It's so good!
It's like a Singaporean McDonald's burger.
Eh, really?
It's really like that.
I think they go and steam the bread or something.
The bread is very fluffy and a bit sweet.
It's a legendary mala duck here that producer Lawrence has been raving about.
Look at that, it's glistening.
The grilled fish, that one you guys recommend.
Sit until I can fly like that.
All the fat just creates that very nice crusty exterior part.
Very good, very good.
Wah, it's so good eh.
Wah, I got a...
Best thing I've tasted today.
Okay, good morning people.
Wah, today damn early.
Today is a full day of eating.
Top 10 places that you guys must visit when you guys are here in Taipei, Taiwan.
Some of the places are via research.
Some of the places are recommended by you guys.
So it's a mix of everything.
Big thank you to the tourism board here in Taipei, Taiwan.
They sort of like facilitated this tour.
Invited us over here.
Got us into this lovely hotel as well.
This hotel is called Jim Ping.
The English name, I'm not going to try to pronounce.
I scared I butchered it.
Very lovely hotel.
Very cosy and also very accessible.
Right beside Taipei Main Station.
And also to EVA Air as well.
For actually flying us over Premium Economy.
I'll be giving away tickets at the end of the video.
So stay till the end.
Okay, anyways, we're going to start this tour.
I'm going to head out now.
We're meeting Xiaohui at this OG breakfast place.
Very excited.
Let's head out there.
I'll talk to you guys more.
Come, let's go.
You're so welcome.
This is my half-serving.
Thank you.
You said you like this peanut.
There are 6 of them.
I bought 6 boxes.
She's super nice.
She got for the entire team.
I'm not that familiar with Taipei's breakfast scene.
So she's the best person to sort of like bring me around.
This place is called Dalong Dong.
So there's a lot of OG breakfast places.
She mentioned that all the places that she's going to show me
is all above 30 years old.
This is the place.
Wow.
It doesn't have a specific sign.
But it's super popular.
It's actually sold out.
So the owner is here to chat with us.
Thank you.
This is super nice.
Actually, this place has a name.
It's called Xiong Huizhang Youfan.
Xiong Huizhang Youfan.
And what's special about their Youfan is
that you'll get to taste the pure flavor of the Youfan.
Okay, okay.
So let's quickly go in and eat.
Okay, let's go in now.
A bit different from what I visualize it to be.
You know in Singapore,
the soy sauce and everything is actually infused inside.
They cook the rice with the soy sauce.
So the rice is a lot darker.
This one, they added some sort of sauce on top though.
And then they serve it with the soup as well.
There's duck blood.
There is radish.
Ginger.
Intestines as well.
Oh, it looks good.
Wow, very heavy for breakfast though.
This is their signature Youfan.
And this bowl is the mixed soup.
Mixed soup.
People who come here to order
usually order one Youfan and one mixed soup.
Do you usually mix the Youfan together?
Or how do you eat it?
It depends on you.
Some people like to eat the pure flavor of the Youfan.
The signature feature is the braised pork sauce on top.
Oh, okay.
You can eat it with the sauce.
I think it's delicious.
Isn't it?
The rice is very grainy.
The soul of this thing is all about the sauce.
This sauce is like a braise.
Kind of like a radish sauce.
Inside there's mincemeat as well.
The braised sauce is special.
So you'll think it's a bit thicker.
Yes, yes, yes.
It's a bit sweeter, right?
Yes, it's a bit sweeter.
Yes, it's moderately sweet.
I think it goes well with the Youfan.
I like that they slice up the ginger like that.
So you can eat the ginger actually.
It's not just for garnishing.
What's the duck blood?
It should be the pig blood.
Pig blood?
There's a difference between pig blood and duck blood.
Pig's blood, not duck's blood.
The pig blood in this shop is special
because it's more chewy and it absorbs more soup.
Do you like it?
Yes.
Overall, I would say it's not bad.
A good way to start the day.
Not my kind of breakfast.
Because for my breakfast, I need protein.
What should we eat for the second soup?
So this entire street,
it's a very good place for you to start the day in Taipei.
All the old-school shops here.
Not just this, there's another three to four stalls
that we'll be trying.
We're going to move on now.
Let's go.
They actually roll it fresh
and then they straightaway dump it in.
And then after that, they crack it into the oil.
And then after that, they'll sort of combine it together.
My kind of drink.
It tastes like ground peanut that is mixed into this mixture.
The consistency is very thick.
Thicker than a milkshake.
But it's good, it's good.
It's very cold, very cooling.
You can taste a bit of peanuts, a bit of oats in there.
Not bad, not bad.
This thing can be very filling.
Ta-da!
This is the fried egg cake.
I think what's special about it is
that it's very similar to fried scallion pancake.
Yes.
Because it has scallions in it.
Let's try it.
It looks so delicious.
It's so good!
Wah, this is incredible.
The egg cake on the outside
I think it's already at the level of crispiness.
It's not just crispy, it also has a crispy texture.
Yes.
And the soft part of the cake inside is chewy, it's chewy.
They deep fried the thing, everything.
I thought it's going to be very oily.
It's not.
For some odd reason,
they added this pepper kind of mixture on top.
A bit salty, a bit peppery.
And then what really hits me when I bite into this
is the taste of the scallion.
The scallion, it will hit you right away.
And then after that, you taste the egg
which is the radish inside.
No need to add the chilli.
Wah, this is very good.
Oh, wow.
This is meat and rice noodles,
and this is meat and soup.
Wah, this is what I will eat for breakfast.
The speciality here is the rice noodle soup.
Oh, the roasted garlic.
Straight away, the smell will hit you.
I really like the soup.
I think the soup is very thick
but it's also very refreshing.
Yes, the meat is a bit bouncy.
It doesn't taste processed at all.
It's delicious.
It's delicious. I really like this.
The sides, right, you got the pig's mouth meat
which I don't know which part is it.
The pig's mouth meat is the pig's mouth.
This is the pig's mouth meat.
I got the pig's heart.
I've never had it before
but according to the locals here,
this is good.
Is there pig's heart in Singapore?
I think so.
Some people will eat it with ginger,
some people will eat it alone.
Oh, I'll just eat it straight away.
You can dip it in a bit of sauce.
Dip it in a bit of sauce.
Do you like it?
It's not bad.
It doesn't have a very strong smell.
You can taste the meat in the intestines.
Yes, yes, yes.
It's chewy.
What about this?
You can try the pig's mouth meat.
The texture is like
half meat and half tendon.
I think it's not bad.
The pig's mouth meat has a bit of
tendon in there.
It looks a bit like beef brisket.
Okay, let's go.
This is the one that more people will order.
I really like the texture.
Oh, this is delicious.
Isn't it?
This is delicious.
The meat is very tender.
It will make you feel that
the more you chew, the more fragrant the meat will be.
Yes, it will.
Because Zemin dares to eat this,
he can share the spicy taste.
I think I can challenge him.
I think I can.
I'll help you.
The black one is spicier, so I'll eat the red one.
The red one is more fragrant.
It's not spicy.
Because the red pepper is fragrant.
Yes.
It's a fragrant pepper and meat mixed together.
It's not vinegary.
Taiwan's chili is very potent.
It hits you right away.
It doesn't have much depth.
That's one thing that I think is lacking.
Hit is what you're looking for.
All their chilies are hits.
This is the restaurant.
O.G. Breakfast.
There are egg cakes, hamburgers, and fries.
And I want you to try
Taiwan's radish cake.
It's too expensive.
Yes, you learn Chinese too fast.
Yes.
Crispy pancake, cheese egg cake,
spicy chicken leg, spicy and not spicy,
and a radish cake with onion and egg.
Which one do you like?
Do you like the mushroom one
or the black pepper one?
Which one do you like?
I like the mushroom one.
Then I'll have the mushroom one.
You're really good at everything.
Spring is here.
Come.
Thank you.
You're so generous.
That means you're very considerate.
Is this an egg cake?
Yes, it's different from the previous one.
This egg cake is fried.
My favourite flavour is
the crispy pancake
with cheese inside.
This is like the pancake.
It's pretty similar to the one that we had earlier.
But this one,
inside, they added hash browns
and cheese as well.
Okay, should we start with this one?
Yes, let's start with this one.
There's ketchup and soy sauce on the side.
Do you usually dip it in ketchup?
I usually don't dip it in ketchup.
But some other restaurants
will put the ketchup on the side first.
Okay.
The hash browns add so many layers to it.
So the exterior is a bit chewy.
Inside, the hash browns will hit you right away.
It's super crunchy, super crispy.
This is the one that you had in Taiwan.
That's right.
I'm going to dip it into that sweet sauce.
It looks very crispy on the exterior.
It's super soft and it just disintegrates.
It tastes something similar to orge.
The orge that we ate in Singapore.
But this one, again, they added the scallion.
It's very different.
But this one is actually one that I like.
And it's very affordable.
With the egg, it's 50 NTD.
Which is about 2 bucks.
This sauce, right?
It's something like oyster sauce,
but a lot saltier.
So if you add this in, it's going to be very salty.
Personal preference, okay?
I wouldn't add this in.
Originally, it's very good already.
It's very similar to a McDonald's burger in Singapore.
Really?
It's very similar.
It smells very similar as well.
Try it.
You'll probably like it.
It's chicken thigh.
So it tastes very tender.
That's right, it's chicken thigh.
I think they go and steam the bread or something.
The bread is very fluffy and a bit sweet.
Then they added some sort of tomato sauce or something.
I'm not sure what.
We're done with breakfast.
Pretty heavy breakfast.
We're going to go for a walk.
Because it's still kind of early.
For lunch,
Mahala hotpot restaurant that is very famous in Taipei.
We're going to go there and try
the duck blood mala broth or something.
So we're going to go there and see how this goes.
We are here at the east area.
They call it Dong Qu.
We're here at this hotpot called Ding Wang.
Okay.
Highly raved and recommended by my producer.
He said it's like the best
mala duck blood hotpot.
Pretty excited.
I can smell the mala from level 1.
Now we're going to eat the duck blood.
Second floor.
We've got
Niu Xiao Pai.
And then that one.
Yi Bi Li Zhu.
This is the legendary mala duck blood that
producer Lawrence has been raving about.
Okay, look at that.
Glistening.
Let me try it.
Okay.
You look happy.
Good.
It's good.
Okay, let's try it.
You can smell the broth.
It's not too spicy.
There's a lot of Chinese herbs in it.
I think their mala broth is drinkable.
The tofu is good too.
You can try it.
This is the essence of the mala.
Which one do you want?
Okay, thank you.
Thank you.
Everything that goes into the broth
comes out like a different thing.
The tofu is quite big.
But you won't think
that it's a bad tofu.
It won't be hard.
Yeah, it won't be hard.
But the whole piece is tender.
It's amazing.
I like it.
Okay, let me try it.
Niu Xiao Pai.
I think this hotpot
doesn't need any special seasoning.
You can just eat the original mala flavor.
I feel like this one,
I like the ratio.
Because some is way too fatty.
But this one,
you actually taste the meat,
the protein and everything.
In Singapore, we use the tofu skin.
The rolled up bean curd skin.
In Taiwan, they use this one.
You Tiao.
Which is the Chinese donut.
You can eat this very quickly.
It depends on the person.
I think I can eat it in one go.
Because I want to keep the crispiness.
Yeah, it's crispy.
So you really didn't think about
just eating happily?
Yeah, I'm eating happily right now.
It's very relaxing to eat with you.
Okay, let me try the You Tiao.
Okay, the texture is way more crispier.
But it doesn't suck up as much juice
as the bean curd skin.
I'm going to try the Iberico pork as well.
Wow, I like the pork.
I prefer pork.
You're the same as me.
When I was doing the challenge,
I said that I prefer pork.
Other than pork,
this one doesn't have that kind of
pork smell.
The quality of this meat is very good.
Of course, you can eat it in the best way.
You're so nice to me.
This is the 3-second crispy fish skin.
It's the same concept as You Tiao.
You just need to put it in for 3 seconds.
I usually don't put it in.
I usually eat it when it's crispy.
Really?
Because it's 3-second crispy.
Wow, it smells good.
It smells good. I like it.
Xiao Fei treated me to abalone.
When we went to Singapore,
you also took good care of us.
What did I do?
You took good care of us.
Oh, the abalone is very tender.
Oh?
Try it.
It's not hard.
Have you tried this before?
Or is it your first time?
This restaurant is recommended by a friend.
Oh, okay.
I'm so happy to eat with you today.
Me too.
It's even better.
I'm happy to eat anything with you.
Oh, thank you.
Is your mouth always this sweet?
No.
Xiao Hui made a super big shrimp ball.
Xiao Hui's special version.
It's shrimp ball from Hui City.
I think it will be very enjoyable to eat.
It's very bouncy.
Okay, I'm going to try this.
Xiao Hui's...
What's the name of the shrimp ball?
It's scallop ball.
Which one do you like better, the shrimp ball or the scallop ball?
I like both.
Oh, thank you.
When will you come to Taiwan next time?
Because it's been a few days since we ate hotpot together, right?
That's right.
But I will come again.
I can't finish all the videos in Taiwan.
So I will come again.
Do you want to come again?
When you take me to your house...
You want to come to my house?
No, I mean...
You said that...
My mum will be angry.
No, I'm just kidding.
Is there any old street in your area?
Yes, there is an old street in Zhang Hua Road.
There are many delicious food on the road.
What's the famous food in Zhang Hua?
Kung Pao.
Oh, Kung Pao.
Do you know the meatball?
Is it sticky?
Meatball.
There are also fried meatballs.
There are many kinds of meatballs in Zhang Hua.
I want to go.
Sure.
People behind the camera can't wait already.
We're going to order more food.
The rest of the people are just going to come in and eat together.
If it's not for her,
I would not wake up early in the morning,
7am,
to go and eat breakfast.
And I would not know of such a lovely mala place.
Super good duck's blood.
Okay, this one is very good.
I recommend this one as well.
But sadly, she will not be joining us for the rest of the trip.
We still got at least 5 more restaurants to cover.
Okay, so we're going to just quickly finish up this one.
And then we're going to bounce off to the next restaurant already.
Okay, so a big thank you to Xiaohui.
Remember to subscribe to her.
I'll be doing a hot pot challenge with her.
That one is quite interesting.
So stay tuned for that one.
Come on, everyone come in and eat.
Bye bye!
Bye bye, bye bye.
Carmen, bye bye.
Le Ye Mian Xie.
I'm not sure what's the English name,
but just call it Le Ye Mian Xie.
It's oysters and intestines,
which sounds good.
It's a very comforting,
very iconic thing to eat in Taiwan.
We order first,
then I show you guys.
So they have a little cauldron
that is doubling all the way.
And then they have a bunch of different stuff.
Intestines, you can see the braised intestines.
I think the smell is really coming from the braised intestines.
And then oysters.
Look at that.
Very hot.
And eating under this 35 degree weather is not fun also.
But we tried.
At the street.
Very garlicky.
They added like one whole heaping scoop of garlic in there.
Wow, all the stuff is at the bottom.
All that good stuff.
Okay, I'm going to try the intestine.
That intestine is so good.
Oh my god.
It's braised before they actually added it.
Braised to perfection.
Very fatty.
Very, very good.
So oyster, oyster.
I think it's just like pork cheek or something.
It's still sweet.
There's some seeds in there as well.
But then, a bit hard to film.
This is why I'm just going to stand here,
eat this and we're going to move.
Must try this one.
And very affordable.
This size is 60 and they give a lot of oysters.
Wow, a piece of meat as well.
Look at that.
We are going to this legendary beef noodle place.
I heard it's the best in the entire Taiwan area.
Not just Taipei.
Entire Taiwan.
So it's pretty near Taipei main station
and Ximending area.
Okay, let's go, let's go.
Back alley one leh.
Oh my god.
We are inside right now.
Very cosy little restaurant.
I've actually ordered two bowls of noodles.
One is the braised one
and one is the regular one or something.
But we'll see how.
Wait for the noodles to come.
Is there something special about your noodles?
The special thing is that it has elasticity.
So when you bite it, it's more elastic.
Guys, look at the fat.
Some of the meat.
These are the tendons.
And these are all the fat.
Thank you, boss.
You're welcome.
Okay, let me try your noodles.
Okay, sure.
Thank you.
We'll start with the original flavor.
Oh, the original flavor.
Then you can add a bit of
like pickled cabbage.
Pickled cabbage.
You can add fried pickled cabbage.
Or you can add a spoonful at a time and eat it slowly.
As for the fermented bean curd,
I personally would recommend
pairing it with the braised meat.
Okay, sure.
Because the braised meat is not seasoned.
Got it.
If you think it doesn't have any flavor,
you can add a bit of fermented bean curd to enhance the flavor.
Eat a piece of fermented bean curd first,
take three bites,
pair it with the meat,
then drink the soup.
Okay.
Then it will feel different.
Okay, I'll try it.
I'm going to try the original flavor.
The one that is a bit lighter first
before I go into this.
I thought it's going to be very rich and fatty broth,
but it's not.
The beefy flavor is not so prominent.
It tastes light,
but it's still packed with umami.
Oh, it's so comforting.
I need to get a piece of that meat.
I'm not sure which part.
It looks like brisket to me.
So tender.
Oh, it's so good.
Oh my god.
So, according to him,
since you put it in there,
you chill a bit,
and then you're followed by a piece of meat,
and then soup,
and then noodle or something.
Like fermented beans.
Yeah, it's so fun.
I'm going to move on to this one first.
The braised one.
It's so incredibly tender.
Add a bit of the pickled vegetables in there as well.
See if it elevates the taste.
Best thing I've tasted today.
Let's taste it with garlic.
The chili oil.
Oh, the chili oil is so flavorful.
So, I'm not even going to ask
which one should you guys pick.
Get both.
Both is good.
This one, you can taste more of the original beef flavor.
You can really taste the fat seeping out.
But this one, you get a bit more of that braised flavor.
Both is really good though.
But if I were to pick one,
I would pick the original.
Because I like the flavor.
The more you eat,
the more it starts to seep out and everything.
I feel like, for some odd reason,
the original one feels a lot more tender.
This fermented bean one is really good as well.
But my personal favorite is still garlic.
Cannot beat this.
Guys, they have Michelin.
Michelin beat Gourmet, I think.
For many, many years.
This blew me away, okay?
Super nice.
Okay, we're here.
We're excited for this one.
一品花雕鸡
I'm actually quite curious how this tastes.
I am visualizing it to be very gingery.
You can taste the wine and everything.
We're going to head in and we'll see how this tastes.
Let's go.
Okay, by the way, according to my producer,
this place, a lot of celebrities come here to eat.
It's not exactly what I visualized it to be.
I thought it's a lot more broth, like soupy and all.
This one looks like very braised to me.
Okay, I'm excited.
My god, it's so good.
I cannot wait to eat.
The chicken smells fantastic.
It's so incredibly tender.
It tastes like what, you know?
A cross between confound chicken and 麻油鸡.
Because it's braised, you know what I'm going to do?
I'm going to add in a bit of this sauce
into the rice.
It's so good.
You'll really taste the very strong, prominent wine flavour
when you're eating it with the rice.
When you drench the sauce in the rice.
This is medium heat.
If you cannot take spice, don't go for medium.
This one's got a good amount of heat already.
It's really all about the chicken.
The chicken is really damn good.
Very, very succulent.
If you guys like 麻油鸡, 100% you guys will like this.
麻油鸡 is more gingery.
This one is not that gingery.
This one is got more of that kick and a bit of that wine-y flavour.
So this one right,
you can actually add in your own favourite hotpot ingredient
to sort of like go with this
and then cook the vegetables and then eat it.
They recommended this.
The bottom, there's that sauce.
I'm going to dip it into the sauce.
Oh, this is so good.
I know there's no salted egg in there.
They added some sort of sauce that is a bit tangy.
Very nice glaze.
I'm going to get another one in.
Oh, this is so good.
Must order ah, this thing.
It's called 花枝.
Quite a bit of chicken ah, they give.
And they give 年糕 also ah.
My rice is already like that already ah.
Best service in the world.
We're going to move on to the next location.
Okay, last stop of the day.
I always save the best for the last ah, okay?
They only start operating at 9.30
but the queue is already forming up.
This place is called 阿财虱目鱼, okay?
Apparently, they serve虱目鱼
and a lot of you guys say they serve
the best 萝卜汤 in Taipei.
I really want to try their fish.
What's so special about this fish and all?
Look at that, guys.
9.30pm.
准准 one ah.
They don't open any earlier than this ah.
Okay, now time to head in.
The grilled fish.
That one you guys recommend.
Sit until I can fly at it.
Okay, sit, sit.
谢谢,谢谢.
谢谢.
Wow.
Look at that.
This one.
This is what I'm here for.
I'm going to squeeze in a bit of that 卡拉曼西.
I'm going to try this one first.
This one is pan-fried.
So the exterior is very crispy.
Then the inside right,
I wouldn't say it's milky
but the inside is very tender.
It just breaks apart.
Very creamy also.
This is a fatty fish for sure.
Not much bones in there.
So when they grill it,
all the fat just creates that very nice
crusty exterior part.
Very good, very good.
But the inside is also very creamy.
Wow, damn good.
There's nothing much for me to say.
It's just very good.
You guys just come here and try.
The legendary 萝卜汤
you guys have been raving about.
You guys think this is the best.
The time I ate the 胡锡章,
you guys think this one is like 10 times better.
No, no, no.
胡锡章 leh.
Okay, we try.
This one is very good.
It can rival 胡锡章 or even better.
I'm not kidding.
This one, the 萝卜汤 right,
the ratio I think is 70% fat.
Not much meat in there, all fat.
But it's very creamy also.
You can just keep downing.
If I'm doing a challenge today right,
I think I could eat 40 bones.
No joke.
Okay, in terms of the sauce
and the rice that is used right,
胡锡章 is better.
They are very particular about the rice.
This is just one type of rice.
It's a very light and gingery broth.
This is the exact same fish.
It's just this one is cooked inside the soup.
But this one is like pan-fried.
This one will have that fishy taste.
This one doesn't have any fishy taste at all.
But maybe some people fancy this kind of taste.
This is bamboo shoots.
I'm a big fan of bamboo shoots.
I'm going to try this and see if it's good.
Just this,
I could down like 6 bowls of rice.
It's a vegetable.
High in fibre.
Good for bowel movement.
So we come to the end of this day tour.
Ate like about 10 restaurants from morning to night.
With Xiaohui, with myself, with the team.
I'm going to consolidate my thoughts for today.
And I'm going to do a giveaway.
It's a very serious giveaway.
Really be giving away a pack of air tickets.
Okay, I'll talk to you guys in a bit.
We are here at the VIP lounge.
Very nice lounge.
So there's a lot of food out there.
They even give us a VIP room.
Like a little nice private area.
So this is a very good time for me to actually
sort of like collect my thoughts.
And give you guys a proper outro.
And give you guys the giveaway.
A pair of premium economy tickets.
Very simple ah.
Okay, go to my IG.
The IG post is already up.
Comment down there,
which ally did we take for this entire Taiwan experience.
This trip has been exceptional okay.
I really get to experience Taiwan.
Not just on a superficial level.
But really go a bit deeper.
Not just as a competitive eater.
People always see me,
I come here and do food challenges.
I'm actually filming video.
