Originally composed for bassoonist Jeffrey Keesecker to be premiered at the 2002 IDRS Convention, Eric Ewazen's Concerto for Bassoon and Wind Ensemble is becoming a modern staple of the bassoon repertoire. Here, bassoon soloist Staff Sergeant Randy Fultz performs the concerto's third and fourth movements. The third movement is a plaintive ballad, stretching the bassoonist's use of tone colors, phrasing, and expressive range. The fourth movement is a fast and exciting jig in alternating compound meters, challenging the endurance and finger technique of the performer.
