hole I don't have much Like, uh, you saw the How much knobs I have on the back tire When I showed you this morning, so But obviously it's fun, like once you get used to it, because So many people ride in the sand So I just gotta get used to it, I guess Okay, let's see if I can turn here Nope Oh, now I'm really stuck Okay, I'm just gonna get off the bike and Drop it Drag it around Okay See if I can stand it up Oh, yeah Okay I should be able to go that way now If I can get my leg over the bike There we go Man, my rear tire's not doing anything Unless I hit an especially soft spot Yeah, the tire's not doing anything I'm gonna tip it uphill this time Okay I'm actually wearing like 4 layers right now Because of the I thought it was gonna be cold, because the last couple days were so cold Alright, here we go Time to suffer Okay I think it's time to make my exit Oh, yeah It's hard work It is fun though It's a little easier here Not as deep This is good practice though Ah, a bunch of kids there They're gonna have no problem They're probably superheros Okay Alright, let's head into Car Cross And I believe Yeah, that's Montana Mountain there And that's the one I want to go up to I wonder if this is a good idea Let's have a look A bit sketchy Oh, maybe this is a bad idea
