My girlfriend & I's Go-to hair product. Ditch the plastic packaged commercial products for this natural hair product, perfect for a styling & nourishing the hair. Plus bonus cheese crack recipe with the by product!
This is a homemade, totally natural, three-ingredient hair gel that my girlfriend and I use.
We will never go back to harmful chemical and fragrance-laden plastic package store
hair products ever again. This gel is just three ingredients, it's simple to make,
cost-effective and packed with nutrients that keep the hair healthy.
So I often get asked what I use in my hair. I didn't expect to be asked that but I'm going
to answer it today. I've been on a bit of a journey over the last few years as to the
products that I use on my skin every single day. Hair products, moisturisers. In a recent
video I showed you my new homemade natural moisturiser that nourishes the skin and I
use it pretty much every single day. It feels so good and I feel so great to have ditched
the shop-bought stuff. And it's the same thing for my hair now. I actually started making
my own homemade natural hair styling gel. Prior to that I went through a phase of buying
different products, all packaged in plastic which really grinds my gears. I'm trying my
best to avoid plastic in this plastic world. It is very tough but it's doable. You just
have to invest a little bit of time. But the rewards are great because a lot of these shop-bought
ones are packed full of chemicals. Some not so bad but some, when you do your researching,
not so good for you. And also artificial fragrances too. There's this big movement on the
dangers of artificial fragrances. And I've been told this new phrase recently,
if you wouldn't eat it, why would you put it on your skin? I think that's so important.
Our skin is our biggest organ. We should be nourishing it and only putting on stuff that
is natural and good for it. So that's why I've started ditching the commercial cosmetic products
and making my own homemade one. And this hair styling gel is so simple to make. It is made
with flax seeds, believe it or not. It's not a new recipe. This has been done many, many times
before. But I actually have a extra additional recipe that you can make with the by-product of
making this hair gel. It's so simple. So we're going to get into the hair gel recipe first.
All you've got to do is add about a quarter cup of flax seeds, whole flax seeds to a saucepan
and add around two cups of water. And then we'll bring it to a boil and that's where the magic
happens. So this is the magic I was telling you about. After about four to five minutes
simmering and stirring, you'll start to see it become gelatinous. And that is the hair gel
almost ready. I know it looks a bit weird, the seeds. It looks a bit like frog spawn if I'm
But imagine you had to go to the factory where the commercial hair products are made. You'd have
to get your hazmat suit on. You probably have to have a gas mask on or something crazy because of
the high volume of chemicals and fragrances that they would be using. So this feels so much more
natural to me. So after a few more minutes, once this is starting to be visibly thicker,
I'll strain this whilst hot through my sieve. So now you can see the gel. That is crazy.
Looks a bit weird, I must say, but it's worth it. Right, do not waste those seeds. Very important.
I've got a great recipe to use those up after. Well, there we go. That is the gel. You have to
pass it through the sieve when it's still hot, otherwise it's going to get too thick and you
won't be able to pass it. At this point now, I add a few drops of rosemary essential oil.
Now, we all know how rosemary is great for the hair. So not only is this going to add some
benefits, but it's also going to add a great scent and preserve this for a little bit longer.
Wow, look at that consistency now.
So this smells great now. It looks weird still, but it has thickening up to do in the fridge.
The good thing about flaxseeds, not just have they made this gelatinous and given us the texture and
consistency we need, but they're also high in omega-3s and vitamin E, which is nourishing for
the hair. So this will be good for the scalp and the hair as well. This goes into a few little jars
I put it in and into the fridge. It will store for two to three weeks, maybe a little bit longer
with the rosemary oil in. Now, as I said, this has taken me five minutes to make.
A trip to the shop to buy your already made cosmetic is going to take you, who knows,
half an hour, an hour. And the plastic packaging it comes in, all that stuff is too much energy.
This is very energy efficient. So I'll get this into my fridge now and I'll show you how we use
it after. If you want jars like this, I get them from Pearl and they're offering you guys, my
audience, a discount. So click the link beneath this video to get your hands on jars at a discounted rate.
Now, one of the main reasons I actually make this hair gel is because of the by-product.
You can make amazing cheese crackers or just crackers for dips with the leftover flax seeds.
So what I do is get them into a mixing bowl with a selection of different herbs and spices.
You can choose whatever ones you like. I opt for things like garlic powder, mixed herbs,
chili powder, smoked paprika, a touch of celery salt, and also add some nutritional yeast as well.
So this gets now spread really thinly, as thin as possible, onto some greaseproof paper.
You can either go into a very low temperature oven or in my case I'm going to use my dehydrator
for a couple of hours until it's super crisp. So this jar will be cool enough to use now.
So me and Tia are going to give it a go. Yes, another batch. Oh good, I just ran out. Okay, well perfect timing.
Should we give it a go? Yeah. Well, it looks a bit weird, doesn't it? Smells so good. Smells good, yeah.
Go on, help yourself. Get it in the hair. Hydration, styling, natural. Great, great consistency. Yeah, I love it.
There we go. There is the natural hair gel for all the people asking what I use in my hair.
There it is. Three ingredient hair gel. In our hair. In our hair. She's the hair queen, but
yeah, smells so good. It will last about three weeks in the fridge, but as you know it takes a
few minutes to make, so it's very easy and quick to produce. Make small batches so you're not wasting
and it's good for everyone because it's so natural. So I dropped out of school at age just 16 to become
a chef. I had no plan b whatsoever, just this desire to work with food, work in the kitchens
because that's where I felt I belonged and here I am years later holding something that was just
a thought that has become reality now. This is my new book, Plant to Plate. This book is a way of
seeing food differently, a way of working with nature and not against it. Inside you'll learn
not only how to cook, but my growing tips, fermentation, foraging, herbalism, preservations,
stories from my homestead and how to truly understand ingredients. So it will mean the
absolute world to me if you can support me on this journey by ordering the book. You can pre-order it
now and it's out end of May, early June, so please grab a copy. Hopefully it will transform your
cooking and your connection to food. Thank you. Wow, look at that. It's wafer thin. It's unbelievable.
Shall we crack it? So I just break these up into shards and store them in a jar and they make the
perfect cheese cracker, dip cracker, whatever, or just a little healthy snack. They're so Moorish
and to think that this is just a by-product of making beautiful hair gel naturally, it's great.
These are crackers made from the hair gel flaxseeds. There you go, there's one for you.
Look at their beautiful hair. You should try the flaxseed gel and these crackers. See you
soon, guys. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to get the book. They should all get the book,
shouldn't they? And if you want a signed copy, my lovely mum will send them to you
wherever you are in the world. Bye-bye. Oh, wave to the cameras. I feel so awkward. No, wait, wait, wait, please.
No? Smile. End credits. It's all rolling. They're really delicious. Thank you.
