清明, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, Chinese Memorial Day, Ancestors' Day, the Clear Brightness Festival, or the Pure Brightness Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival where the Chinese people would go visit their ancestral tombs and sweep them and pray for them and pray for their protections on us. In modern China, the festival is for the most parts a celebration and an excuse for people to relax and go outside and enjoy life, especially since the government made it a one day off work national holiday much like the American Memorial Day.

In the past, the holiday was actually viewed to be even more significant compared to modern day China as people back then during the Tang dynasty for example held Qingming as a major festival where family members would gather up and have parties or gatherings or field trips and such. For some, however, who were unfortunate enough to be alone on such an occasion, especially if they were also far from home, must be in quite the gloomy or mayhaps even sorrowful mood. And today, we will look at one such poem on this matter, the very famous Tang dynasty poem named after the festival, 清明.
