In the opening round of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson 2025, Scottie Scheffler shot a 29 going out on his way to carding a 10-under 61, good enough for a two-stroke lead over the field heading into Friday.
Puts you in a good position for your second Scotty.
Looks like he's lost this one out to the right.
That's going to be OK though,
just a little further back,
but still safely in the fairway.
A nice place to put from.
And this is on an aggressive line.
Taking it on Scottie Scheffler.
Trying to get this round started.
Already missed a couple of good looks
from 5 feet makes that one happen.
And he's one under.
Scheffler carving it up the right side.
Turning on a nice line too, George.
Good looking shot.
And Scottie Scheffler going deep today.
For this one to go in,
but then you got a par five that's reachable.
You got the short par four six coming up.
Cha-ching Scheffler.
Birdie's on three and four, two under.
Over the hump, but he's really close.
Too far away.
A lot of things, it's fine.
Scotty watching on spot is correct.
And just a little bit of a pull
trying to fade but going to
miss the green to the left.
Now he's got he's got his lob wedge.
I was going to just throw this up in the air.
Let it land with some check.
Pretty straightforward shot and
that's well played there from Scottie.
Made it look so.
Big pot of raising made the right of cup team.
Scheffler, you hear those footsteps?
A chance to keep the momentum
going here for Scottie.
And 320 to that bunker in front.
And as our colleague Mark Emelman would say,
that is as straight as raw spaghetti.
And he's bringing in a little bit lower.
How classy is that from Scheffler?
Quite this close for Scottie
Scheffler just cleaning up for four straight.
The birdie rampage continues for
Scheffler 345 and 64 straight to four under par.
Most looked a little bit like
he was going to do that there,
but he's given this one the full
treatment up the left center,
and this is a beauty.
And that took off when it landed.
Bringing it in high.
Trying to fall right,
but just left of the flag.
PGA TOUR is back in the Lone Star State
in Dallas is own Scottie Scheffler is
off to a fast start outside of his hometown.
5 birdies through 8 holes, 5 under par.
Really driven the ball beautifully
today, giving this one a little lean.
I wanted to get over there too far to
the right and hop in that bunker on him.
That's perfect.
World's number one player on the move,
and then moments ago his
second at the par 5 ninth.
And this was a beauty.
He was staring it down for good reason.
He loved it.
Why wouldn't it less than 5 feet
away for Eagle and a front 929
for the best player on the planet?
And now a moment ago for that
eagle and that 29 Scottie Scheffler
looking to go crazy deep on this
Thursday here in the first round.
This one right?
That fly like it maybe had some mud on.
You know that's the only thing I can
think of it that it was on the bottom
of the ball and I couldn't see it.
Tom, it sure did to me though.
Green to work with kind of blade wide
open trying to flop it on with some spin.
Needs to check.
Oh, it did almost goes in.
So little wrist set on that way back
just allows him to deliver the ball
the same way every single time he can
hit any shot he wants around the grass.
And that is going to keep the momentum going.
It's going to be a pop.
As I said, this is not the easiest
stretch of the golf course, so.
Get through here without any issues and then.
Force. Into the bunkers on
the other side yet today.
In the distance, trying to fade it off.
One time should be perfect.
It's cause there's just no.
There's no run, so the ball
just going to stop right there.
So they can get back on the birdie train here.
He's left it below the hole.
That's going to be a good look.
Get to 8 under par. Tie the lead.
Yeah, you knew it, you knew it.
Sheffler tied for the lead first birdie.
The back nine haven't gone out in 29.
Just a perfect read there outside the right edge.
And with that mallet head putters,
it's stuffed in that back corner.
That's kind of tough to access.
You gotta hit a really good shot
narrow back there and this is 9 iron.
Look at two shot.
How good is it going to be?
It's going to be a tap in birdie for
Sheffler and he will get to 9 under par.
That's why they are there watching today.
Chance to potentially get into
double digits under par for the day.
You can 30 this and the 18th.
This one really close to going in.
That would be a fun night, Tom.
Certainly would this to take
the lead at 9 under par.
What a day for Scotty Sheffler
and he's gonna have so much support.
It just so much energy with
this group to begin with.
It's good.
Trying to play a big slice good line.
Well, may Johnson jump out of
his chair just a little.
Had to be on. Had to be on his mind a little bit.
Did he forget the speed?
Just breaking off on that low side.
It really hard to get yourself to
commit that ball way out to the left,
but still really nice putt.
Good speed and a heck of around here.
A day for Scotty Sheffler,
the world's number one player,
has the lead all to himself by
two after an opening round 61.
