Astronauts just Exposed Truth on Blue Origin New Shepard Issue...
Imagine being called an astronaut… just for spending 11 minutes in space.
No training. No mission objectives. Just a quick joyride.
Meanwhile, another crew trained for months, took real risks, and made history with the first-ever commercial spacewalk — that’s astronaut-level stuff.
That contrast is exactly why Blue Origin’s all-female NS-31 flight has recently stirred up controversy.
So, who really earns the title of astronaut?
Let’s break it all down — right now, on today’s episode of Techmap.

Did you know that the woman who inspires me the most is Sally Ride, the first American woman to travel to space? I’ve always admired how she broke through gender-based barriers in the astronaut selection process, showcasing her technical and professional skills in what was largely a male-dominated field. When she applied to NASA in 1977, women had only recently been allowed to become astronauts. Prior to that, NASA required candidates to be military test pilots—a role that was not open to women at the time. In fact, during Congressional hearings, well-known astronauts like John Glenn and Scott Carpenter argued that women shouldn't be sent to space due to their lack of military flight experience.

But Sally Ride proved them wrong. With a physics degree from Stanford and years of rigorous training, she flew aboard the Challenger shuttle on June 18, 1983, and operated the robotic arm to deploy and retrieve satellites, clearly demonstrating her technical prowess. Later, she played an integral role in NASA’s investigations of the Challenger and Columbia disasters and became a passionate advocate for inspiring young women to pursue careers in science and space exploration. Her journey opened the door for future generations of women in space.
