A Not So Typical Side Hustle To Try in 2025 (Even If You're Busy!)

Etsy, craft fairs, and custom orders. Around here at Makers Going to Learn, we have done it all. But what if I told you that there was a side hustle that you could do that is not going to give you that creative burnout that you keep experiencing? I'm talking a side hustle that is different, that is unique, that still allows you to use that creative energy and pour it into something that is going to actually create a profit. If you're a busy maker and you want to learn what I'm talking about today, I want you to stick around because I have got the best side hustles in 2025 that you are not going to want to miss. The first one I want to talk about is selling digital files. Now, this could be a little bit daunting if you don't have any design experience, but I'm here to tell you that with the right tools, you can start creating digital files today. If you've never heard of Canva, it is a free software that you can use to create all sorts of things. Guys, I am talking about planner pages, coloring pages, your own PGs and SVGs. The options and opportunities are endless. Truly. And we do have a course here at Makers Going to Learn. If you're like, I really would like to get into designing, but I'm not that comfortable yet. This is a great place to start if you're wanting to start designing. Um, but I'll also say that you can start creating files that sell well with a lot of minimalistic style. So, you don't have to do anything super crazy. You can start simply with an image and some text. And you really don't have to do anything super crazy. But, if you're wanting to kind of dive in deeper to how to create these like very intricate designs and things along those lines, a course is really going to be beneficial for you. There are also some other websites such as KD which we are starting to kind of familiarize ourselves with a little bit more here at Makers going to learn and they have a really really great software that you all can use. They have a paid and a free version I believe. Um but they have lots of AI features on there that help assist you in creating these beautiful pieces and designs that you can sell on your own Etsy shop. AI is such a new tool that people have been using. So, it seems a little bit scary, but I promise if you can start getting comfortable using AI, it's going to help you so much in your creative journey, and it's really going to allow you to jump start that Etsy shop that you've always dreamed of creating. So, this is something that you all can do and make a profit on Etsy. Most of the designs, they're going to range in prices from $5 all the way up to $20 depending on how you're marketing yourself and what types of designs that you are selling. Typically, if you're doing a handdrawn design, then those are going to sell for a little bit more. And if you're creating something that is more AI generated or just something a little bit more generic, it's going to be a little bit lower. But that is something that you can decide on your own. I'm going to show you guys today in Canva a fun little app that you can use and start creating your own digital files today. And honestly, you all, it's so easy. You're going to be like, "Oh, I'm sold. I'm going to do this." So, let's go ahead and jump over into Canva, and I'm going to show you all how to do that. So, we are in Canva, which is a software I mentioned before. We use this all the time here at Makers Going to Learn. We do tutorials on it. We use it for our business. I use it personally. So, it's a really, really good, easy to navigate software. I want to mention that it's super easy and userfriendly. So, I have just pulled up an 8 1/2 by 11 document. But where I want to jump into is our apps over here. So, right here on the bottom left, I'm going to select apps. Now, there are a ton that it'll show you like trending ones, AI powered ones, and all sorts of different options. So, this app is called Font Studio. No spaces. And then you can see here we have lots of different templates. First of all, how stinking cute are these? There are so many different options to play around with. When you guys get in here, it is so fun to play with these things. I'm just going to select my favorite one, which is this playtime. And what it's going to do is pop up this little diagram box. And you're going to need to put in whatever text you want. So, let's say that you want to start an Etsy shop and you want to sell designs to teachers. So, you want to sell cute little t-shirt designs for teachers specifically. So, let's just start with first grade. And I'm going to do this in all caps. Okay? You could leave it like that, right? But I want to show you how you can really get in here and customize this. Now, this would be pretty difficult to do on your own if you were just wanting to create something that looks similar to this. Um, but that's the beauty in having these apps on Canva because you can kind of let it do the work for you. Now, I'm going to go ahead and come in here and pick a new font. You can scroll until you find one that you like. I love this play for display. That's really cute. You can also play around with the alignment as well as the letter spacing. So, if they're kind of on top of each other, you can see we can space it out. You can make itallic. I don't know that that's necessarily for us today. And then there's also a letter fill option. So, you can fill it with a color. Let's just put a color in for example. And you can see that it's filled this in. or you could fill it in with an image. So, let's click on image. I'm going to go to the Makers going to learn website really fast and I'm going to get a pattern that we have that is in my brain. It is called it's like a composition book pattern and I think it's going to look really cute for this specific design cuz we are doing for teachers. So, we're going to go to cut files and this is the Makers going to learn website. If you all are new around here, our website contains tons of different files and fonts for you to choose from for your projects. And it also comes with commercial licensing whenever you join our membership. So, I'm going to use this composition pattern. I'm just going to download that. It's going to pop into a folder and then we're going to open it up. I'm going to go to choose file and then open up that folder and select PNG. And then, as you can see, it has filled my letters with that composition pattern. Now, here in a second, we're going to make this a lot bigger so you all can really see what's going on. Now, there are special effects options. So, I can actually change how the letters are tilted. I can put them more in line with each other if I want to. I actually kind of do like them a little bit more in line together, but still kind of off. And then you can also change the colors of the outline and the projection. So, I'm going to change the colors of the projection just to show you all the difference. So, let's just pick some primary colors. We're going to do red, yellow, and blue. And then you can see the fronts are still the original colors. So, the outline color, I'm going to change those to the same one. So, red, yellow, and blue. And feel free to pick whatever colors you want. Right? This is just just for fun. And then we can also add a layer if you wanted, but I feel like these are pretty thick, so I don't want to do anything crazy like that. I do want to adjust the projection. So if you want it to be a little less, let's scroll up. See how it's a little bit less there? You can also adjust the outline if you want it to be a little bit thinner, which I think I do. So I made it a little bit thinner. I am going to actually bring the letters closer together now that I've done that. So, like I said, you can just kind of play around with this until you get it exactly how you want it. And then you can add it to your design. And I'm going to go ahead and make this bigger. Now, you can get a really good visual for what this looks like. I mean, that's so cute. And we just created that in just a few minutes. And the beauty in this is that if you wanted to sell this individual file, you can simply come in here and we're going to type in second and then hit add to design. And look, we have another file. Okay. And you can just kind of keep going until you've got all the grades. And if you wanted to, you can sell these in bulk. So you can offer one file for $4.99, $5, or you can bulk them all together and they can buy every grade. So if all the grades want matching shirts, they can purchase these for $15, $20, whatever price you want to put on it, and then you have made yourself a little extra money. So, the idea here is to utilize these softwares to do the work for you. Once you learn how to kind of navigate your way around these different softwares, it's really not that hard, you guys. And once you get comfortable with it, you're going to be like, "Oh my gosh, this is so easy. You're going to be making money when you're sleeping, making money when you're at the park, and you're not even going to notice it." This is what we call passive income.
