Farm to Forest: Exploring the Future of Sustainable Farming

Monoculture farming practices pose significant threats to global biodiversity from the extensive clearing and habitat destruction. In recent years, however, regenerative agriculture initiatives have emerged, aiming to mimic the functions of natural ecosystems, enhancing soil health, and fostering biodiversity. In the agricultural landscape of the Atherton Tablelands, we did a comparative study across three sites: a monoculture farm, a regenerative farm, and a native Mabi rainforest as the reference forest. Our goal with this research is to better understand how varying agricultural methods affect biodiversity and whether these methods can maintain a similar level of biodiversity to native ecosystems while sustainably fulfilling human needs.
