Unexpected! Blue Origin revealed New Glenn completed for NASA Mars Mission but...
Just months after its inaugural orbital flight, Blue Origin is already gearing up for the next major milestone. Preparations for the second New Glenn launch are in full swing, with significant hardware activity underway and plans taking shape—particularly around the highly anticipated NASA Mars mission.
Naturally, several major challenges still lie ahead on the path to flight.
So how is Blue Origin progressing with preparations for New Glenn’s second mission? What objectives are in sight? And what hurdles must be cleared to get there?
Let’s dive in on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.

It’s safe to say that Blue Origin entered the orbital launch race earlier this year with bold determination. Their first New Glenn mission reflected some of the company’s most ambitious goals to date—successfully deploying a payload into orbit and landing the massive booster on a droneship. As we know, Blue Origin succeeded in achieving orbital insertion and payload deployment, while the booster landing attempt fell short. Following the mission, the company promptly launched a mishap investigation to determine what went wrong and how to improve for future flights.
That investigation concluded by the end of March, with the root causes identified and corrective actions mapped out. With that behind them, Blue Origin is now wasting no time moving forward. The company has kicked off early preparations for the second flight of New Glenn.

On X, Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp shared a major update: images of New Glenn’s second stage en route to the company’s Integration Facility in Florida. Limp wrote, “Great to see New Glenn’s 2nd stage on the move again in Florida and arriving at our Integration Facility. Next up will be a hot-fire of our two BE-3Us on this second stage as we prepare for NG-2.” Blue Origin also chimed in with a post reading, “GS2, is that you? Today, New Glenn’s second stage is moving to our integration facility!”
This update suggests that the second stage is now set for inspection and testing. If it has already been fitted with its BE-3U engines, covered in the images by a black protective shroud, the next step will be a hot-fire test—likely similar to the one conducted last year. That test will involve firing two BE-3U engines, which together produce approximately 346,000 pounds (or 157 metric tons) of thrust.
