The way home: From the Streets to Service—how Darrell is Giving Back

Born into homelessness, Officer Darrell Samuel spent his childhood moving between hotels and shelters. Despite the struggles, his family found a path out through the care of Union Rescue Mission. There, they received not only food, clothing, and housing—but access to life-changing programs that transformed their future. Darrell describes Union Rescue Mission as both a blessing and a security blanket.

Today, Darrell serves with the Santa Monica Police Department as part of the homeless liaison team. Just as URM once helped him, he now helps others connect with critical services, approaching each person with compassion, understanding, and hope.

From once being unhoused to becoming a homeowner, Darrell is living proof that with the right support, you can find your way home.
