Hello, this is Junho Lee. Today
Since you've not been satisfied with the places that I've been introducing you to so today
I'm just I'll introduce a little bit about like next story
How especially how our dynasty ended and what happened to this royal family
So today I will focus on stories about those royal family in the end of dynasty
Okay, so we have to go to main palaces. One is the Changdeokgung, one is the Deokseonggung
But first, let's go to Changdeokgung. Let's go. So we're here in Changdeokgung palace
This palace is only UNESCO palace in Korea. There are many reasons why it's
Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site
But one of the reason is that this is the well the most well-preserved palace
That's because our last king actually have lived here and died here since
from
1907 to 1926
So this is the best place if you want to see the lifestyle or of the last king
So that's the main reason we came here to see the our last
Royal family. Okay, so let's go find out
Okay, so we had a king
1907 but he had he was forced to resign by Japanese. So his son
Become a king 1907. So the the king who resigned or living in Deokseonggung palace
but the
His son who later become a king in 1907 actually come to this Changdeokgung palace and be living here
Until he passed away in 1926. So I'm right here in a place called Daejojeon is where they actually live
Especially when you come here we have to see this building it's called Heungbokjeon
This is the place
1910
Right before Korea become colonized by Japan our royal family and all these officers had a meeting
right here in this place
And
1909 this king actually had to travel all throughout the South Korea for two weeks
I think it was also used used by Japan because Japanese wanted to tell everybody
That Korea is occupied by Japan and then like Japan is taking care of
Like Korea very well, so he had to go travel all those cities in Korea for two weeks
But he when he travels there. There's
The one who's in charge of Korea the Japanese. His name is Ito
Hirobumi
He was actually with him so whenever he visits the cities, but he didn't instead of him
but the Japanese guy Ito Hirobumi was actually
speaking in public
Mainly telling people that this king has been taken care of well by this Japanese
So do you people don't worry about it Japanese are will take care of Korea very well
so he I guess he was used by this guy as a
Method to tell people that Korea is okay
do you understand I
Explain it now, but I don't even know if I understand well, but anyway
So that happened so he went to the Seoul station to take a train to visit all the cities in Korea
So later we'll visit the Seoul station. I would I'd like to show you Seoul station
There's also one of the really important and I come
Events took place there in 1920. All right, so
Let's go
so
The place we just visited is called Daejojeon, but there was a fire
in
1917
so
The king actually escaped so he went to the place called Yeongyeongdang which is located in a garden area
Stayed here for several days until this this building is repaired for king to stay
So he moved here for for two years until the Daejojeon is fully restored
But what happened was when he came to the Yeongyeongdang the place in the garden escaped the fire
What happened was he didn't bring anything from the palace. He did not bring any any any anything
So he had nothing no no dishware and no clothings. No blanket. So it was very cold
So it was the emergency so he had to go
The queen's family houses and then the king's father's house
Which is the Deoksugung to borrow like dishwares and clothings and blankets
So he can survive this Korea brutal winter
Do you understand?
It's a good place
So he stayed here for two years. So let's go see what's
Like what it's like to be here for two years. All right, we're gonna go see the real actual place
Of Korea, let's go
Okay, so we are here inside of Naksunje
So this is where Sunjong the last king lived for two years until the Daejojeon main living place is restored
But also his stepbrother and his stepsister had to go to Japan and they actually lived there until
1963 and when they come back to Korea, they have no else to stay so that they actually stay here
So we have seen these places in Changdeokgung, this is a place where you can see
the life of
Sunjong which is the last king of our dynasty
But also in the end after Korea becoming independent their stepbrother and stepsister actually came back to Korea and lived here
So this is the places
And so it's a very sad place it's more like a
Prison for them because they were not able to do anything except staying here and this palace until they passed away and
sometimes
When Japanese asked them to do something and then they have to do something
Like for example the stepbrother stepsister they didn't want to leave Korea
But they have to go to Japan because Japanese forced them to go to Japan and they got married to Japanese as a part of
Korea being united to with
Japan and also this last king Sunjong like I told you they went to Korea all of the Korea to talk
with this guy in charge of the Japanese guy in charge of Korea
but also
1917 he had to go to Japan to meet the Japanese Emperor and to pay the visit to the Japanese Emperor the palace
this
Happened that's that thing never happened throughout the Korean history
We never ever Korean King ever visited China to pay her to pay his visits
But this time Korean King
1917 he went to Japan for almost like two weeks
He visited a lot of places
It's a very sad history
So
When we go to Japan he went to Seoul Station and take a train to Busan from there went to Japan
So Seoul Station later, we'll go check it out
But until now so I've been explaining to you all those put all those history and story. Do you understand? I hope you do
We're visiting Deoksugung Palace. We can find some life of our second to the last king which
of which his name was
Gojong
Let's go
We came here Deoksugung Palace
The palace where you can see the life of our second to the last king
whose name was
Gojong
I'm gonna show you the life of
Gojong
So we're here in Deoksugung Palace, which is really beautiful palace
But let me briefly introduce this palace to you
So when we invaded by Japan 400 years ago whole palace was burned
So king when left the Seoul and he come when he come back. There's no palaces to live. So he
Came here to live. So that's when it become palace, but this was the house of one of the royal family
But later the king's wife which was the Queen was assassinated by Japan
Then King actually moved to Russian Embassy for one year and then after that he moved
To this palace instead of moving back to the main palace, so that's when the history of Deoksugung Palace actually starts
So here you can see the life of our second to the last king whose name was Gojong
so we're gonna see some of the places where a lot of
historical events
happen
here
Let's
Go find out. Okay
Beautiful palace
Let's go
Okay, so episode 1
So these kings have tasted coffee, so it was a
1898
Was the birthday of the Gojong the second to the last king
So next day a lot of people left but some of the family members still
Here in this palace not this place, but this is also place where they have coffee, but not this place, but they said
They've come they had a coffee, but immediately people said Oh
King, please stop drinking it because the poison it's a poison
so
But actually they were okay, but except the crown prince at the time who later become the king he
lost 18
teeth
That's because he drank coffee
Kkotbaegi, do you know what Kkotbaegi means?
Kkotbaegi means like double like twice more quantity. So he drank the whole coffee
So he poisoned coffee, so he lost 18
teeth
So when he actually went to Japan to see the Emperor in Japan, so Emperor really they said Emperor was
Too caring so they provide the food that is easy to choose because he had a problem with his teeth
Do you understand?
So
Yeah that happened here
So this is Hamnyeongjeon, this is where the second to the last king Gojong have lived and died
He died actually 1919
January
It was very sudden death because they said they had a
Dinner and then like he was okay, but all of a sudden he just died
at 1 a.m.
They said he drank the like a Sikhye, which is a rice punch and he died all of a sudden. So a lot of people actually
Believe that he has been murdered. That's because the day before he had a meeting with the people who's going to Japan to celebrate
His son another son's wedding. It's getting married to Japanese lady, but he's totally against it
So maybe that's why people poison him
So anyway, he had a meeting with the people who's going to Japan to celebrate the wedding and then one week later
This other son was supposed to get married in Japan, but then he died
in here
So king passed away so they were they were going to have a funeral 3rd of March in 1919
So two days before 1st of March 1919
There were literally hundreds of people thousands of people here
Some people say 15,000 people were here and then about thousand people were inside the palace to see him
For the last time so a lot of people are here like crying out loud
a lot of people actually holding the flag the flag say
Independence of Korea
so even some of the people inside like
Thought Korea become independent, but it was actually not but anyway, a lot of people were very sad
So we came here to see him for the last time
Okay. So this is a Seoul station when our king last king went went to all this
Cities in Korea and went to Japan
He always used to he always come here to take a train to Busan or other cities in Korea. So this is a
Seoul station
And also one more thing this is a Kang Woo-kyu
He is a grandpa, but in 1920 when the third
governor of
Japanese governor
Who's who's coming to Korea from Japan? He was here. He knew that he's coming
So he threw the bomb at him, but he missed it. So he survived. So after that he was captured
he was sent to
The Sodom and prison and he was executed
But he was a grandpa, but he know that this is wrong Japan occupying Korea. So he wanted to
Punish this governor who's coming to Korea
Thank you very much for watching my video, I hope you're satisfied
You're not satisfied. I
Understand this time. I'm also not satisfied
This is like really first time for me to really explain the like a history or like stories about those places
It's really not easy to like deliver the stories
So I'm not satisfied you're not satisfied this time. Okay, I understand
See you again with another place of interest or another story interesting story about Korea. Thank you. Bye
