As of now, we know Jinshi as a 24-year-old eunuch working in rear palace.
However, in the recent episodes, Jinshi's real age was revealed to be 19,
and he was present at the ceremony which is specifically held for royal bloods.
So who is Jinshi exactly?
At first, it was revealed that he is the former emperor's and current empress
Dowager Lady Anshi's son.
That is, current emperor's younger brother, or the imperial brother,
who is next in line for the throne.
But the real truth was revealed later that
Jinshi is actually the current emperor's and Lady Aduo's son.
Let's dig into the past.
That time, both Lady Anshi and Lady Aduo gave birth at the same time.
Aduo needed urgent medical attention, but she knew that the former emperor's child,
who was born at the same time, would be prioritized first in terms of safety.

Jinshi had a good relationship with Aduo while she was in the palace.
Aduo invited him over to the Garnet Pavilion to drink the day before she left.
He continued to maintain a positive relationship with her.
As a child, Jinshi once thought the current emperor was his father
until the previous emperor made his visit.
He has a tense relationship with the current emperor.
Though he largely supports his policies and works for the sake of his country,
he has strongly opposed the emperor's plans to make him the crown prince ever since he was a child.
In order to avoid this fate, he made a bet with the emperor in order to work as a eunuch
instead of as the imperial brother, and after he returned to his role as imperial brother,
he branded himself with Gyokuyu's emblem in order to declare that he could never
usurp the current crown prince and become emperor.
