Hey, I'm Haley Steinfeld and this is my life in 20 with capital S.
Okay, aside from Sinners, obviously.
What horror movie could you watch 20 times over and not get bored?
My god, if it's a horror film and it's boring, I think we have a bigger issue.
Probably Get Out.
I could watch that over and over again and see something I didn't see the last however many times I've seen it.
It's a lot.
What niche random topic could you talk about for 19 minutes straight without notes?
Okay, I would say newsletters.
I recently started my own newsletter about a year ago.
It's called Bow Society and it was all about like creating a community and a two-way conversation.
And I feel like I'm pretty well versed on the subject.
So probably newsletters would be my niche topic.
Oh, you were 18 when you released your debut single Love Myself.
What's your favorite song you've ever released and what's your least favorite?
Oh my god.
Okay, my favorite song I've ever released.
Probably Coast with my friend Anderson .Paak.
That was some of the most fun I've ever had in a recording session.
And there were quite a few.
I had recorded the song months before I played it for Andy and then we got in the studio separately.
And I got to just witness greatness when he was sitting there writing his verse and recording it.
He's so good at what he does and he takes it very seriously.
But he manages to have a great deal of fun in the process.
So that was a fun time.
I would also say in addition to that, it's not out yet.
Which is why I couldn't say because you're asking me which.
One of our least would be Dangerous.
Which is a new song that I have coming out on the Sinner soundtrack.
That's a pretty good tie with my Coast experience.
It was one of my favorite working with Ludwig in the studio.
And then creating the song for a movie that I'm so proud to be a part of.
And playing a character that has pushed me so much in my life and in my career.
So I'm so grateful to have that opportunity.
I can't wait for you to hear it.
Least favorite?
I can't say.
We're going to skip that.
Your first official IMDB credit was 17 years ago.
Really?
Yeah, back to you.
I'm not 12 anymore.
What role do you get recognized the most for and which performance do you think deserves more love?
Back to you.
That was not easy everyone.
I had a very hard word I had to say.
It was Monongahela.
And I was talking about a river.
The Monongahela River.
If I'm remembering correctly, dear God, I hope I am.
That deserves way more love.
What role do I get recognized most for?
I was shopping recently.
And this very kind person came up to me.
They were a fan of Dickinson.
That show has connected me with so many people.
And it's been some of my favorite interactions with fans.
I don't know.
There was something about that show I think that touched so many people.
It drew them in because it was this fun, interesting, fresh take on Emily Dickinson and her work.
It means so much to people and has stayed with people for so long and has been a part of their lives for so long.
There was sort of a deeper connection to it that I felt I had with people that watch the show.
Give me that one.
What can you remember about your 16th birthday?
I actually had quite a big party for my 16th birthday.
My sweet 16, if you will.
I love a party.
I love a birthday.
I feel like my parties really consist of my family, my cousins, my aunts and uncles, and my parents' friends.
And I feel like that was my 16th birthday.
But there was this crazy cake.
I had an amazing cake that I was on.
It was one of those weird sweet 16 moments that I probably could have done without looking back on it.
But that was a cool thing.
And it was weird because me on the cake was wearing what I was wearing at my party.
I didn't know that anyone knew what I was wearing.
Anyway, I was on my cake.
That was pretty cool.
In 2015, you starred in the sequel to Pitch Perfect.
In your opinion, what is the best movie sequel of all time?
Pitch Perfect 2 really added quite the addition.
Dang, best sequel of all time.
Godfather Part 2?
Oh my God!
That too!
What TV show were you obsessed with at 14?
Oh God.
Everyone, come on.
What was on the Disney Channel?
Oh, Wizards!
Come on!
Oh my God, hands down.
Wizards.
13 is an unlucky number for some.
Do you have any weird superstitions that you always have to do?
I don't.
Do I?
I don't think I do.
I'm not a very superstitious person.
If you could live the life of any other person for 12 hours,
who would you be and why?
I kind of have two answers.
I feel like I have this thought with people
who I just wish I could understand how their mind works
because they're so brilliant.
And I had that moment just about every day
shooting centers with Ryan Coogler.
Although I do feel like I had an understanding of it,
like seeing him work firsthand
and being a part of this vision that he had.
He's brilliant.
But then there's also Martha Stewart.
Would you play Martha Stewart in a biopic?
Not no.
If you had to spend 11 hours trapped in an elevator
with any of your previous co-stars,
who would you pick and why?
That's a long time in a small space.
I'm thinking like, long time, they gotta be funny.
Maybe Woody Harrelson.
He's one of my favorite people I've ever worked with.
It's easy to make small talk in between takes
and setups and whatnot,
but it's not often that you really connect with someone
in those moments because there are so many of them
but they're so quick and you're so focused on
what's at hand that it's tough to quiet the chaos at times
and really connect with people outside of all of it.
And Woody is somebody who I have.
He's a great friend.
I'd be searching for some comic relief
in a situation like that, so I'd go with Woody.
From the Oscars to the Met Gala,
you're a certified fashion icon.
Don't know about that, but I'll take it.
Rank these previous Met Gala red carpet looks out of 10.
This was my very first Met ever.
I had to have been about 15, maybe?
And at the time, I had just done Romeo and Juliet
and it felt very reminiscent of that.
Felt very romantic and simple and beautiful,
but the detail was great.
And it was my first Met.
And Giselle is literally standing behind me
in this red gown and I couldn't get over that.
And it was so funny because I remember being so overwhelmed
at the amount of photos that were taken.
And then I realized, never walk a carpet
at the same time as Giselle.
You will have zero photos.
Rightfully so.
Understandably so.
Oh, right.
That was the point of this.
I'm gonna give her a 10.
Crush the first Met, come on.
Okay, this is one of my favorite Met looks I've ever done.
This is Prabal Gurung.
This was actually my second time at the Met with Prabal.
I loved how different it was from the first look that we did.
I felt like he really understood sort of like who I was
and who I had grown into.
This is definitely a favorite.
I would rate this a 10.
Also, I want to be clear.
I feel like I'm rating these high as, like,
Prabal made a piece of art in all of this.
I'm not looking at this being like, what a 10.
I mean, I'm not not doing that, but just to be clear.
Okay, this was one of my favorite overall looks
but glam moments at a Met.
Also, I felt like it was so perfect for the theme that year.
Camp notes on fashion.
We walked the carpet of the Met with a dress
that said, no photos please.
With a clutch that was a camera.
It's camp if I ever heard of it.
I love this moment so much.
I would go with a 10.
Is that crazy?
Can I do that?
Oh good, okay.
These are all 10s to me.
I appreciate that.
I'd give her all a 10 too.
Wow.
This.
This was also another fun glam moment.
This was my 10th time at the Met Gala.
This dress by Iris Van Herpen was one of the most incredible.
Talk about, again, another piece of art.
The way that this was made was just like beyond me.
I felt like it was the most fragile thing.
However, it wasn't.
It was so wearable, despite how it may look.
It took me 10 minutes to throw a wig on
and bleach my brows and do something really fun and different for me.
So I really enjoyed this and this was a fun,
I remember this was a really fun getting ready moment.
Also, that night was really fun for,
I feel like I lived out a secret dream of mine
of going somewhere undercover
because a lot of people didn't recognize me.
I had had full conversations with people
whose homes I've been in and had dinner with
and they didn't know it was me until the next day,
which, you can learn a lot.
You can learn a lot that way.
I would rate this a 10.
Do you still get starstruck at the Met?
Oh my God.
Do I get starstruck at the Met?
Yeah.
It's like the most insane night to be a part of
because there's just the most talented and creative
and inspiring people from film and television to music, fashion.
Everyone is there in one space,
coming together for a great night of fun
and celebration of the artists that put all of their everything into.
And the exhibit is always incredible to walk through
and it's just a phenomenal event to be a part of.
I'm very lucky I've done it so many times.
You were born in December 1996,
which puts you at the edge of the millennial Gen Z divide.
Do you think you're more millennial or Gen Z?
Selenial is what I am.
What completely irrational thing were you terrified of at the age of eight?
It was getting locked in a room by myself.
That may have to do with having an older brother
who had friends over all the time
and liked to lock me out of a space,
which meant I was locked inside a room.
So, terrified.
Which of the seven deadly sins do you think you're most guilty of?
Gluttony.
Love a cheat day.
If Kate Bishop had to form her own Avengers team,
which six Marvel characters do you think she would choose?
Let's see what you're trying to do here.
I have to go to the next question.
Name five things you can't live without.
My dogs.
Does that count as one?
There's two of them.
That's one, thank God.
Martini and Brando.
My family.
My fiance.
That's family.
No.
My fiance.
This is in no specific order, by the way.
A camera.
Wow, I was going to say a pen, but I did paper.
Pen and paper.
Describe yourself in four words.
Why is this always the hardest thing to do?
Help.
Phone a friend.
Adventurous.
Thoughtful.
Thorough.
Thank you.
Talented.
Come on.
Detail-oriented.
I was going to say that.
Thoughtful.
Meticulous.
Hearing.
Animal lover.
Not bad.
Wow.
You heard it here, people.
Good cook.
Okay?
See, there's this whole misconception that that's not the case.
And we're just going to do a few actions.
I did that right.
Am I doing this right?
Hold on.
The nerves kick in when there's cameras on you and you're trying to cook food.
Okay?
Not all that bad.
Okay, what are your top three songs of all time?
Oh, this has got to be one of the hardest questions.
That's Life.
Frank Sinatra.
The Less I Know the Better.
Tame Impala.
Give Life Back to Music.
Daft Punk.
That was a random, but there we go.
Okay.
Name two things on your bucket list.
Live on a farm with a hundred animals.
Maybe not a hundred, but a lot of animals.
And see the Northern Lights.
Who or what is your one true love?
My fiance.
Yay!
Thank you so much.
Thank you!
