Good morning everyone. Welcome back to
my a lotment diaries. My name is Emma.
These are the a lotment diaries. That is
Einstein chirping away in the background
who's my little robin friend who comes
to visit me if you're new around here.
Um, he features in most vlogs. Yes, you
do. He's sort of like the secret star.
Wait, where are you? Oh, there's two of
them. I was going to say either he's
learned to throw his voice or there's
two robins. It's like that scene on
signs. You know, they got the baby
monitor and then the aliens are talking
to each other. It's like
that, right? I went out yesterday and
got some more daily bulbs, but I had to
go quite near to where I live cuz the
kids were on um school holidays and they
didn't really want to go to a garden
center. So, I sort of, you know, I
understand. I do take them to a lot of
garden centers to be fair. I went to a
place called Pound Stretcher, which has
just opened near where I am. I used to
have a Will Co and it closed. And then I
used to have a big B& right next to me
and it closed and flats are being built
there and it's so annoying because they
were my two go-to places like gardening
supplies that I could kind of walk to
and now there's nowhere near. But Town
Stretcher did do quite a few like bulbs
and flowers and like gardening stuff. So
I got the mixed dia
tubers. They were $1.99 which is pretty
good. So I'm going to pop these on
today. But I also
saw this which I've always wanted to
grow. This is just this one. It's the
stuff that you always see in bunches of
flowers. Like if you go and look at
bunches of flowers, they have this stuff
sort of in between the flowers. I've
always wanted to grow it. And you get um
how many you get? Three. Three bulbs in
here. So I'm going to plant these as
well. I picked up these, too, which are
um alium molly. And they look really
pretty. I thought the the pollinators
will absolutely go crazy for these cuz
it's such a beautiful like yellow and
there's like multif flowers. Um and I've
got 10 bulbs of those. So, I thought I'd
put these in. I don't think they're
called bulbs. I think they're called
what they called corns or something. C.
It says bulbs on the back, but I'm
pretty sure they're called something
else. But
anyway, so much noise
today. Welcome to London. Anyway, got
lots to plant today. So, I thought I'd
start by potting on the ders. I'm going
to start them in pots this year and try
and protect them a bit from the slugs
and snails. So, let's go and do that
first with my pots I brought from home
so I don't have to go through the shed.

So, it is
13.5° C and 89% humidity. I don't think
we need the monitor to to be able to
tell how humid it is in here. It's
absolutely soaking
wet. Right. So, apparently the sun is
coming out later. You can sort of see
the sky, the clouds starting to break up
a little bit. So, that's a good sign, I
think. So, I don't think the sun has
completely disappeared on us just yet. I
think it's just a bit of a murky
morning, but there we go. That's okay.
Oh my gosh. Where's my
um also did notice a lot of uh wood chip
has arrived today. Um but I don't think
I need it. I don't think I need it.
I'm not going to go and get wood chip
just for the sake of having the wood
chip because it's there. I've actually
done most of my pathways now and I have
taken more than my fair share of free
wood chip I think. So, I'm going to
leave it for other people cuz they're
nice like that and consider it. Got
these great big pots from home. I think
ders need a nice big pot and also I want
to grow them on until they're quite big.
So, we've got good sized pots. We've got
a little bit of compost in there. have
to admit I wasn't totally blown away
with the
quality
of a lot of the ders in the
shop. But then it is pound stretcher. So
I sort of think, well, what do you
really expect,
Emma? Yeah, this is okay. This will this
will grow. This is fine. All right,
let's whack you in here. Whenever I um
plant ders, like even if it's in the
ground or in a pot, I always let the
little sticky bit stick up like that.
And then I think there's eyes around and
that's what it grows from. But I can
never find them cuz I don't know what an
eye looks like really. I could guess,
but um I don't know, so I won't say.
Fortunately, the sun is disappearing a
little bit more next week. And we've got
some rain forecast, which means one
thing for any a lotment gardener. Slugs.
Slugs and snails are on the way. So, I'm
going to start protecting some of my
crops today properly and sort of not not
taking any chances basically. Right,
that's him potted. So, what we'll do is
we'll leave him in here, give him a
water. Hopefully, he'll grow nice and
big for me. Cool.
Okay, I've managed to um get four out of
the packs. It's supposed to be six, but
you know what? A couple of the tubers
were a little bit questionable. I'm not
sure what pound saver are thinking, but
uh I mean very well might grow, but it
just looks a little bit questionable and
I don't want to waste a pot and a load
of compost on that. I mean that doesn't
look Oh god. I mean that looks like
something that I found alive and
squished and it's dried up and died. Do
you know what I mean? It doesn't look
like something that's going to grow. So
I'm not sure about that one. And then
the other one that they gave me was
that was the third one. So, I don't
think I mean potentially that could grow
into something, but not this year or
anytime soon. So, I'm not going to waste
a pot on that. So, I managed to get four
and we'll see how they go cuz they're
only a couple of quid each. They're
$1.99 each for those bags. I only got
two out of them. It's four for £4.
That's not bad. It's a pound a day. So,
if they do grow, some of them are big.
Yeah, we'll see. We will see. Right.
[Music]
Right. So, I've got my lovely tulip bed
here. And in between that, I've
scattered loads of wild flower seeds,
which I think will look beautiful if
they all come up. They do look like
they're growing. And that again is the
lack of rain and lack of slugs. But as
soon as the rain comes, they very well
may all get eaten. Even if they don't,
and I have wild flowers come up here, I
think it would be nice to have some
structure in between. So I'm going to
plant all those bulbs out here. So we
got the alium molly and this stuff,
gypsilia, gypsoilia, gypsilia. Um, just
so beautiful. So we're going to dot them
around and have a bit of structure
coming through the wild flowers. Look
what's happened to this one.
Isn't that such a shame? It's such a
gorgeous tulip as well. He's been like
sliced. Something sliced that. What
would do that? A bird. Maybe a bird's
just come and just Why would it do that
though? Like honestly, why would it do
that? I don't understand the thought
process behind that. Was it just for
fun? Do birds just do this for fun? I
don't know. Anyway, that's such a shame.
Oh, there's another one there. It's the
same tulip. It's the same one. It's been
completely sliced. This something sliced
it. What's doing
this? The same tulip. Something's going
after these. These have done something.
These have done something to annoy
someone. Are you in some kind of
trouble? Cuz their heads have been
chopped off. That's so weird. Right,
guys. I cannot guarantee the safety of
any of you now. I really can't. Not
after this. You're just going to have to
keep your wits about you and don't let
anyone chop your heads off. Okay. Oh,
the wild flowers are coming up so
nicely. So exciting.
Right. Where are you
guys? Oh my gosh. Is this it? Is this
right? Is that a gypsophilia? Is that
it? It's just a stick. Is that what
gypsilia is supposed to look like? It's
just a stick with a couple of sticks out
the bottom. Okay. Well, we'll just plant
it then. I don't know. Makes it quite
easy to plant, though. I don't even have
to dig. I'll just do
this. Just push it in with my finger.
Right. Going in.
Sticky. Feel like I'm just planting a
stick. That is so weird. That is so so
weird. But okay, that's one stick
in. Right. Sticky number two. You go.
Good
luck. Very, very
strange. It's just a stick. Are they
having me on here? Are they having me
on? Pound stretcher, what are you doing?
Is that a
stick? I think I've just buried a stick.
But there we go. Okay, three sticks are
in. Right. At least these ones look like
something that will grow. That looks
like a bulb. Okay,
good. Gosh, so funny.

Right, Andamat Home and Garden very very
kindly sent me some of their plant feed.
This is the Grow Pure fruit and
vegetable liquid fertilizer. So, I've
got a discount code for this. They very
kindly sent me a discount code for you
guys to use as well. So, if you want to
get your hands on it, go into my
description and there's a discount code
there and I'll leave a link as well
where you can find it. excited about
this Einstein. So, it's completely vegan
and it's made from plant waste. So, it's
natural as well. And the key difference
that they told me with this one is that
it's got a really good blend of the
three things you need in plant food,
which is nitrogen, potassium, and
phosphorus. And it's got an excellent
blend in this. So, it's really good for
fruit and vegetable. Help them to be big
and strong, completely natural, made
from plants. And also the bottle is made
from recycled plastic and it's also
recyclable. I mean and at home and
garden are very environmentally friendly
and it's like quite rare to find a
product where the bottle is actually
made from recycled plastic but also can
be recycled. So I just think it's great.
Um but the thing that intrigued me the
most about this plant food, if I'm
honest, is that apparently it doesn't
smell that bad. And we all know if
you've ever made your own plant food,
you know it's absolutely stinks. It's
like it stinks, stinks, stinks. And most
plant food stinks. Apparently, this one
is not so bad. I'm going to be the
tester. So, let's find out together if
this really stinks or
not. That's
unbelievable. You're having me on. That
smells like Dr. Pepper. I'm not even
kidding. I would drink
that. That's unbelievable. That's
unbelievable. That smells so nice. That
is such a like like that smells like Dr.
Pepper. I'd drink that. I mean, you
shouldn't drink it. Do not drink it, but
my
goodness, that's insane. I've never
smelled plant food that smells actually
good. That's crazy. Gosh. Anyway, right.
We're going to water some of the plants
with this today and help them to grow
big and strong. So, I'm going to follow
the directions on the back, dilute it
into my watering can, and get
watering. Right. If you guys do get your
hands on this and use my discount code.
You've got to tell me if you think this
smells like Dr. Pepper. That's
absolutely insane. Right, I've got four
liters in here. So, I'm going to do 20
mls of
that. I can't get over it. You've got to
tell me if you order this. You've got to
tell me if it smells like Dr. Pepper.
That's absolutely
crazy. Crazy.
[Music]
[Music]
Right, I really need to fix this. This
is really bothering me. Um because it
just keeps falling down. I need to put
another stick in the middle, I think.
Right, let's find another stick.
[Music]
The rambling rose is coming to life.
Look at all the little shoots coming off
of it. Oh my gosh, how exciting. It's
starting to come
alive. I mean, really quickly as well
because I only planted this a couple of
weeks ago and it's just like I can see
now how it's going to really take off
and hopefully go all the way over the
archway and then ramble through the
trees. I don't think I have to do
anything else to it. I have a feeling
it's going to grip on by itself and be
okay, but let me know if that's wrong
and if I have to tie it in. I sort of
feel like it's it feels quite sturdy.
So, I feel like it's just holding on
really well. So, I'm not going to tie
him in or anything. I'm just going to
let him go and then as soon as this
starts to grow bigger, I'll sort of snip
him back and make sure that he's going
where I want him to go. But, I think
you're rambling the right way at the
moment. So, at the moment, you're doing
great. So, I'll just I'll just leave
him. Yeah, I'll just let him get on with
it. Right. Cool.
[Music]
Well, do let me know if you do uh go
below and order this um with my discount
code, of course. Um but hopefully that
will do a lot good for those plants that
I've watered. So, excellent. I'll keep
this in here and um I think I'll
probably feed my plant every other week,
maybe every other week, maybe a week and
a half. Um and we'll see how they go.
Like I said, it's for just for
vegetables and fruit. So, you can sort
of do everything cuz it's got such a
good balance in there. So, brilliant.
Right. I said that I would move the back
of the greenhouse today, didn't I? I
lied. I lied. I got here today and cuz
it's like a bit overcast and stuff, I
just didn't feel like doing it. So, I
think what I'm going to do is do that
next time. A lot of you are wondering
how my tomatoes and cucumbers are doing
because obviously I planted them out way
too early in my poly tunnel. And I do
know the polycarbonate greenhouse, not
poly tunnel, though it may as well be
sometimes because it does still get very
cold in here at night. What I will say
is that they are alive, but the very
bottom of them are starting to sort of
go like get um a bit damage because
obviously the ground gets gets colder
than sort of like the air. That makes
sense. So are getting just a little tiny
bit of frost damage on the bottom
leaves, but the top leaves absolutely
fine and vibrant and green. So I'm not
too worried about it. What I'll do is
I'll chop these off at some point, but I
think they're going to be okay. I have a
feeling they'll figure it out and I'll
figure it out with you guys. Don't
worry. Anyway, I've got loads more
tomato plants at home that I could
always replace them with. And I've got
I'm going to have some more tomato plant
tomato plants outside the polycarbonate
greenhouse as well so that we we can
just try try them everywhere really.
I've plant I've way over planted this
year on purpose. Right, I'm waffling. I
hope you guys have enjoyed the vlog
today. If you have, do subscribe to my
channel. I will see you again on Friday.
Have a lovely rest of your gardening
week, guys. See you Friday. Bye.
