We show you some truck campers and small travel trailers we checked out at the fall RV Show in Abbotsford, BC, and footage of a bear we saw while hiking in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
Good morning everyone. So we are here at Alice Lake Provincial Park and we're
just here for a quick overnight trip. Yeah we came here actually for two
reasons. One we want to actually winterize our van which is somewhat of a
sad time because then you recognize that the weather is not going to be as great
going forward. We're not going to get out as often. We won't be doing as many
videos and so it's we can still use the van once it's winterized but we'll start
the winterizing process and probably finish it up at our storage lot. And the
other reason we came here was actually to just say hello to our friend Henry
Wang. Henry and his colleagues were here doing a lake cleanup so if you watch
some of our previous videos you know they dive recreational lakes and take
out what is a lot of garbage at times. We wanted to come up here and just offer
some moral support but they'd actually finished by the time we got here. So last
night we did spend a little bit of time around the campfire with them and that
was fun. It's nice to hear some of their stories and we also took the later part
of the day to do a walk around the lake. Nothing nothing significant just a walk
around the lake maybe three kilometers and then took some nice videos as the
Sun came down and we had a little campfire here so it was a really nice
really nice evening and it's been getting get that cold probably about
eight degrees. We're actually plugged in here at these campsites at Alice Lake
actually have electrical plugs. The other thing we wanted to actually include in
the video two other things actually. One we recently went to the Snowbird RV show
in Abbotsford which is which is a smaller version of their spring show and
we looked at campers because we've been giving some consideration to our next
RV maybe being a truck and camper mostly because of the four-wheel drive
capability and a bit better all-season capability and then we looked at small
trailers because we just simply like small trailers so we did actually also
run into the owner of a business that's actually makes vans do-it-yourself vans
I think the slogan is you dream it we build it so we're hoping to do an
interview with him at some point in the next month or two and we'll get to share
that with you and the other thing we just wanted to share in this video was
simply one of our hikes from last week we got up into the mountains for what is
the first snow and snow is maybe about this deep and we were up a little over
5,000 feet and we ran into our first bear of the season which was actually kind of
nice and he was healthy and eating blueberries and frolicking in the snow
so that was kind of fun we haven't seen a bear now and well Mickey saw a little
while ago but I haven't seen a bear in some time so that was just pleasant part
of the experience and first mountains first snow in the mountains is always
really special so we'll hopefully enjoy the little excerpts from both the RV
show and we'll close with just our short hike so here we are at the Abbotsford BC
Tradex for the fall snowbird RV show the first RV we looked at is the 2020
New Camp tab 400 boondock light travel trailer it's a mouthful it's 18 feet 3
inches long and the tank capacities are fresh at 22 gray at 18 and black at 12
gallons and the company is based out of Ohio in the United States so some of the
features includes the dinette which converts into a extra bed the main bed
has the Froli sleep system the individual square spring elements that
help with pressure relief and comfort it has a glass top sink and two burner
propane stove also has a wet bath with a fold-down sink dual pane windows
central air conditioning the Aldi central heat and hot water system a 24
inch TV DVD which is Bluetooth friendly a two-way fridge a spare tire electric
brakes a 1200 watt inverter and two 6-volt batteries the next travel
trailer we looked at was the 2019 Airstream Nest 16u model fiberglass
construction and a three-year transferable limited warranty the
freshwater tank is 24 gallons and it looks like they have a combined gray and
black water tank of 30 gallons it includes a fantastic fan eight windows
and skylights sleeps two people air conditioning a ducted furnace 16,000 BTU
electronic fridge two ways a microwave queen-size bed and it includes two deep
cycle batteries with multi-stage converter two storage compartments on
the exterior a heated underbelly an exterior shower and an awning so we were
really interested this time in checking out some truck campers mainly for the
ability to go off-road and also wanted to check out a few that had four season
capabilities so it would give you the ability to to camp in the wintertime
without having to winterize Northern Light had a couple of truck campers at
the show they use two-piece fiberglass construction and also they have a good
six-year structural warranty on the actual shell itself the rest of the
coach is covered under a one-year manufacturer warranty so Northern Light
is based in Canada in Kelowna BC and the company has been around for 30 years and
they do have dealers throughout Canada and the US so some of the four season
capability features include thermal pane windows and skylights double dome
fantastic fans they also have heated tanks and the furnace systems are all
ducted to the basement areas so that helps heat both the camper floor and the
tanks and also the bottom of every camper is insulated and the cab over bed
area is double insulated to help prevent moisture from coming in so the first
model we looked at is the 2019 Northern Light 10.2 EX CD DR and some of the
features are it sleeps four the rig itself is 18.2 feet long and it weighs
about 3,300 pounds and capacities are 36 gallons for fresh 40 for gray and 18 for
black this particular model has a wet bath although I understand you can get
one with a dry bath and the kitchen is fully stocked with microwave fridge and
a stove with an oven even though you can't see it here and they do have a
skylight a 24 inch TV and two 100 watt solar panel standard on their special
edition models awnings on the side and the back and an exterior shower and also
comes with the ladder the second Northern Light truck camper we looked at
was the 2020 Northern Light 8.11 EX this camper sleeps four people it's 16.3
feet long and the weight is 2,630 pounds the tank capacities are 39 fresh 24 gray
and 13 gallons black this one also has a wet bath the kitchen includes microwave
fridge stove with oven and you also have a skylight 24 inch TV and solar panels
fantastic fan awning exterior shower and a ladder also included in this version
of the Northern Light the next truck camper we looked at was the 2019 New
Camp Cirrus 820 model the length of this camper is 17 feet 4 inches the width is
8 feet 2 inches and the height is 8 feet 7 inches the tank capacities are
fresh at 38 gallons gray at 32 gallons and black at 18 gallons Samsung microwave
a three-way 5 cubic feet fridge two burner glass top stove glass top sink
with fold-away faucet push-button hardware on the European style cabinetry
Horex window screen and shade system Plastiform custom-designed acrylic and
dual pane insulated windows Aldi hot water and central heat system a heated
and insulated subfloor so the holding tanks are heated the bed in the Cirrus is
a queen-size bed fold-out vanity sink and mirror and towel rod fantastic fans
Fiamma access ladder LED side patio lights exterior shower it also has
insulated battery and LP compartments the final truck camper we looked at was
the Bigfoot 25 C 104 model the dry weight is 3,426 pounds some of the
features of this camper a two-piece fiberglass exterior high density
insulation and thermal pane windows propane three burner stove porcelain
toilet fantastic fan spring mattress on the queen-size bed CD player roof racks
ladder heated and enclosed holding tanks 30,000 BTU furnace and a rear door awning
so I hope you enjoyed just some of the quick videos that we did while we're at
the RV show probably go back and do more detailed reviews of a couple of the
campers that we looked at just because we're interested but right now we'd also
want to share with you just our video from part of Garibaldi Park with our
first visit with the bear for the season so that was a lot of fun
videos please give us a thumbs up as I noted at the beginning we're probably
not going to be producing videos quite so frequently simply because the weather
is starting to turn rainy and wet but we still will get out sometimes we get out
all year so thanks very much for watching throughout the year and we
always appreciate your comments and we'll see you next time see you next
time
