Braves vs. Red Sox Game Highlights (5/16/25) | MLB Highlights

Red Sox and Braves first of three on a night the Sox unveil new City Connect uniforms the Fenway Greens. We got two lefties on the mound Garrett Croce met of course the former Boston Red Sox star Chris sale. Both these guys are on top of their games right now as good as there are in baseball. So I would imagine if you like strikeouts and weak contact we're going to see a lot of that tonight. So both guys are going to have to be on their game. Garrett Croce four and two and a one ninety three ERA. The Sox are six and three in his nine starts one to pitch put him away the heater at ninety six buzzing it by a white one away. Well that's you love seeing that right for heaters out of the gate swing and misses on it. It's just challenge you. What are you going to do with it and it's by him early swing and a miss the sweeper gets him Riley down and Croce firing out of the gate already two strikeouts the sweeper and changeup has been enormous swing and miss. It's quite frankly doesn't show it all that much when he does break it out the hitters see the reaction one two to Osuna swing and a miss struck him out it's game on Garrett Croce strikes out the side and says Chris Sale it's your baseball. Well the fans here remember Chris Sale fondly big part of that twenty eighteen World Series title team. And even though the last few years here were marred by injuries they welcome him back with open arms first time pitching here in a Braves uniform and I'm sure a lot of emotions for him tonight. Yeah absolutely. And you know how much he loved pitching here you know how much it hurt him personally. He's talked about it where he was hurt the last couple of years and wasn't able to contribute the way he wanted. But certainly had a great time here and in Boston pitching here so let's hope he has a great time tonight. Yeah. And he's going to be on a four straight Raffi Devers next one run it goes check swing strike throw down a second to tag and say Murphy couldn't get him Durant with his 12 stolen base he did not steal one on the road trip and he got a really good slider and one out here in the bottom of the first Devers badly fooled by that pitch way out in front. He does have seven homers deep to left off the bat of Matt Olsen at the wall and it's gone over the monster Olsen with a solo shot to put it up one to nothing. That's a little bit of shell shock I think for everybody. First home run that crochet is allowed this year to a left handed hitter and not surprised it was that guy who's been struggling some at the plate but a great swing there. Here is Sean Murphy one of the great two way catchers in the game. As Sean Murphy gets underneath this deep to left center. Could it be back to back. It could. And it is Olsen and Murphy both over the monster to nothing. And for Murphy it's his eighth of the season. So after striking out three times in the first they come back and go back to back. Crazy game and one down here in the inning to nothing Braves bottom of the third Duran walked in the first inning. Lying shot that's going to settle down on the grass and keep on rolling up against the wall. There goes Duran taking off taking a turn running second on his way to third. He is in there standing up with ease and a board for the second time tonight but this triple comes with one down. This is a big at bat to face in the lefty. I mean sale doesn't give up many extra base hits the lefties. Of course he does what he does and gets on third base here with one out for Rafi three to. And Luxon at the Red Sox. The Red Sox have him at the corners with just one out down by two in the third. Yes sale struck him out with a beauty ninety seven painted on the inside corner. So that leaves it up to Rob Reif Snider check swing runner at first on the run. Nice scoop there. Bobby's gets him in a run down the throw in the tag to get Devers and Atlanta's out of the inning. Red Sox run themselves out of a chance there to nothing. The Braves fourth inning at Fedway Red Sox down to nothing. Well so far he's looked like vintage Chris sale that has not been great news for the Red Sox so far to nothing Atlanta. Sale made the play falling down at least thirty six and he still got it no problem. How about that. Yeah he took a peek up at the big board watch the replay of sure thinking that I just catch that between my feet. Yes you did. Look what I found one down for Carlos Narvaez to a wave and a miss by Narvaez and a strikeout for Chris Sayle. That's now six strikeouts for Sayle two down in the inning. He strikes out Rafaela seven strikeouts for Sayle through five innings against his former team will go to the top of the sixth inning. It is to nothing Braves goes outside of those two homers Croce has been dealing pretty well. Two outs bases empty swinging a mile high pop up around third it's Bregman just waiting for that one to come down and he's got it. It's another one to three inning in ten straight set down. It's back to back singles off Garrett Croce and the Braves have him at first and second with one out here in the seventh Braves have been leading to nothing since the second. They would love to pick up another run or two for some insurance here in the seventh inning. Ground ball to third that is fair Bob and everybody's safe. Bregman knocked it down but could not keep it in the glove and the bases are loaded with one out. So now the bases loaded for Michael Harris. And here we go. This is one of those moments you pay Garrett Croce for pitch out of a jam swing and a miss. Struck him out huge out for the lefty to go on a good cutter away there. He puts away Harris and now comes Stuart Fairchild right hand hitter swing and a miss. He got him. He struck him out. Ninety eight miles an hour to leave them loaded middle of the seven to nothing Atlanta. Eighty two pitches for sale. His season high is one twelve Refs Snyder the batter to two swing and a drive hit him on the wall that went high up. Refs Snyder socks are on the board against sale. Rob loves his lefties and he takes sale on for his third home run of the year. And that brings Fenway alive to down here in the seven left field. This one's hit well it's going to go off the monster and so the home guard is going to delay and then go to second. And the Braves got him with a great throw from Eli White the third man lost on the bases tonight for the Red Sox. And now it's on to the Braves bullpen after the serenade of Sweet Caroline here at Fenway Park baseball Hernandez will come on for Atlanta in the three to walk it to got one man here that an all important leadoff man is on. Hamilton is going to run down for Narvaez and representing the tying run in the bottom of the eight. The Red Sox have a tying run in scoring position. Ground ball and back hands across the diamond with a great throw. And he got by a step. So here's Duran who's had an excellent night to walk a triple and a single day spells two to he got him ninety eight a fast ball that he gets by Jaron Duran. Two away. Yeah that was just a great Mata Mata right there. He threw that ball right by him Raffi tonight for two and one one two punched out to first glove by Olsen. He'll take it to the bag himself. And the Red Sox are shut down in the eighth. They had the tying run in scoring position and days Martinez fired as he walks off the field getting a big out there. We go to the ninth and he will put him on. It's going to be ball for it. So it'll be first and second with two away. And here comes Gorham Bernadino ready and he will make the move to the pen with that huge run in scoring position for Atlanta. And there is a third walk. They have walked him loaded. Well let's gladly accept those gifts. Now if we can't sneak a base hit in here somewhere and get a little cushion. But they get a couple of huge runs. Sox with a lot of work to do but on the night for one Atlanta two away for Trevor story story just trying to get on base and extend the game Trevor going up the middle and I'll get through for a base hit that'll start the run. Bregman looking over his shoulder and now Saunders home that'll make it for two. But Saunders is still kicking. Well we're talking about home runs.
