Welcome to my allotment gardening channel. My name is Emma and these vlogs are my allotment diaries. 2025 is is my sixth year on my plot. I'm learning as I go and would love for you to follow my allotment gardening journey by SUBSCRIBING to my channel!
Good morning, guys. Happy Sunday. My
name is Emma. This is my a lotment
gardening channel. Today's vlog is going
to be all about what I've been getting
up to in my home garden. So, I've sort
of filmed some snippets throughout the
week and put them together into this
vlog. So, I really hope you enjoy it.
There's a lot of planting going on.
There's some garden maintenance, um,
some ideas and things for the future,
some garden finds, and a little bit of
creativity as well. So, I hope you enjoy
it and find some inspiration. I hope it
brightens up your Sunday. If you are
enjoying these vlogs, please subscribe
to my channel. Um, give me a like. Let
me know what else you would like to see
from me. And without further ado, we're
going to dive in. There's lots of
mismatch kind of clips. I love watching
vlogs like this. I hope you do, too. Let
me know what you think of it, guys.
This is the rambling rose that I put in
only a couple of weeks ago. Look how
beautifully it's doing. I think it's
called a roselana. I think that's the
name of it. But it's doing so well. It
needs a bit of support now. Also, I'm
not entirely sure how to train it to go
the way I want it to go. Do you know
what I mean? It seems to be coming out
this way. And I don't want it to come
this way. I want it to go that way.
Anyway, I brought some wire and we're
going to try and make a bit of a a
structure for it to climb up.
So, if I put wire
between Oh my gosh, this is like a
slinky. Oh gosh. Oh, I'm going to get it
all tangled on. I can feel it now. I'm
getting it tangled already. How am I
already tangling it? I haven't even
touched the
stuff. Gardening is so fiddly, isn't it?
Right. If we wrap our wire around there
and then run it
across there like that maybe. See,
ideally I'd want to put this wire across
the fence and train it up the fence. I
sort of think maybe a structure slightly
in front of the fence would be better. I
sort of control it a bit more. I don't
know why I think that. I just think it
might be happier. I sort of think this
might be easier to sort of control. That
one's not really doing anything. Should
this one be doing something? Yes,
probably. Maybe they should be behind
that one. Could you go around that way,
mate? Is that okay? Are you going to die
on me now? Are you? So, in terms of how
I get this to grow the way I want it to
grow, do I have to cut off the branches
that are going the wrong way? I really
hope that's not the answer. I really
don't want to cut off like nice growing
branches. Do you know what I mean? But I
also do want it to go up against the
fence. What do you think? Does this seem
too temporary, though? I feel like it's
a bit of a temporary structure, but
hopefully when it gets going onto the
fence, I won't really need to um tie it
anymore. Do you know what I mean? It'll
sort of grow on its own. Anyway, that's
what we've done for now. So, let me know
what you think. Please don't tell me I
need to chop all the branches off. I'll
be so
sad. Right. I have a similar situation
going on with this. This in here, this
is a jasmine. And I dug it up from my
archway cuz it wasn't doing very well.
Now that he's in a pot, he's flying
away. He's going for it. He's growing up
and up, but he needs some sort of
support. And also, I'm not sure this pot
is big enough to keep a hold of him. I
think it might need a bigger pot. Could
I change him up with another pot? Right.
I think what I'm going to do for now is
leave him in that pot cuz he does seem
quite happy in there. Um, and then
transplant him to a bigger pot when I
buy one. And for now, just put some
support in ready to support him as he
gets bigger. That's what we're going to
do. But I'm gonna raise the
pot. I think one of the keys to pots,
and I'm not used to growing in pots.
This is the first year I'm really going
for like growing as much as I can in
pots. But one of the keys is if it's on
a flat surface like a concrete patio,
you have to raise it off the ground so
that water can drain through. because
otherwise when it rains or when you
water them, the water will just sit on
the bottom of the pot like a puddle and
it'll just flood the plant basically.
So, they need to be sort of raised a
little bit. That's pretty much where my
knowledge of pots begins and ends. But,
we're getting there. So, I've got these
hooks that I'm going to put into the
fence and then I'm going to put the wire
between
them.
Of course, the idea of using wire is
that you can tighten it quite easily.
So, if it becomes loose, it's a lot
easier to tighten. Oh, I've done that
really well. I didn't even measure that
across. And actually, it's quite
straight. Quite straight. Not completely
straight. Let's Let's not be silly here.
It's still my
garden. Cross this
here. Right there.
RC, another supported plant. Not in its
ideal part at the moment, but you know
what? I think that's going to work
really well. So, what I'll do is I'll
probably put one more bit of twine in
across here just to make sure that he
trains up it properly. And then what I
could do is if he decides to get big
enough, and I don't know if he will yet,
but if he did decide to get really big,
I could train it right along onto the
back fence there, and it could just be a
whole sort of corner of Jasmine.
Wouldn't that be nice? What do you
think? Would that be nice? Are you going
to grow really big for me? Maybe. You
know, maybe. Like I said, it does seem
to like the pot better than it like like
the ground. And I've got all these
forget me knots in the bottom. Oh, look,
another shoot. I didn't even see you.
Would you mind awfully going that way,
mate? Thank you.
Right. I don't like this pot. I don't
like the color of this pot. I like the
size of it. I like that it's plastic as
well. I don't know why. I just think
it's easy to move around. Um, and it's
quite big as well. So, I like the size
of it, but I don't like the color. So,
I'm going to paint it. I'm going to
paint it with shed paint. I don't even
know if you can do that, but you know
what? I'm going to. So, we'll find out
together. don't really want to waste the
uh the shed paint that I got. It seems
like such a waste. And I also don't like
the color of the pot. It's a bit of a
win-win. Let's give it a mix. It makes
sense to me to paint a pot with shed
paint because it's obviously waterproof,
isn't it? I mean, it's got to be
waterproof. It's
outside. It's got to work. Yeah, it's
got to work.
Hey guys, it's a few days later. Um, I'm
back in the garden. The weather was just
sunny and lovely and it's just clouded
over which is so annoying. I wanted to
show these that I found. So on the way
home from the a lotment I saw somebody
was leaving these outside for anybody to
take for free. So, I picked up two of
these and it's really good quality
trellis and it's free and I was so
excited when I saw them. So, I picked up
two. Like I said, one of them I've
already put up in the garden somewhere.
Um, but let me just show you. Always
love a good freebie and these are such
good quality. So, the guy who was
getting rid of them said that he's had
them in the garden for 15 years and they
are still such excellent quality. So,
the other one I've put here in this
little planter. And I thought cuz I've
got some sweet peas to plant out. Might
put the sweet peas in front of them and
have the sweet peas go up there at the
back of the planter. So, I think we'll
plant those out now. So, this is the
other pot of sweet peas that I got from
the garden center. They are the Spencer
mix as well. $4.99. You get a lot of
them, but they're in desperate need of
going out now. Look at the state of
them. The poor things. So, I think if I
put them along the back here, they'll go
up the trellis. I don't think I need to
secure the trellis. It's quite secure
there at the moment. And I don't think
I'm going to paint it. I was going to,
but I've changed my
mind. I've changed my mind. Look, the
roots have come through the pot now.
They're not happy in here at
all. So, we've really got
to we got to help them out. I'm going to
be a bit ruthless the way that I pull
them apart, I
think, just because I am. Also, they've
all clung on to each other. It's what
happens when you don't plant them out.
for ages. They all cling on to each
other like friends. Come on, guys. Away
from your mates. Away from your mates.
I'm still going to sort of plant them
out in clumps cuz I think there is
safety in
numbers. And my other sweet peas that I
planted out in clumps are all doing
very, very well. So, we're sort of going
to clump them like this. There you are,
mate.
I think I'm going to be brave and also
plant out some of my dailers as well.
So, these are the ones that I got from
Where did I get these from? I think I
got them from an RHS garden center and
they were Yeah, that was it. They were a
coral color and they didn't actually
tell me what variety they were, but I do
recognize them. It's the one with like
the pom poms and then the other one
which is like an open daisy style flower
and the other one's got all the petals.
So, I sort of recognize them, but I
don't know what they're called. I've got
three and they've done really well.
thing is I've already put a dia in this
planter. There's already a dia here
which I dug up from the garden and put
in. And this is pink. It's a really
beautiful pink pink one. But that's
going to be quite big there.
Realistically, in terms of spacing, I
think I could probably only get two more
in
here. Or could I just sort of squish it
up a little bit and have
three? The thing is, days get really
big, don't they? And I want them to get
big. So, I don't know.
I feel like I'm going to put two more in
here. So that' be one, two, three ders
at the back. Sweet peas going up here.
These lovely little flowers at the
front. I don't know what these ones are
called, but these escapers that I
actually grew from a seed. So these are
going to be really nice. Let's put those
in. And then we're going to find another
home for you, mate. Don't worry.
There's a bit of a risk getting the ders
out now. Not just because it's still
quite early for a dalia to go outside.
Though it should be okay. I think mainly
because it's going to rain
tonight. So the slugs will be out. But
you know what? If they can survive that,
they can survive anything. They got
quite good roots.
So I think that means they'll be okay.
Oh, he needs to go a bit deeper than
that. He's a big one. He
is. I sort of hide him in the forget me
knots. Maybe the slugs won't see
him. And then the other thing is that
I've got this sweet corn which actually
germinated quite well and then I
accidentally forgot about and it's half
dyed. And what I thought I would do is
plant it into my little vegetable
planter at home because it's only 1 2 3
4 5 six. That one's probably not going
to make it. So,
six. So, you can see that my spinach at
the front here and my radishes have
germinated really well. And then I
thought some sweet corn at the back
might be really fun. I think it's a
small variety. I think I know you can
grow some sweet corn in
pots. Oh, look at the roots. Look at the
roots on that. He's got some roots. Yes,
he has.
Yeah, I know you can grow some varieties
in pots. So, I just thought why not? Why
not try it in a planter? So, we got six.
So, I'll do one, two, three. One, two,
three. That's what I'll do. Genuinely
have no idea if it'll work in this
planter, but that's part of the fun of
it, I think. And otherwise, I don't know
what I would do with six sweet corns at
the aotment. It's just sort of not
enough, you
know. I'll whack it in here.
There's also a few little baby nesters
that sort of selfseeded in here. And if
they do survive and grow big, that would
be really pretty as well, having some
nesters around all this, which is
supposed to also protect against slugs.
It's a bit of a companion plant. I don't
know if that means that the slugs go for
these over anything else or if it means
they keep them away because I always
find slugs in them. So maybe they sort
of attract the slugs and the slugs go
for these. I don't know. Let me know if
you know why no stersium is a good
deterrent for slugs cuz I can't work it
out really.
Right, once again, it's a few days later
now. It's turning into a bit of a
gardening week vlog, which I quite like,
actually. I like the vibe. Um, this pot
is now dry. What I'm going to do is put
some masking tape on and do some
crisscrosses and then paint it over with
the pink paint, um, which is the paint
from my shed at the aotment. So, I'm
going to use my allotment paint shed on
it as well. So, this is going to be
quite a special pot, I think. Um, so
let's make the pattern. I've never done
this before. I hope it works.
Okay, it's one. Oh
dear. I think we're just going to do
stripes. That's not working. I think
we'll just do stripes on it. Stripes be
nice. You can always change your plan.
Right, we'll just stripe it. Sweet pea
pink. Same color as my shed at the
aotment. Right, it's a few hours later.
The pot has dried and it's time to find
out if my creative idea with the masking
tape has worked. So, let's take the tape
off. What do we think, guys? The yes or
no? Yeah. Okay, let's keep going.
This is great fun. I love doing creative
things like this. I don't normally do
this in the garden. Not normally this
creative, guys,
but it's not perfect, but it's not going
to be. You know, I don't think you're
going to be getting down up close and
like studying the pot. Do you know what
I mean? So, I think this is
actually I think it's worked really
well.
I know it's not perfect and the stripes
aren't all even and some of the paint
has come off, but you know what? I
really like it. That's something that I
just made using a bit of shed paint. I
really, really love it. What do you
think of it? It matches the shed and
everything. Right, let's get it planted
up.
Yes.
brought this pot from TK Maxx. They got
some lovely gardening bits in at the
moment. Really reasonably priced. This
was $6.99 and I saw it and I thought
that is so pretty. It' be really nice on
the table at the back here.
So, when I brought myself some rosemary
um just from the supermarket, from M&S,
I'm going to plant it inside this pot. I
love planting herbs that you get from
the supermarket. Um it's just such a an
easy way of growing on your own food and
also getting more for your money. Often
with supermarket herbs, what they will
do is put loads of plants in one pot.
So, I'm
assuming they sort of do it from a seed,
but you know, sometimes when you buy
like basil in particular, like basil,
chives, parsley, and it's really full
and bushy in a little pot like that.
Normally, it's lots of plants in one
pot, and you can separate them. I think
I'm going to plant this all together.
You see that? How it's two plants that
they stuff into one pot. And it's
because, you know, people use it for
cooking. So, you kind of want as much as
as you can get, but you can pull it
apart and have multiple plants. I'm just
going to plant all of that in one
go. That's going to look really
pretty.
Right. You can probably tell that I've
decided to paint the trelluses the same
color, same color as my shed at the a
lotment plot, which is Sweet Pea by
Cook. Um, and I think it looks really
nice. I did have a bit of a disaster,
though. This did not go without a hitch.
Dropped the paint can out of my hand.
Look, it's gone absolutely everywhere.
All over myself, too. Um, but you know
what? It wouldn't be a gardening job
that I did if it didn't go wrong. So,
everything I do seems to go wrong. But I
still managed to do it somehow. And
that's the point, isn't it? You managed
to do it. Right. I'm going to get this
back up and drill it
in. That's it. That's all I wanted to
do. Stay.
That's it. That looks a lot better
painted like that. I really like that
actually. Um it's not as tall as I
wanted it to be, but you know what? As
soon as I finished with the sweet
piece, I can sort of take it out and
then I can put it long ways or wherever
I want it cuz the whole thing is
painted. I love that.
Hope you enjoyed this little week in the
life of my home garden here in London.
Um, I will be back again on Monday at
the allotment plot and every Sunday as
well. My Sunday vlogs will either be me
in my garden, my home garden here, sort
of snippets throughout the week or it
will be me taking you out somewhere um,
gardening to show you show you some
inspiration. So, I hope you enjoy them.
If you do, please subscribe to my
channel and I will see you again on
Monday. See you tomorrow, guys. Thanks
for watching.
