Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a kind and gentle girl named Cinderella.
She had a heart as pure as gold and a spirit full of dreams.
But her life was not easy.
After her mother passed away, her father remarried, bringing home a proud and cruel woman with two equally unkind daughters.
When Cinderella's father too left the world, her stepmother's true nature was revealed.
From that day on, Cinderella was no longer treated as part of the family.
Her stepmother gave her nothing but rags to wear and made her do all the household chores.
She scrubbed the floors, cooked the meals and tended to every need of her selfish stepmother and stepsisters.
They laughed at her, calling her Cinderella because she was always covered in ashes from cleaning the fireplace.
Yet, through all the hardships, she never lost her kindness nor the hope that one day her life would change.
Then, one day, a grand invitation arrived from the royal palace.
The prince was hosting a magnificent ball and every maiden in the kingdom was invited.
Excitement filled the air as Cinderella's stepsisters prepared their finest gowns, dreaming of catching the prince's eye.
Cinderella too longed to go.
She found an old dress of her mother's and carefully began mending it, hoping she could join the festivities.
But when her stepsisters saw her dress, they tore it apart, leaving her heartbroken.
As she ran to the garden, tears streaming down her cheeks, a warm glow surrounded her.
Suddenly, a gentle voice spoke.
Why are you crying, my dear?
Cinderella looked up and saw a kindly old woman holding a shimmering wand.
I am your fairy godmother and you, my child, shall go to the ball.
With a wave of her wand, Cinderella's rags transformed into a gown of silk and sparkling jewels.
On her feet appeared delicate glass slippers, shining like the stars.
A pumpkin turned into a golden carriage and mice became magnificent horses.
Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes.
But remember, said the fairy godmother, this magic will only last until the clock strikes midnight.
After that, everything will return to how it was.
With a heart full of joy, Cinderella stepped into the carriage and rode to the palace.
The ballroom was filled with laughter, music and dazzling lights.
But the moment Cinderella entered, a hush fell over the crowd.
The prince's eyes met hers and he was enchanted.
He took her hand and together they danced beneath the shimmering chandeliers.
Never before had Cinderella felt so happy.
But then the clock began to chime.
Dong! Dong! Midnight was near.
Cinderella gasped and fled from the palace, racing down the grand staircase.
In her hurry, one of her glass slippers slipped off, but she couldn't stop.
She ran to her carriage just as the final chime rang.
In an instant, her gown became rags again.
The carriage turned back into a pumpkin and the horses became mice once more.
But the glass slipper remained.
The next morning, the prince declared he would marry the maiden whose foot fit the glass slipper.
He searched the kingdom, visiting every home.
When he arrived at Cinderella's house, her stepsisters pushed forward eagerly.
But no matter how hard they tried, their feet would not fit.
Then Cinderella stepped forward.
The slipper slid onto her foot perfectly.
At that moment, the prince recognized her and his heart filled with joy.
You are the one I have been searching for, he said.
Come with me and be my princess.
With tears of happiness in her eyes, Cinderella left behind the ashes of her old life and rode to the palace.
There she and the prince were married in a grand celebration,
and Cinderella lived happily ever after, never to be mistreated again.
Moral. Kindness, patience and hope can turn dreams into reality.
