Hey my fellow thrifters! In this video I'm going to be talking about five
things that I don't leave behind at thrift stores, even when I am out of town. This is
proof of it. I'm in Denver at this, I think we went to two different thrift stores here,
and we went and bought another suitcase to be able to carry home the treasures that we found
when we were out thrifting in Denver, Colorado. We flew on Southwest, so we were able to have
two suitcases checked for free. We packed all our stuff in one, and then here at the Goodwill I found
a nice red suitcase. I think it was five dollars, and we were able to pack all of our goodies that
we found in Denver. So I'm going to talk about the things I definitely did not leave behind
at these thrift stores, and also the things like kind of my strategy for what I decided to bring
home and what I decided to leave behind. You probably can guess what kinds of things I would
not want to pack in a suitcase going on an airplane, but let's get started.
If you are new here, I'd like to welcome you to my channel. I am a full-time reseller. I buy things
at garage sales and thrift stores to flip on eBay, Etsy, and lots of other platforms to support my
family. And so if you are interested in learning how to make money online flipping things, then
this is the channel for you. So make sure you hit that subscribe button and the bell so you're
notified when I put out new videos or when we go live. So I do check the jewelry counter because
I like to sell jewelry. And it again, being something that we are going to be traveling with,
would be something pretty easy to pack. It's small, but there was no jewelry, no jewelry jars.
And I have in the past bought jewelry jars when I was traveling, and what I did was just empty
them into gallon bags so I didn't pack the glass jars. The next section I'm really looking through
are the hats because hats are one area that they're pretty small. You can usually get them for
a good, you know, not usually too expensive. They're pretty easy to store and ship at home as well.
And so let's see what kind of hats we find. As I watched back this video, I realized I was being
very, um, what's the word I'm looking for? I was really trying to save real estate in the bag.
And so I was really being choosy about which things I decide to buy. So some of these hats
that I'm looking through here, I don't end up buying, so I'll tell you which ones I do.
The one I, I feel like there were a couple of them here that I probably, like this one, I didn't end
up getting, but I feel like it might have been an okay one to pick up. A lot of people like disc golf
a lot and they may have traveled to, you just never know. You just never, never know. So these
ones might have been a pretty good pick. So the one I do end up picking up and taking home is
this one that's a Grateful Dead style. I don't know exactly if it is Grateful Deads because
they're holding, Grateful Dead I should say, they're holding money bags and I couldn't find
this hat anywhere, but I took pictures and shared on Instagram and it sold before I even got home.
But that being said, lots of Grateful Dead merch is out there that can bring in a really good
profit because when I was searching this, I thought, you know what, I don't really even look
or take a second glance at Grateful Dead stuff. These are some Nikes, there were different colors
that were out there and there were a lots of different Grateful Dead, there were just lots
of sales on these for these Grateful Dead special Nikes. So I thought, well what other Grateful Dead
stuff am I missing out on? So I looked at hats, again, pretty good pick up if you can get them
for the right price. And another area that I don't really look at, well I look, but I don't
really know much about them, are belt buckles. As I was sorting through or just kind of scrolling
through what kind of Grateful Dead merch and memorabilia sells, lots of Grateful Dead belt
buckles were selling for pretty good money. Not always in the thousands, but hundreds on some of
them and even like, you know, even just 20-50 bucks, it's pretty good if you're picking it up for a
dollar or two at a garage sale. So I will definitely be keeping an eye out for Grateful Dead stuff in
the future. And as I said, that hat sold before I ever hit the plane. So I already had somebody
interested in it and it sold, I believe it sold for $30. I might have been able to get more, but I
was pretty happy to make a sale on something I just bought before we even left the store basically.
The next area I start diving into are the shoes. Now shoes are an area that I'm just really
starting to dip my toes into, but I have some brands that I go pick up and I look up, like these
Adidas. I don't end up buying those. There are some lime green Converse that I do end up buying.
I did find some Keens here as well, but I decided to put them back because they were a little more
used than I would have liked them to be. But Keens can be a really good brand to pick up.
Let's see if I show them. So what I do basically is I'm just grabbing stuff or picking up stuff
that I think, you know, you know what, I'm going to take a second look at these and put them in
the cart. So again, you know, shoes, they're going to be pretty easy. They're not going to
break in transit, but they do take up real estate in the bag. So I want to make sure,
there they are right there. I want to make sure that whatever I am picking up are going to be
something that are going to bring a good profit. So Converse, now they don't always bring this big
of a profit, but there are specialized ones that can, like those Valentine ones that have the
little heart peeking out. There's a few different Valentine ones that came out. Those were hot,
hot, hot items. These I do not, I look them up, but they were, maybe they weren't in that bad
shape. But in the moment I was like, I just don't want to like fill the bag too soon. I want to make
sure that I've got space for, for really good stuff. I'm trying to see what the brand is under
there. I didn't recognize that. I probably should have looked it up, but I, I didn't end up looking
those up. So I do bring home the Converse and I think there was another pair of Converse that I
got. It might've been those that were leather. Uh, and I brought those home as well. I believe
that's where I got those. So next up in this thrift store is the knickknack section. As you may have
guessed, like I love picking up luminaries. I love picking up things that like that, like Southwest
style. But I mean, for me to pack a breakable, it better be something magnificent, something that's
going to bring a huge amount of profit because I really, really, really don't want to get something
and have it break in the bag or something that's going to be too crazy heavy. So looking at the
breakables here, I don't really find anything that's jumping out at me. Take a look and see
what you think. If you see, and as I always say, if you see anything in the, that I pass up, please
let me know because that's another way that I end up learning what kinds of things I should be
picking up as well. I love checking this section for journals. I've, I've made some really good
sales on certain brands of journals and blank books from the stationary section. These are
pretty cool, but they were kind of banged up as well. These TV trays probably, you know, if I'd
been at home, I might've just, you know, taken them home and try to fix them up a little bit,
but they didn't. They ended up staying there. All right. So I do check the wallets and the purses.
I don't believe I found anything at this one. I think the other, the other Goodwill, I do.
So again, this is a cool item. I probably would have picked it up if I were at home. This cool
duck did have a crack in it, but, but I was like, well, maybe not, but maybe if I'd been at home,
maybe if the price was right, but let's go ahead and jump over to Goodwill. You guys know how I
like ginger jars as well, but this is another one that I was like, oh, is it going to break on me?
I do put it in the cart because I love selling ginger jars, but I don't end up taking it home.
All right, let's go to Goodwill. Let's hit the second thrift store and see what I pick up from
there to bring home to Austin. All right. Pulling up to the Goodwill straight away, getting the cart
going in. I can tell pretty quickly, this is a nice Goodwill. Everything's pretty organized,
looks nice. And I see straight away the toy section and lots of plush. And immediately I
see tons and tons of Squishmallow. Now Squishmallow can be very, very collectible. There are people
that, like I say, collect them. There are ones that are more scarce than others. So these,
the price was right on most of these. They were only a few bucks a piece. And so I just start
picking up Squishmallows and I am going to show you the ones that I'm picking up here and how
much they are selling for. I mean, they were puppy dogs. So this is one that's a scarce one.
I did not find this one, but this is one to definitely be on the lookout for. It's a black
cat. They do have names. This one's name is Jack and also the size matters. So this one was 16
inches. So this is another one that I've never seen. It's a Scorpion, 12 inch Squishmallow,
$880 on that one. Yeah. Some of these that are, what are they? It's like a Bigfoot or a Yeti or
something. A few of those can sell. This is the burger that I got. So he's selling for 50 bucks.
Just a couple of them sold just recently. This is the little pink poodle that I picked up. It's not
selling for a ton, but then this one, this Corgi named Reginald, this is where I started realizing,
oh, it's got different faces and different bow ties and different accessories and things like
that. So I'm starting to look and see now that even if it's this, you know, particular Corgi
one, the one with the neckerchief might be worth more than some of the others. So I had this one of
the black dog holding the cocoa and this one's worth about 20, 25 bucks. All right. Let's see
which other ones I find. So there's a little ginger cat. I almost get this frog, but again,
I'm like, I don't know this frog. I know the Squishmallow is going to be money. I think I'm
going to leave that behind if I'd been at home. All right. Little Dalmatian Squishmallow. I do
come back for that, but then I see, what is this one? It's a dragonfly. There's a narwhal. I come
back for that. I'm like, you know what? We're going all in. And now I know I'm like, oh, this is going
to fill up the suitcase, but it's, I know there's money here. These are new with tags. They're in
fantastic condition. This one, I mean, I'm going to come back to that one. All right. Little, I thought
this was a cow. It's a horse. That one's a horse. And then I get this one and at first I'm thinking
it's an angry bird, but it's not. Thank goodness for tags. It's one of the Hello Kitty ones.
So my ginger cat, it's only about 18 bucks or so, but still that's a good, like maybe $15 profit.
The little Dustin, the Dalmatian, about 20, 25 bucks. Same thing with the dragonfly. Now,
if you had a bigger size one, same thing with the narwhal. There's different sizes. There's
different colors and some of them definitely sell for way more than others. Here's the little horse.
So there's a sold up for about $18. And then the one that I thought was an angry bird and
thankfully had the tag. It's one of the Sanrio. It's a black penguin for about $15, $20. So some
of them are bigger wins than others, but they're definitely going to sell. They're going to bring
in a good profit. And they, I mean, they almost totally took up the suitcase, but lots of other
things could be wedged in between and they were going to cushion whatever else I bought while we
were out. So the next area that I looked at, I see this little luminary fish. If this was at home,
I would have bought it because I love selling these type of little luminary fish or whatever
animals they are. They always sell for me for pretty good profit. Now I did struggle in this
Goodwill because I saw lots of things that if I had been at home, I would have picked up
some of these figural items. There were some really nice glassware. I thought this was pretty nice,
but I didn't know for sure that it was going to be a good seller. So I left it behind.
This little bell was cute. What else do I see here? Some nice glass pieces as well.
But again, I was just thinking, okay, I'm going to have to find some bubble wrap or some way to
secure this in the suitcase to make sure that it doesn't break. Well, she's got some eyeliner on
that little cherub. Then, oh, I see these tiki mugs down here and these are like from one of
those like Geek Gear type stores. Oh, I'm going to look at it in a second here. So that's pretty
nice. The tiki mugs were like Star Wars or Marvel type ones and they can bring an okay profit kind
of depending on which ones you find. But again, didn't want to pack those in. I didn't think
these were ones that were going to be a higher profit. I have to look that up and see which ones
actually are because I see them from time to time. So it'd be good to know. Just kind of
keep that in the back of your head for what things to bring home.
See, I see more figural items, some nice pieces here. Again, if I'd been at home, maybe I would
have picked it up, but I knew it was going to take up real estate. I wanted to try to find
things that were going to bring in a higher profit. Now this, this is metal. It's not going
to break. It's a nice little, I don't even know what you put in there. I've got to find, do a
little research on it, but I love, love, love picking up stuff like this. So definitely got
that. I still haven't looked it up since our trip. Let's see what else I find up here. That's a nice
little frame too, but again, it's ears chipped. Here, I show you there, the ears chipped. So it
did not come home. And this again, I, you know, I still, now I feel kind of regretful. I probably
should have gotten this cause I don't see gorilla figurines very often. So that might've been one
that might've been a better choice to bring home. This was another one that I kind of wanted to get,
but then it had this made in China on the bottom. I still think somebody would have bought it,
but same deal. Didn't want to ship it home. If I'd been home, I probably would have gone ahead
and pulled the trigger and picked it up and sold it anyway. Here, I see a nice little kind of
art glass vase, which was pretty, but yeah, these are the things I don't want to put in the suitcase
and breakables. I've seen, I've picked up those before and they're not worth as much like the
little half dome snowflake. So that one ended up staying there, but I do find another glass
paperweight. These, this one I did buy. I will happily buy that for $3 and bring it home.
As you can see, there are some that can sell for a lot of money. I'm finding that the millefiori
ones and some that are signed like by different designers can bring a lot, a lot of money in.
The one that I picked up is not one of these, but it's definitely worth, you know, when you're
researching something, go ahead and hit the search to do from highest to lowest as well,
just so you can see what else is out there and what other things you should be looking for while
you're at the thrift stores. So here you can see this one's got the dichroic glass in it and it's
just gorgeous. So they could, I mean, sell anywhere from $40 all the way up into the thousands. So
it's definitely worth taking a look when you see these glass paperweights. So definitely into the
cart it goes. There were some shoes there that you might've seen that I didn't end up bringing
home. They were like size 14 or some big giant size. They were bigger than I, maybe they were
like 16. These penguins were so cute. Uh, again, probably would have brought them home. Maybe I
still should have, cause they're not really breakable, but aren't they cute? I feel like
I should have gotten them. Oh, well, live and learn. They stayed there. I did not bring them
home, but definitely would have brought them home if I'd been here and not thinking about having to
So the next section that I hit, which I normally do is I go look at the mugs because there can be
good money in mugs. However, I didn't find any here willing to pack up and ship back with us.
Again, there's really good money in mugs. If you can find the right ones, it's worth sitting and
learning going through the different mugs in the section. You might be here a minute if this is
your store, but there can be pretty good money in coffee mugs and the prices, you know, if the
price is right, definitely. If that was one of the life is good ones, they can bring pretty good
profit as well. So decided not to go into that. So the next section I hit are the purses and the
wallets because that's something that you can ship very easily and there can be really good money,
especially wallets, purses. Ah, I've got my work cut out for me here. Let's dive in, shall we?
So these kiss lock purses and wallets I've noticed have been selling really well, but they
went to 10 bucks for that one and I really didn't want to spend that much money. I'm really getting
the camera right in there. So I do end up finding a nice Kate Spade. I do get this one as well, this
fanny pack. It's pretty nice. Nice little fanny pack. So I spend some time digging around. I'm
not going to make you watch all of my diggings, but I ended up finding a nice Kate Spade, which
I will show you here in just a second. Oh, that's cute. I think that's one of those like bag, you
can zip around and, and hide it away. So here we go. Nice little Kate Spade. They wanted $8
for it. And I decided, you know, it's a really nice shape. Once I take the sticker off, you know,
and it looks pretty good. There's a little bit of wear on the corners. I throw it back, but I do get
it. I end up grabbing it up again. So you can see here, these Kate Spade wallets can sell anywhere
from, you know, $20 and up. So it's definitely worth taking a peek at the wallet section for,
for just that reason. I hope you enjoyed our trek through the thrift stores and the five
things that I would not leave behind. Even if I'm traveling, leave me a comment. Let me know
something that you definitely pick up. It wouldn't matter if you were traveling, if you're at home,
no matter what, something you pick up down in the comment section. And if you haven't yet hit that
subscribe button and the bell, and I will see you on the next video. Thanks so much for hanging out.
Bye everyone.
