Easter Monday 2025 will forever be remembered as the day the world lost Pope Francis, who passed away peacefully at age 88 inside his humble residence — Casa Santa Marta, also known as Domus Sanctae Marthae, in Vatican City.
In this respectful tribute and house tour, we explore the private space where Pope Francis chose to live, breaking from centuries of tradition by not residing in the Apostolic Palace. Built in 1996, Saint Martha’s House was designed as a guesthouse for visiting clergy, featuring modest suites — each with a bedroom, sitting room, private bathroom, and no televisions or minibars.
Pope Francis lived here from 2013 to 2025, reflecting his values of humility, simplicity, and living in community. While not luxurious, this space was deeply personal to him, and in this video, we honor that choice by taking a closer look at the place he called home.
We’ll also explore:
His reasoning behind not living in the Papal Palace
The Vatican’s lesser-known properties and papal retreats
How his death has impacted the Catholic Church
Current funeral arrangements, public mourning, and the selection of the 267th Pope
This video is created with deep respect for the Pope, his legacy, and the Catholic community worldwide. From all of us here at Famous Entertainment — may he rest in peace.

easter Monday 2025 will forever be
remembered as the religious holiday that
marked the passing of Pope Francis at
the age of 88 inside his residence Casa
Santa Maria also known as Domis Sanct to
Martha or St Martha's house While many
Catholics are in mourning and the papal
candidates gather to vote on what will
be the
267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church
I'll be bringing you some facts about
the residence in which Pope Francis
lived and sadly passed away this Easter
Monday Breaking from the tradition Pope
Francis chose not to live in the papal
palace inside the Vatican but said stay
in St Martha's House where he was living
prior to his election in 2013 as Pope of
the Roman Catholic Church St Martha's
House is a modern guest house built in
1996 right next to St Peter's Basilica
in Vatican City Pope Francis chose this
simple residence to live in a community
with other bishops and cardinals
offering modest but comfortable
accommodations His room would have been
considered a guest house being one of
two adjacent fivestory buildings which
included 106 mini suites each with a
sitting room bedroom and private
bathroom The suites include a desk
chairs closet and dresser with no TVs
and no mini bars Pope Francis lived
there from his election in 2013 until
his death in 2025 And although modest to
say the very least this residence
reflects his values of humility and
togetherness For those looking for
something with a bit more opulence I've
also researched the other Vatican
properties and vacation getaways popes
are accustomed to while serving the top
job in the Catholic religion Stay tuned
as we walk you through all the details
of the illustrious Roman Catholic
properties here for you on Famous
Entertainment This video is made with
the utmost respect for the Pope and
Catholics the world's over The
information I'm sharing with you is
public information I myself am a regular
at my local parish each Sunday So if you
see me there at St Patrick's be sure to
say hi Our prayers to the Pope Now let's
get into this video Guys I have an
important announcement about this
channel There is someone trying to take
this channel Famous Entertainment Down
and have everything that I've worked so
hard on deleted Click the link in the
top comment and I'll explain everything
at the end of this video So please stay
tuned Seeing as I explained in the intro
where Pope Francis chose to live during
his time as both bishop and pope let's
take a look at the location each pope
before him chose to live The Appalistic
Palace also known as the Papal Palace or
the Palace of the Vatican is the
official residence of the Pope in
Vatican City Construction began in the
late 15th century with its current form
largely attributed to Pope Sixus the 5th
in the late 16th century This palace is
vast housing not only the papel
apartments but also the Vatican museums
the Vatican library the Sistine Chapel
the Raphael rooms and offices of the
Holy Pope Francis continues to use the
abolistic palace for official duties
such as audiences and the Sunday
angelist prayer but returns to his
modest suite for daily life His decision
to live at doisene mar has allowed
greater public access to the traditional
papal apartments and summer residence
which are now open to tourists Located
on the third or the top floor the papal
apartments wrap around the courtyard of
six to five The suite includes about 10
rooms a vestibule a private study a
bedroom a medical suite a dining room a
living room a kitchen and staff quarters
There's a private chapel a library with
views over St Peter's Square and a roof
garden The apartments have been
renovated to suit each pope with
significant updates after the death of
John Paul II and before Benedict moved
in Traditionally the Pope would greet
crowds from the study window overlooking
St Peter's Square Historically Pope
spent summers at the Quirinol Palace or
more recently the PPP Palace of Castell
Gondalfo which is now open to the public
since Pope Francis chose not to use it
By the way if I pronounce anything wrong
don't be mad at me I'm trying here Then
we have Pope Francis's choice Dolas San
Marte A break from tradition Pope
Francis is the first pope in over a
century not to reside in the apolistic
palace Instead he lives in Doma Santa
Mara Santa Marta a guest house adjacent
to St Peter's Basilica built in 1996 to
house cardinals during conclaves As
mentioned these rooms were pretty basic
with Pope Francis's personal space
described as a simple two room suite
known as suite 2011 Each suite included
a desk chairs closet and a dresser with
no TVs or mini bars There would be many
communal areas for food and prayer
including a large communal dining room
serving meals with an emphasis on
wholesome local food Then there's the
main chapel dedicated to the Holy Spirit
featuring a triangular design
symbolizing the Trinity with a glass
wall displaying the ancient Leonine wall
and mosaics of the seven gifts of the
Holy Spirit Why the change pope Francis
chose this simpler less isolating
accommodation to live in community with
others including priests bishops and
guests visiting the Vatican He values
the opportunity for daily interaction
and communal living reflecting his
pastoral approach and his personal
humility too He has a two- room suite
which was 2011 as mentioned which had
slightly more elegant furnishings and a
larger living area for receiving guests
He takes his meals in the common dining
room and he celebrated mass in the main
chapel of the residence with Vatican
employees and guests Finally let's
consider the symbolism The papel
apartments represent power tradition and
history Pope Francis's choice of doma
sanctang symbolizes humility simplicity
and community Well we know that's what
Pope Francis was all about Pope
Francis's decision to live in these
apartments is more than a personal
preference It's a powerful statement
about leadership humility and the role
of the papacy in the modern world By
choosing a simpler more communal
lifestyle he set a new tone for the
Catholic Church and he made the
Vatican's grandest spaces more
accessible to the world It was said he's
experimenting with this type of living
arrangement which is simple but allows
him to live in community with others
That's what a Vatican spokesman said
before Pope Francis's home is a
reflection of his values humility
simplicity and a desire to be close to
people While the opalistic palace
remains a symbol of papal tradition in
history the modest suite at dois sanct
is where Pope Francis truly felt at home
This is where he lived out his message
every day The late Pope Francis's unique
approach to paple living invites us to
rethink what it means to be at home even
at the heart of one of the world's most
storied institutions What do you think
of Pope Francis's choice and who do you
think is going to be the next pope let
