Before Chen Yun's appearance in Stockholm on April 19, 13 members of parliament sent a prior member of parliament and a councillor their best wishes to Chen Yun.
In a joint statement, they wrote,
We warmly welcome Chen Yun's world tour to Sweden in April 2025.
Chen Yun Performing Arts is a dance and music company based in New York that re-experiences traditional Chinese culture.
A unique theme in the performance is China before communism, which gives the audience an insight into China's 1,000-year-old cultural heritage.
A heritage that still lives on despite oppression in today's China.
One of the visitors at the premiere was the filmmaker and cinematographer Lars Lasslöf Schiessler, who was impressed by the visual effects.
What I was struck by was that it was very cinematic, because you combine theater with this pre-recorded background that is animated and it was very effective and very entertaining.
The performance also had a good rhythm, so I didn't think it had any dead spots. It wasn't boring anywhere. It can be boring, but it wasn't boring at all, so it was surprising and it was fun.
Schiessler is a versatile filmmaker, director, film photographer, screenwriter and editor of short and long films.
His work has won many international awards. He says that Chen Yun's music is reminiscent of Hungarian music.
I'm half-Hungarian, so Hungarian music is similar to Chinese music.
Bela Bartok, the composer, found out that Hungarian folk music comes from Western China. It's documented. So I recognize that, even though I was born in Sweden.
Even Ludwig Fröden Christensson, a freelance musician and trumpeter in classical music and baroque music, was at the circus to experience Chen Yun.
It's very inspiring. The first thing I reacted to was the colors, especially for me. The colors were so straight in my face, so that's what I reacted to, especially when I did it.
The music was good from the start, but it was the colors and the energy from the first second that you stared at from start to finish. You were in it right away. It was cool.
It's very inspiring when you hear music from an older culture. I like the sounds. I like the Chinese culture and their sounds and melodies.
It speaks a lot to me. I like the folk instruments and their sounds. I think it's very fun to listen to.
It's a kind of freedom sign. You feel that there is a longing for freedom. I understand the connections to... I mean, you represent free China, and I know how communist China is.
So it's a kind of manifestation of democracy and tradition.
