hello friends how are we all doing It is
time for my quarterly wrap-up of the
first quarter Kwan of the year How are
we all doing How is everyone's reading
gone I feel like my reading this first
quarter has been very mixed We'll talk
about that particularly when we get into
the stats If you're new here for my
quarterly wrap-ups I go through all my
reading stats for the quarter and then
we go through the five worst and five
best books that I have read So shall we
just dive into it We'll start with the
stats And yeah I'm excited to talk about
my reading at the start of this year cuz
I feel like it's been like there's been
some interesting themes shall we say So
let's get into
it Okay let's talk about reading stats
shall we So in the first three months of
the year I read 26 books which I feel
like well no definitely is a little bit
less than I would usually read You'll
see why when we go through the months
but a little bit less than what I would
usually read I struggled a little bit
getting into reading at the start of
this year So I only read five books in
January And in all these months there'll
be some books or a book that I can't
show you yet for a vlog that's coming So
there'll be there'll be some that you
can't see but I read five books in
January I read nine books in February
and I read 12 books in March So I'd say
12 is kind of my average usually So
we're getting back into the normal swing
of things but I definitely struggled
reading at the start of the year I read
8,670 pages which is an average of 96.3
pages per day Just under I always like
that to be 100 Like if I feel like I'm
reading 100 pages a day I feel like I'm
doing something right you know I love my
family I love my work I love my
life And that is an average of 333 pages
per book which is I think a little bit
higher I didn't read many novelas if any
in the first few months of the year
There's mostly novels and mostly longer
ones I feel like my average is usually a
little bit under 300 So a little bit
longer in terms of the books I read My
average rating
was a 3.6 My disappointment is
immeasurable and my day is ruined which
was my average rating last year when I
was trying to have my best reading year
ever Usually I was a 3.7 in years
previous my average rating The thing is
we'll talk about the star ratings when
we get into graphs in a second It's
absolutely diabolical cuz I've had quite
a lot of five stars I've had a lot of
like really strong books I just had so
many so many 3.5 stars The evil 3.5 star
rating Here's the thing A 3.5 is like a
good rating I've just had so many of
them and I feel the same about so many
books that I've read in the first
quarter I am fed up of 3.5s I never want
to see a 3.5 again I am so done with the
3.5 star rating So yeah my average
rating was a 3.6 six And the average
amount of months a book has been on my
TBR was 11 which is quite high I read a
lot of books that had been on my TBR I
mean there's like some really there's
some books that had been on my TBR for a
really long time Let me call some of
them out Some of which we will be
talking about later A Darker Shade of
Magic had been on my TBR 63 months A
Sprinkle of Sorcery 53 The Mirror Season
41 But then there's loads of books like
I did the whole Good Reads Choice Awards
winners vlog where I had to get all of
them in All of them had been on my TBR
for zero months So it is a mix but the
average was 11 Okay let's get into the
graphs So this is my star ratings So as
you can see it's very middleheavy So I
had three two stars one 2.5 star six
three stars eight eight
3.5s eight
3.5s one four two 4.5s and five fives
This is what I'm saying Five fives out
of 26 books is like a fifth is really
good I I did not really get many I don't
know how many five stars I had this
point in the year last year but it
wasn't many So I'm feeling really good
about the amount of five stars I'm
getting I'm just I don't want 3.5s cuz
that's like I liked it but it was mid
Three is like a It's fine 3.5 is I liked
it but it was mid I would like some I'd
like more fours I've only had one four
One four I'd like some more fours I mean
of course I'd like more fives but I just
want the books to raise that little bit
from a 3.5 to a four because a four is
like that's a really strong book I liked
it you know So I would like that to
improve In terms of genre let's talk
about genre I read one contemporary
seven fantasy We'll talk about that in a
second One historical one horror one
magical realism one memoir six mystery
three non-fiction which is good How many
non-fiction am I aiming to read this
year 15 Okay we're a bit behind in that
regard Three romance one sci-fi and one
thriller So my most genres as usual are
fantasy and mystery but fantasy I have
been really struggling with I don't know
if I've really read a fantasy yet this
year that I've really enjoyed It hasn't
been good I haven't been enjoying the
fantasy that I've been reading
Most hideous experience for me to go
through how horrible and [ __ ] And I
don't really know why that is like a lot
I mean what what is the highest rated
fantasy that I've read Cuz there ain't
many fantasy A three a three a two I'm
looking at the ratings I've given A 3.5
a 3.5 a
2.5 and a three
Yeah I'm not enjoying fantasy I don't
really know why that is There's just
something I'm really struggling with
with fantasy in that like higher level
of imagination I' I've spoken about this
already this year but like I'm I'm just
finding them really hard to read That
level of imagination of like this other
world I'm not vibing with And I don't
know why I mean sure I have to read a
fantasy at some point this year I give a
four or higher We can't go the whole
year not reading fantasy Does that sound
like something you want It is But let me
tell you you'll never get it That can't
happen It's one of my most read genres
So yeah It's really upsetting me I have
so much of my TBR is fantasy I have so
many books I want to read but I'm just
really struggling with it and I don't
know why I will just show you quickly
here the subg genre categories I've read
quite a lot of historical leaning things
Six historical leaning subgenre books In
terms of format 24 were novels One was a
novela and one was anthology So pretty
much all novels A lot of what I read is
novels though this is never very
interesting but mostly novels In terms
of how I read the books two were audio
books nine were physical and 15 were
mixture which had I had the physical and
the audio I would always like that to be
like less than 50% I feel like I relied
on audio a little bit So far in April I
think I've done like almost all physical
reading which I'm quite happy with I
just think like I don't want to be
relying on audio books Audio books are
great I I listen to a lot of audio books
um they really help me like get through
books when particularly for vlogs like
if I have a deadline but I don't want to
become reliant on them and just like
listening to them for the sake of
listening to them So I'm really trying
to keep that like under 50% But it was a
little bit more this month One stat that
I'm very interested in is the author
status because I had as one of my
reading goals this year to have 50%
authors I'd read from before in order to
have a good reading year because chances
are if I've read an author before and
want to read from them again I've
enjoyed them in the past and will enjoy
them again And I want to read down my
TBR and a lot of my TBR is authors I've
read from before
And it is half in this first quarter
exactly half I read five debuts eight
authors that were new to me and 13
authors that I'd read from before or
books from authors that I read from
before Um so I'm very happy about that
We're we're on track for that goal and I
thought that would be a really hard goal
to achieve but like even with doing some
vlogs that I feel like didn't lend
itself to that we still achieved it And
um I definitely think it will help me
read down my TBR and help me have a
higher rating if we continue that I
still want to like discover new authors
that I haven't read from before but you
know usually it's like a third a third a
third and I just want that read before
to be 50 So I'm very happy that that's
happened Then in terms of where I
acquired the books 13 were books that
I'd bought 11 were books that were
gifted to me and two were books from the
publisher I think I'm going forward
going to swap how I track this or like
add another category where it's like did
I buy this for a vlog like in the moment
or in like the month previous or was it
on my TBR So I'm going to switch how I
track that going forward So next month's
quarter wrap-up next month's I keep
saying months In 3 months time that will
be a stat So I'm going to track that
going forward cuz I think like I'm
trying to read down my TBR That is
something we should track In terms of
audience I read 21 adult three YA and
two middle gradede That's a bigger chunk
of YA middle gradede than usual I read
the older series on my TBR that I hadn't
like continued in and a lot of them two
of them were middle gradede And I've
just been reading a little bit more YA I
don't think I'll necessarily continue
It's still majority adult that I read
these days but yeah I don't know It's
interesting And then the publisher that
had published the books two are
published by Amazon which is like Lady
Hard Castle and another indie It's kind
of like indie published isn't it like
through an Amazon publisher Six were
published by Hashet three were Harper
Collins four were McMillan five were
Penguin one from Titan one from tour Is
there any others One from Orbit and one
from Atlantic Books And then the year
the books were published 12 were from
2024 We don't need to go through all the
other years but I read a lot of 2024
releases I have not yet read a 2025
release and it's April I'm not doing my
job Get your [ __ ] ass up and work It
seems like nobody wants to work these
days Well here's the thing I'm trying to
read down my TBR but I do have some I'm
just scared I'm scared to crack into one
I'm scared to read my first 2025
release Bit petrified actually I'm a
little bit scared I haven't read any
2025 books Let me know what your
favorite if you've read any 2025
releases what has been your favorite so
far this year I'd like to know Cover
color nine were black a lot of them were
black Um three were pink three were blue
but a lot of black covers which I feel
like I want some color in my life you
know And then the country that a book
were published I haven't read very
diversely in terms of country this this
month This month this quarter I'm so
sorry Every time I say this month just
ignore me 10 was set in the US four were
set in the United Kingdom and one was
set in Japan Not very diverse I read a
lot of US set books and hopefully I will
read a bit more variety in the coming
months Oh and sorry I forgot series
stats Series stats Two books were first
in a series Am I continuing either of
those I'm not continuing either the
series that I started Seven books were
partway through a series That's good
isn't it Seven books were partway
through a series One book was last in a
series and 16 were standalones So I'm
pretty happy with that Okay I think that
is all our reading stats Let's go get
into the best and the worst of the month
Okay let's talk about the five worst
We'll start with the worst and then
we'll end on a positive note As I was
saying with the statistics I did not
have a lot of low ratings this quarter I
really didn't It was just a lot of 3.5
So the first two on this list because
there's one I think 2.5 No one two maybe
Oh Da's fighting the bed Ignore her
Sorry about the noise She just has to be
in here while I'm filming She hears my
voice and she doesn't like that I'm
talking to someone that's not her
There's one book that I gave a rating I
think two that I can't show you cuz it's
a secret book So there's two three stars
on this list And like I don't feel like
a three star should really be on a worst
books list So I've picked my worst three
stars but like that feels wrong These
books are fine I They're fine you know
But um we have to talk about something
So number five a three star is Threeact
Tragedy by Agatha Christie I read this
on holiday It was one of the two books I
read whilst I was away that I didn't
vlog This and I read The Next Lady Hard
Castle which I did enjoy I gave that I
think a 4.5 But this was my next pro to
read It's at a dinner party and one
person collapses and dies at the dinner
party but then his like drink glass is
tested and it doesn't have any traces of
the thing that killed him Now my issue
with this is there is basically no pro
for a pro Hell yeah Where's this [ __ ]
Where is she She's scared If I'm reading
a pro I want pro How many times can I
say pro before it stops sounding like a
real word or a real name I guess it's
not a word or something I don't know
Anyways he's barely in this book And
instead we're following these characters
that I didn't really care about They
felt kind of like just basic versions of
like characters you see in Agatha
Christie books again and again and again
and again Like in this era every book
has a young kind of like clever girl as
an Agatha Christie insert There's
there's a certain archetype If you've
read her books there's you know the kind
of young girl that I'm talking about you
clever sensible maybe helps out pro in
the investigation that she's always
there There's always a little sneaky
Agatha Christie insert I wonder whether
it kind of like ages up or whether she's
always like this younger I don't know
But yeah just certain characters just
felt like archetypal characters that she
does a lot but not done particularly
well You know what I mean So I don't
really have much to say about this It
was very me I listen to the audio book
on the beach I much prefer the beach
than listening to this Here's I think
there's so here's the thing There are so
many Christies There's so many Christies
And I feel like I'm getting into like a
really like high point of her writing
Like the next five I have to read are
Death in the Clouds The ABC Murders
Murden
Mesopotamia Cards on the Table I've
heard wonderful things about and Murder
in the Muse So I feel like I'm And then
Death on an Ar which I have read is a
little bit further down Like I feel like
this is really like an iconic era And
when you look at the publication years
she's just publishing like three books a
year sometimes She was the Freedom
McFaden of her day Okay don't say that
one more time You sound really stupid No
that's that's not a good comparison
because Miss Agatha couldn't write Well
oh my god I shouldn't be mean Okay Um
yeah but she's publishing a lot And I
think sometimes you just read certain
pros where you're like you just churned
that one out babes You wrote that in a
day This is there's not much thought to
this and the characters didn't feel
particularly depth Like she has this is
the thing when she was publishing so
many books There's absolute standouts
knockouts and then the next book you
read will be a bit meh you know So it
was a three star Again this isn't bad
It's all my worst books but like I had
to fill something So I just felt a bit
bit disappointed by this one Then we
have a three star that is absolutely a
victim of me struggling with fantasy
This was the one that made me realize I
was struggling with fantasy So again I
feel tentative to put this on here but
all the other three stars I felt
tentative to put on here And that is the
Hexologist by Josiah Braftoft This was a
book that I read for the Mr Bees vlog It
was one of the books I got recommended
there And I really feel like I could
have loved this Was it the right moment
You're following a husband and wife duo
as they solve mysteries The king
currently wants to be baked into a cake
but there's also all these monsters It's
like a very like fantastical world with
these kind of like I want to say
Lovecraftian I don't really know what
Lovecraftian was but anything I've ever
heard compared to Lovecraftian I would
compare to this you know like these kind
of like dark monsters that spring up out
of nowhere and they have to fight them I
just couldn't picture it cuz it's
fantasy This is this is really a me
problem this one It's really me problem
There's a lot that I could enjoy about
this It was funny It had this kind of
like self-aware sarcastic narration that
I think usually I would really enjoy It
had a talking dragon who occasionally
eats people but is kind of sweet as well
and likes like baked goods that has that
kind of cozy element but I just couldn't
I couldn't picture it and I've kind of
forgotten about it you know But I really
think this is me It's a me problem and I
think in another life I could have
enjoyed it but I really really struggled
to get through it Really did Like in
terms of my enjoyment this was probably
even like a 2.5 but I gave it a three
because I recognized that it was me that
was the issue Okay then we have a 2.5
and that is Amari and the Great Game by
BB Alston I'm sc I'm sad about this one
I'm really amum I feel bad I feel guilty
I feel terrible Yeah it's not Yeah this
is the sequel to Amari and the Night
Brothers which I loved And I read this
as part of me trying to like make
progress in series I haven't made
progress in in a long time And I just
didn't like it I didn't like it I didn't
like it I'm so sorry I didn't like it I
mean all I can do is be honest with my
feelings
The thing that bothered me most was The
Great Game was like only introduced
halfway through the book and in my
opinion was nothing source This book is
like a middle book It's like trying to
set up more for us to care about more
problems And I I really feel like it's
it's not actually technically a middle
book cuz it's going to be five books But
I don't feel like this book really has
an identity of its own It didn't have
events that I cared about It didn't have
character development that I cared about
Everything just felt a bit stagnant and
a bit like
unnotable Yeah And I'm not going to
continue the series I feel really bad I
I love this the first book of the series
I wanted to love this one but like great
gamew wear Great gamew wear What Great
game great gamew wear I can't see her
It's just it doesn't the book I don't
really understand what it was shooting
for I don't want to talk about it cuz
I'm sad The next book I was like
thinking I could get away without
talking about this as well And this
another fantasy and I read this for my
patron book club and it is A Darker
Shade of Magic by V E Schwab I gave this
two stars I I didn't think I'd actually
have to come I hadn't I hadn't thought
about this video and I didn't think I'd
have to come to you and tell you this I
really don't like speaking so I'd rather
stay quiet and listen to other people
talk You all know Dark Shade of Magic
basically is like Londons There's all
these different Londons and these
alternative worlds and we're following a
character who can kind of move between
them Red London black London white
London I did not enjoy this at
all I know so many people love it I know
so many people I didn't enjoy it at
all Again a victim of me struggling with
fantasy for some reason but I didn't
care about the characters When you read
the reviews for this like people are
like crazy about the characters People
love them They're like characters people
love I I was like this is like every
other I've read this man like lovable
like brave male protagonist and then
like quirky I'm like other girls girl
I've I've read them 10,000 times I don't
really understand what we're doing here
The plot was so boring to me There was
like a [ __ ] rock we had to get back
to somewhere It was so boring I don't
think I I don't think I'm I'm ready I'm
not I I don't feel willing to defend
myself on the world stage about this
Here's the thing When you dislike a book
that is so popular I feel like people
expect you to have strong feelings about
it and opinions I don't have any
thoughts or opinions about this book To
me it's just so bland and so blah And it
doesn't feel like what I know from VE
Schwab I've read a lot of V Schwab I
love Invisible Life Fu I enjoyed gallant
There's other ones I'm forgetting Oh
Vicious and Vengeful This doesn't feel
like V Schwab to me This feels like she
was still trying to figure out maybe
what author she wanted to be and like
her style It feels just very like
derivative of a lot of other like epic
fantasy to me and I feel like some what
she writes now is very unique and has a
really distinctive tone to it and I
didn't feel it in this book So I know I
know this isn't popular opinion I don't
really want to talk about it I didn't
love it It was boring There was certain
characters and and worlds of certain
Londons that were really interesting but
we didn't explore them enough And yeah
that's it And I'd say my worst book that
I read this month not this month this
quarter is The Anxious Generation by
Jose Jonathan Joseph Jonathan Hate Don't
even know the guy's name Sorry So I read
this for my reading the Goodreads Choice
Awards winners vlog which we'll have
some positives for in a second but this
one non-fiction and I don't want to get
into everything again There's a lot of
problems with this guy's views but
basically he's just like everything
that's wrong in the world social media
is to blame Children being on social
media is to blame Everything that like
every mental illness everything that
they struggle with like you need to just
get them off social media And I just
feel like it is so simplistic It's a
very simplistic answer to a very complex
problem Do I agree that there's huge
problems with how you know young people
interact with social media how social
media algorithms feed certain content to
young people Absolutely I I think I
think it's a huge factor but I don't
believe it's the only factor And his
viewpoint is just so like one note and
refusing to budge in any direction There
were certain moments where he'd say he'd
talk about a certain thing that like you
know young adults struggle with nowadays
and just like put all the on social
media I'm like well what about this
factor What about this factor And he was
like no it's all this No one should be
on social media till they're 16 And like
D And I just don't feel like what he's
saying is very realistic in terms of
like what he says people should do going
forward And I don't feel like his I
think it's just so I think it's so
simplistic what he's saying I I just
yeah I didn't enjoy it And like there's
certain moments where he like he he
provides a bit of like data and I'm like
you could also withdraw this from this
data and he just refuses to I just found
it a bit of annoying read and it's so
dry It's not very well written either
It's not engaging It's not interesting
He's just repeating himself again and
again and again And I thought what this
book was going to be more about was like
the different reasons why we are such an
anxious generation You know he's talking
about people my age really Like I kind
of like came on to social media really
as it was blowing up Like I Facebook was
really popular but then also Twitter was
up and coming and Instagram was up and
like it was all kind of like beginning
around the time I was like 12 and 13
these other social media sites And so
like he's talking about me and I'm like
yes I think there's like huge reasons as
to why social media has perpetuated
these things but there's also other
reasons and it just was too too
simplistic for
me Okay time to talk about now the best
which is much more positive and exciting
to talk about So I actually had five
five stars in the first quarter which is
perfect I didn't have to like admit any
five stars Um my first one number five
is at number five because it's a reread
This is actually one of my favorite
books but like in terms of reading this
book for the first time versus rereading
it it's a different level of enjoyment
So it's Murder on the Uran Express by
Etha Christie The duality of this woman
to have one on the worst and one on the
best I love this book It's one of my
favorite men of mysteries I think it's
absolutely iconic But like if you've
read this book reading it for the first
time and not clocking the twist and like
experiencing the twist is going to be
like that's why it's one of my favorite
books Rereading it was very interesting
I think it was interesting to see the
clues that she'd laid it Like I think a
good murder mystery is one that you
can't clock when you're reading it but
when you're rereading it it feels so
obvious And that's how this feels I was
like "Oh my god." She was basically
telling us the whole time "You genius
Agatha you're so clever Oh my god you're
so clever." I love this book I I mean
I've spoken about this a lot We don't
need to dwell on it but I reread it for
my patron book club and it was really
fun to read with everyone and I just
think it's I think this is probably like
to me Agatha's Magnum Opus Like some
people were saying and then there Were
None I feel like it's between And then
there Were None and this and for me it's
this I love Malia Express I love the
isolated setting I love the train
setting I love the twist I love the
characters I love the format You know
Parro sitting down and interviewing each
person on the train I think it's such
like an interesting formulaic but like
it feels so fresh format I love it I
love Midan Express but it was a reread
and so that's why it's at number five
The next two books were both in that
Good Reads Choice Awards winners vlog So
although we had one bad book we did have
two five star standouts First is The
Wedding People which is about a woman
who is planning on unaliving herself and
she goes to this hotel where she is the
only guest at this hotel that is not
there for a wedding that's taking place
She meets the bride and they hit it off
and form a friendship and it's the story
of their relationship and friendship
basically I loved this book I thought it
was a very very funny It's a very funny
book which like the synopsis doesn't
sound like it's going to be but I think
it towed the line of like talking about
this very serious topic whilst also
talking about how wonderful it is to
live and how how much beauty there is in
life I can see people having issues I
said in the vlog like the way that it
handles that mental health crisis of her
planning to go to this hotel to unal
alive herself I can understand people
having issues with it but I can also see
people resonating with it You know I
think like there's no I don't think with
that topic a book can really have like a
portrayal that feels accurate to
everyone because everyone's experiences
will be so different But I thought this
was just a really beautiful book It was
funny I really loved the characters The
characters all felt very vivid on the
page to me I could see them I could
imagine them They all felt like real
people I was surprised by how much I
enjoyed this I did not expect to enjoy
it Thank god it won fiction If I had had
to read into by Sally Rooney that would
be I would be so upset I would be so
upset And I would never have read this
book had it not won And I loved the
journey that these characters have in a
very short amount of time It's like a
weekend with each other The discoveries
they make about themselves I loved it
Coming in at number three is Funny Story
by Emily Henry Now this came at a time
when I'd really been struggling to read
and I read this and I was like "God it's
so great to read again." This is by far
my favorite Emily Henry We've got two
characters who each of their partners
cheated on them and left them for each
other basically And she moves in with
him cuz he needs a roommate She needs
somewhere to live cuz the boyfriend is
like "You have a week I'm going to go on
a nice romantic holiday with my new
girlfriend and you have a week to find
somewhere to live." and they move in
together decide to fake date because
they both get invited to the wedding
that these characters are now having and
it just goes from there And I just it
was exactly what I need in the moment It
was I have since read another romance
that you'll see in this weekend's vlog
that tops this So in my mind I'm like
thinking of that one a little bit but I
really do enjoy Emily Henry and this is
my favorite from her so far I've also
read what have I read from her Beachreed
and Happy Place I think are the only
ones I've read from her before This is
by far my favorite so far I understand
why she's as popular as she is She's
still like I still feel tentative to
call her my girly though in the way I do
with Ali Hazerwood and Abby Jimenez I
just think this is like formulaically
the perfect romance It had everything I
want in a romance It had the right
journey that I wanted in a romance I
believe in
love and yeah I just it was exactly what
I did in the moment I needed something
fun I needed something silly and it was
exactly that Okay Then the top two I
really struggled to like place at two
and one They're interchangeable I
reserve the right to change this in the
future Like if my 10 favorite books of
the year they could swap around I don't
really know I'm on any given day even
like I made this list yesterday and
today I'm like do I feel like that I
don't know I need to think about this
Just they're basically tied So yeah just
just whatever Number two is the final
act of Juliet Willoughby Guys you need
to read this book Barely anyone has read
this book It is so good is so good We're
following a story that has key points in
three different timelines One is in 1938
in Paris Julia Willoughby who is an ays
but also an artist perishes in a fire
with her lover and her most famous
painting self-portrait as Sphinx Then in
Cambridge in 1991 which is the main
timeline for the first half of this book
there are two art students who are
working together to kind of like uncover
her legacy and find out more about her
cuz she's kind of been lost to history
And then most of the second half is set
in Dubai in the present day as an art
dealer is accused of the murder of his
friend as he's auctioning off this
painting self-portrait as Sphinx perhaps
I loved this It is about forgotten women
in history and bringing them back to
life And you'll know I love reading
non-fiction about forgotten women
history It was really a real interest of
mine Women's stories matter Yeah they
just matter They do You know but it is
just this perfectly down to mystery The
art history world and art deal world is
very interesting The characters all like
burst off the page run off the page It's
a perfectly paced mystery It deals with
these different timelines so so well It
we know I have issues with timelines It
works really well for me that like the
first half of the book is mainly set in
one timeline with like flash forwards
and backs to the other timelines and
then we swap that to one of the other
timelines mostly the second half with
again flashbacks and backs No that's all
backs cuz it's all that's the present
timeline I think this is a great book I
think it's a wonderful book and not
enough people are reading it I think it
just feels it feels so well researched
At the back the authors cuz this is like
a husband and wife writing duo They've
left like a bibliography of of books
that have informed different elements of
this book It is so good It's so good
It's a little bit dark academia cuz it's
set at Cambridge in the first half There
is just so much to love about this book
and I need more people to read it Barely
anyone's read it So many people have
read The Club by them and like this I
that hasn't got a great rating Don't be
scared off This book is wonderful It is
so well written The writing voice seems
so accomplished I cannot shut up about
it evidently I loved this book so much
So please please go check it out And
then number one again this this and that
can interchange but it is Disney High by
Ashley Spencer This is non-fiction about
the Disney Channel in my era It is
That's Raven It is Hannah Montana It is
Sweet Life High School Musical Oh my god
the two chapters in High School
Musical Killed me Ashley Spencer has
interviewed so many people both stars
but people behind the scenes during this
time directors producers in the Disney
Channel Empire And I grew up on Disney
Channel I loved the Disney Channel I
loved Husky Music I loved Hannah Montana
Like I loved Money Sus I love Jonas
Brothers Like this was my era There was
like the highest school chapters were a
standout to me It was like certain like
insights that blew me away Like Ryan and
Sharpi hated each other in real life and
Kenny Kenny Kenny Ortega was working
these kids like the military I love
watching like sometimes on Twitter the
algorithm will just suddenly give me
loads of behindthe-scenes High School
Musical content and I just love it I
just eat it up every single time High
School Musical to me is the greatest
kids films ever made So good And so I
loved this book It was so fascinating
hearing all these little insights You're
hearing about how Zach and Vanessa first
started dating or like on Hannah Montana
Like Miley's journey in that was really
interesting and like I loved Miley I was
a member of Miley World Miles to Go
greatest autobiography ever written I
had so much fun reading this It was
literally like my childhood It was the
perfect non-fiction to me It reminded me
of Reach for the Stars by Michael Craig
which I read last year which was a
history of like British pop but that was
a little bit before my time whereas this
is firmly like my childhood And so it
was full of nostalgia If you watch the
Disney Channel if you watch these shows
I cannot recommend reading this enough
Also the audio book is voiced by Miranda
from Lizzie Magcguire which is such an
interesting dynamic especially when
she's like talking about stuff that
happened to her basically when she like
left Lizzie Maguire um and wasn't in the
movie and stuff So yes I loved it I
loved it so much and it was just such a
fun read and also my first book of the
year which was just such a way to start
off my reading year So there we have it
everyone That was my Courtley wrap-up
I've been yapping for quite some time so
I'm going to head off But let me know
how your first quarter of the reading
year went Did you have any standouts
What were some of your bests and worsts
And thank you so much for watching and
I'll see you very soon in another video
Bye
